Opposites Attract
Fall For You
A huge smile spread across Katie's face. "Yes, I do. And I remembered that I said I'd score a goal on you."
"We'll see about that, sweets," he said, winking as he reached for his pads and mask. He had them on in a minute as Katie got her stick. "Don't I need skates?", she asked.
"Yeah, I got that covered." He handed her a pair of skates.
"How do you know my size?"
"I asked Cara your shoe size and went from there."
Katie smiled. He really put a lot of thought into this.
She laced up the skates. "God, this is weird. I haven't skated in forever," she said. She skated up to center ice and soon was ready to go.
"Aren't you going to put on skates?" She asked Tuukka as he walked over to the goal.
"I don't think I'll need 'em," he smirked, taunting Katie.
"Wow, okay. I see how it is."
Tuukka knelt down in the goal and was ready. "Ready when you are, toots. Remember, this is my job."
Katie just smiled and shook her head. She skated around with the puck for a minute, getting closer to Tuukka but going in circles nochalantly.
"Anyday n--"
Right as Tuukka began to say "now", Katie's wrist flicked and the puck flew from the ice right to the top right shelf.
Ding!
Tuukka pulled off his mask and just stood there for a minute, looking at the puck that was now inside of the net.
Katie was happy with herself, but instantly felt bad. Tuukka was a guy, and guys have their egos. Even though Tuukka wasn't an asshole about it, he did have enough self confidence to think that a girl couldn't beat him. This couldn't have happened at a worse time... in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He's probably embarrassed, oh god. What have I done? I should've shot at his chest.
Katie glided over to Tuukka, who was just standing there, refusing to look at her.
"Tuukka..."
"What?" He snapped.
Katie didn't know what to say. "I-- You weren't ready--"
"Yes I was. I was ready. I can't fucking believe this. I'm an NHL goalie and I can't save a fucking wrist shot from a girl who hasn't played in forever? Jesus Christ."
"I'm sorry.."
"Please don't apologize. Save it."
Tuukka skated away, leaving Katie standing there.
Once he was a few feet away from the bench, he turned around to see if she was coming. He'd planned to invite her back to his place for dinner, but he didn't really want to be with her right now. He was too embarrassed.
He forced himself to look at her face and then he immediately regretted what he had said. She was standing there, looking at the ice, thinking about what he'd said.
"No-- Katie, I didn't mean it like--"
"No, you did."
"It came out the wrong way. I didn't mean it like that!"
Katie just nodded, looked at the ground, and bit her bottom lip. He skated over to her and put his hands on her shoulders.
"Katie. Please look at me. If anybody here should be embarrassed, it's me, for what I said. That was a good shot and it deserved to be a goal. I know if I could've saved a shot like that, and I wouldn't have been able to. Please look at me. I'm sorry. I'm an asshole. I'm a jerk. Okay?"
Katie looked at him. His eyes had a pleading look on them and his hair was a bit disheveled from his mask. He had a bit of stubble from the playoff beard he was beginning to grow.
She nodded.
"Well... I guess I owe you 50 bucks."
She shook her head. "I don't really care about that. You've brought me out on a bunch of dates, it's alright."
"A deal's a deal. I'm a man of my word."
Such a gentleman.
Without thinking, she leaned in and kissed him. He immediately began to kiss back, putting his hands on her ass. She draped her hands around his neck and he kissed her forcefully. Their bodies fit together perfectly and Katie felt a mix of emotions as she kissed him: lust, anger, happiness, confusion, shock, everything. But the one emotion that powered over all others was just pure happiness to be here with him.
Tuukka put his equipment back in the locker room and showed her the way he leaves after a game. They got into his car.
"Wanna go back to my place? We can make dinner."
"That sounds good."
Tuukka smiled and began to drive with his left hand, leaving his right hand on the arm rest. Katie laid hers down next to his and put her hand in his. He looked at their hands, smiled and kept driving home to his place.
He pressed a button near the roof of his car and a garage opened. He parked his car in a parking space near a door, then got out and opened the door for Katie.
Once she was out he opened the door with a key to a room with an elevator. He pressed the button and the elevator opened. They walked inside and the doors closed as Tuukka pressed a bright button with the number 7 on it.
"Smells like Indian food," Katie commented.
"Yeah, there are these people who always spill their shit in here, guess it was Indian food today," he said, chuckling.
The doors opened to a pale hallway with a blue floor and one door. Tuukka simply said, "penthouse". Katie nodded and they walked down the hallway to his apartment.
Tuukka had woken up at 9:30 this morning, with only 6 hours of sleep, just to clean his apartment and prepare it for Katie. He even went to the grocery store and bought food so they could make dinner together. He'd also gotten a few movies.
They reached the door and Tuukka stuck a key in the lock and turned it. He opened the door for Katie and she walked through into his apartment.
