Ashley’s POV
Tyler and I had been dating exclusively for a little over a month now and everything was going just great. He got along fantastic with all of my friends and I got along just as well with all of his. The only thing that bothered me was all the business trips he had to go on. They were too frequent and he kept repeating cities he had already gone too. We were lounging in his and Freddy’s apartment, just laying on the couch wrapped up in each other watching the first Harry Potter movie.
“Hey Ash?” he asked a bit nervously.
“Yeah babe?” I looked up at him. he bit his lip anxiously before continuing.
“I have another business trip to New York in a couple days and then two weeks from now my family is coming down for a visit so I was wondering if you would meet my family?”
“Yeah I would love to meet your family. Now about this business trip, how many business trips are you going to go on this year? You know the normal business trip is about a week and they usually don’t include weekends and they aren’t frequent visits to the same places. You’ve been to New York/New Jersey how many times since we started dating?” I sat up and pulled away from him as I said it. He sat up quickly and reached out to try to calm me down, “Ash, the other office is in New York and there is a tiny officew in New Jersey and I don’t get a choice as to where I go and when or for how long because I don’t have a high position so its either fly or get fired. Trust me, if I could keep my job and not have to leave Boston, I would.”
I sighed and collapsed into his arms and we sat there for a little while until my phone rang. I looked down at it and read the reminder I had set earlier this morning. I looked up at Tyler, “I have to go to work now.”He pulled me in for a lingering kiss before pulling back slightly and saying, “ok but everything’s alright between us?” I nodded and he gave me another kiss, “I love you babe, I’ll see you after work.” “I love you too, Tyler.” And with that I left his apartment and headed down to my car and off to Maggie’s.
Tyler’s POV
“ I love you too, Tyler.” And with that she closed the door to my apartment. I sighed and threw myself back on the sofa rubbing my fists into my face frustrated. A few minutes later Freddy walked in and saw me laying there. “Ummm what happened?” he asked nervously. I sat up lowly and leaned my head in my hands and my elbows propped up on my knees. I turned my face to look at him before turning it back into my hands as I replied, “I don’t know how much longer I can keep this up man. I have no clue what is going on in her head about the whole situation but I have a feeling it’s not good.”
He sat down next to me and put a hand reassuringly on my shoulder, “this is about the road trip well “business trip” isn’t it?” I nodded, “I’ll take it that she was not to happy that you had to leave again?” I nodded again, “how did your conversation end?”
“ I love you” I mumbled.
“Was that said by her or you?” he prodded.
“Both. What are you getting at?” I said getting a little impatient.
He stood up and looked down at me, “Look, just consider yourself lucky that she said it before she left because she could have just stormed out of here and slammed the door behind her. And that would have been sudden death territory. Right now you’re just in caution territory with a blinking yellow light but be careful not to push or you’ll get a red flashing light, sirens, and a whole lot of hell.” He turned and went upstairs to his room. I sighed knowing he was right. I ran a hand through my hair and leaned back before getting up and getting ready for tonight’s home game.
Ashley’s POV
I got to work and went to the back and threw myself into one of the chairs. I looked around and saw Clarissa looking at me sympathetically before I noticed Trish was also here and looking at me rather sympathetically as well. “Trouble in paradise?” she asked.
“He is going on another business trip to New York!”
“Didn’t he just get back from one to Montreal?” inquired Clarissa.
“Yeah and he came back with a black eye! He told me he met up with some old friends while he was there and that they just got a bit too rough with each other. Which I don’t know if I can believe that because it looked pretty bad today still, but at the same time I’ve seen him and Freddy get pretty rough so part of me can believe it.” I yelled exasperatedly.
They looked at each other before looking back at me. Trisha spoke up first, “What are you going to do?”
“I don’t know what I am going to do.” I sighed and ran my hands through my hair pulling at the knots and fluffing it up a bit in a lame attempt to add a bit of volume.
“Do you think he is in a gang or something?” inquired Clarissa “Or maybe he’s a drug dealer.” added Trisha. Both girls looked at me expectantly. I sighed and when I responded I could hear my voice waver and crack,
“I think he’s cheating on me.”
