Ashley’s POV

I was still watching the game when I heard the sound of snow crunching as someone approached me. I just figured it was one of the parents coming to get their kid and bring them home for dinner. When they were standing next to the bench they stopped and kept their eyes on the ice before they turned to take a seat on the bench besides me, “Would it be alright if I sat here?”I instantly recognized the voice and looked up stunned. His eyes widened when he saw me. “Ash? Oh my God I’ve missed you so much! What are you doing here!?” he asked as I enveloped him in a massive hug.

“I went for a bit of a little drive and ended up here.” I shrugged as we sat back down on the bench.

“Just went for a little drive? I heard you’re living in Boston and last I checked a seven hour drive is not ‘little’.”

“I just kept driving, I left this morning. I didn’t even realize that I had been driving for that long. It’s really no big deal.”

“Ashley. I know you better than that. Of course it’s a big deal. What the hell happened? What were you running away from?”

“Jake. Can we talk about this later and just catch up right now?” I pleaded with my old friend.

“We will talk about it though.” He said matter-of-factly. I simply nodded before changing the subject.

“So what brings you here?”

“Well I came to pick up my younger brother. He’s really becoming a great player; he plays right wing and sometimes center. He’s got a wicked slap shot.” Jake was talking and watching the game with intensity. I nodded numbly and waited for him to keep talking, “He suffered a pretty bad blow to the head last year and we were hesitant on letting him play this year. It’s just hard to take the hockey out of someone, no matter how brutal the hit.” I was starting to feel sick to my stomach and just sat motionlessly staring at the ground. Jake was still watching the game when he started talking again, “I mean I’ve seen some pretty bad hits in all my years of watching hockey, but one thing’s for certain, the player always comes back and if they can’t play they watch.” I stood up abruptly and started back towards my car. Jake got up and ran after me, “Ash. Oh my god Ashley I am so sorry I know you’re sensitive to the topic. I am so sorry.”

I turned around and faced him while I held my car door open, “Jake it’s not your fault. I just need to get back home. I have classes in the morning. I’ll text you sometime.” I got into my car and pulled out of the spot and raced off, leaving Jake standing there looking on.

Tyler’s POV

I had called Freddy and some of the guys and they all came to Ashley’s apartment. We were all sitting in her living room as I filled them in on the what had happened. Trisha had finally stopped crying and was currently checking the school campus for Ashley or anyone who might have seen her.

“Segs, what if she actually left town?” I looked at Andrew like he was crazy for suggesting it even though I knew by now that she would be well beyond Boston’s borders. Nevertheless, I found myself replying, “Well someone might have seen where she went. Plus come on, Ashley gets lost so easily she probably can’t even find her way out of the city.”

Freddy looked at me concerned before speaking up, “I’ll head out of town and drive north for a while then I’ll turn around.” He got up and grabbed his keys and walked out.

“I call airport!” Brad yelled jumping up and heading out the door.

“I’ll start checking hotels.” Milan said as he walked out.

“I’ll hit the bay and water fronts.” said Zee.

“That leaves you and me to take south and west, Kid.” said Andrew looking at me.

“I sighed and said, I’ll go south, you take west.” He nodded and the three of us locked her apartment and went down to our waiting cars.

By the time I pulled back into her apartment I noticed everyone except for Freddy had returned. I went up the stairs and opened the door to the four boys and Trisha sitting there all frowning. All their heads snapped up at the sound of my entrance.

“I’ll take it no one found her or any clues as to where she might have gone?” I sighed as I sat down.

“Ty, you guys should really all just head home. I’m going to stay here until she gets back. Okay?” Trisha looked at me with sad eyes.

“Trish-“ she cut me off before I could even figure out what I was going to say next.

“Look, Tyler, I think it’s sweet that you are this concerned and I think it says a lot about all of you that you guys just spent your whole day looking for her but honestly when she gets back she probably doesn’t want to see you. At least not right away. Just give her some space and time. She will be back and when she does come I’ll try to get her to talk to you as soon as possible but no promises on it being right away. I’ll text you when she returns but only if you promise not to come here when I text you.”

I looked up at Trisha in shock before looking at the guys and seeing their faces and knowing I had to get my game together and focus on our home game that was coming up I knew Trisha was right, “all right then, I promise.”

She looked relieved as her stiff and stern posture melted, “Good.”

We got up and said good night to Trisha and walked out of the apartment. I thanked the guys again when we got down to our cars and then they all headed off. Just as I was starting my car Freddy pulled up beside me and rolled down his window. I rolled down mine and told him what had just been decided. He nodded and rolled his window back up before turning around and heading off in the direction of our apartment. I sat there watching him go for a minute before looking down and seeing my knuckles were white. Realizing I had been gripping the steering wheel in a death grip I put the car in drive and took off down the road after Freddy.