"Jesus, Tuukka. This is huge," she muttered as Tuukka shut the door and walked up next to her.
She walked to his living room. His apartment layout was actually a lot like hers, except his was much bigger and had a patio.
The kitchen was off to the left as Katie walked in. There was a kitchen island, like hers, except it had a stove top as well. In the kitchen you could view the living room, they were basically one huge room. The living room had a big flat-screen tv and 3 couches with matching bookshelves and a few paintings on the wall. A door from the living room went out to the patio, another went to his room and another to the master bathroom. Katie walked out to the patio, which also had a hot tub.
She put her hands on the rail and looked at the distance. Tuukka walked up and crossed his arms around her waist, taking in her vanilla scent.
"Beautiful," she gawked.
"You're right," he uttered, looking solely at her.
There were 3 different pots on the stove top and they were all close to boiling over.
"Tuukka! Come on! We need to figure this out!" Katie yelled, putting her hands on her forehead before looking at the cook book for the 45th time.
"This was such a bad idea," Tuukka said in between laughs. He couldn't help laughing at how bad they were at cooking. He'd thought that pasta with pesto and green beans and a side of white rice wouldn't be that hard to make, especially with Katie helping him... but boy, he was wrong.
"I made sure to get all the ingredients! How long do green beans take? Did you grind up all the stuff for the sauce so I can add the olive oil?" He asked, flustered.
"Yes I did! And I don't know, do you think they're done by now? When did we start? Did we put them in when it was boiling?"
"I'm going to make the sauce. I don't know, the recipe says 5 minutes... did we overcook? I don't know! Jesus! I'm a hockey player I'm not built for this shit!"
"I think it's been like 8 minutes... I'm gonna strain them. Wait no! I have to add the pasta with the green beans? Or in the left over green-beany water? AAAAGHHHH"
Katie and Tuukka both let out groans but couldn't stop laughing. The ingredients to their dinner were the only things in the room that were suffering.
Katie put the pasta in for 4 minutes then strained everything and poured the green beans and pasta into two white bowls. Tuukka poured an even amount of sauce over both bowls, then they drained the rice and put that on a big plate to split between the two of them.
He brought the bowls over to the coffee table in the living room while Katie began to put the pots in the sink. He then ran to the fridge and grabbed two beers, forks, and the plate of rice. Katie finished putting the dirty dishes in the sink and sat on the couch next to Tuukka.
"So, what are we watching as we eat this masterpiece, here?"
"I got something special," he said as he smiled. Tuukka pressed play on one of the remotes and the beginning of Goodfellas began.
Katie squealed and grabbed her bowl of pasta. She laid her legs across his waist and leaned her head against his shoulder. They watched Goodfellas as they ate their dinner.
An hour into the movie, Katie got up and got 2 more beers from the fridge for her and Tuukka. The rice had made her thirsty. Tuukka smiled and took the beer and pecked her lips before turning back to the movie which, surprisingly, was very good.
Katie was buzzed after her third beer, but Tuukka was fine. He didn't want to drink too much because he had to be up early for practice before the game tomorrow, so he only had 2 beers. She was much smaller than Tuukka so the alcohol had a different effect on Katie than it did on him. He wasn't 100% sober, either, but he was more sober than she was.
Once the movie was over, Katie was feeling happy and elated. She was a bit drunk and she stood up. She turned the tv to those music channel nobody really ever uses. The song "Fall For You" came on and she jumped up.
"Tuukka! I know this one! I know this! Do you know this one!?"
Tuukka laughed at how cute she was before saying, "No, I don't."
She began to sing the chorus, "Because tonight will be the night that I will fall for you, over agaiiiin, don't make me change my miiiiiiiiiind, or I won't live to see another day, I swear it's true! Because a girl like you is impossible to finnnd, you're impossible to finnddd!!" she sang, spinning around before jumping on top of Tuukka. "I looooooove that song!"
"Yeah, me too. I can relate to those lyrics..."
Tuukka began to kiss her and she kissed him right back. His tongue explored her mouth and she loved every bit of it. He picked her up, her legs wrapped around his waist, still kissing him, and walked to his bedroom. He laid her down on the bed.
He lifted up the covers and she crawled in. He put the covers back over her.
"You need to sleep... and I do too. I'll go on the couch--"
"Tuukka."
"We both need sleep. And, you're drunk. I'm not going to take advantage of that. When you're ready, and when we're both sober.. maybe then. But for right now... I'll see you in the morning. Night, sweets."
Tuukka shut the bedroom door then laid down on the couch and shut off the tv.
"We'll see about that, sweets," he said, winking as he reached for his pads and mask. He had them on in a minute as Katie got her stick. "Don't I need skates?", she asked.
