I Just Want You To Be Happy
Zoe had been anxiously awaiting game time since Tyler and Brad had left for practice before the game. This would be the first time she has seen Patrick since walking out his door and never going back. She was scared. Nervous. Anxious. She didn't know what she would do when she saw him. Instantly fall back in love with him or punch him in the face. Or maybe a happy medium, a quick wave hello before walking out the door with Tyler.
Tyler.
What would Patrick do when he sees Zoe on the Bruins side right behind the glass. He know that something was going on between Zoe and Tyler. More than just "something" actually. They weren't dating yet, since Zoe kiboshed that. She didn't know him well enough to date him just yet. They had a thing? But in NHL having a thing with one of the players, especially Tyler Seguin, didn't mean much. She knew she liked him and she knew he liked her they were just friends right now. Friends with feelings. It was complicated. And if Patrick asked Zoe would just say it was none of his business. But then Zoe would be mad at herself for being rude to Patrick. He had only ever been nice to her, except for the whole cheating scandal but she had long since moved on from that. She had forgiven him in her head when she kissed Tyler that night many days ago, she just hadn't told him and probably never would.
Zoe was broken from her thoughts when Michaela opened the door to her room and asked the all important question, "Are you gonna wear a Bruins jersey tonight?"
Zoe stopped dead in her tracks. She had no idea if she was going to wear a Bruins jersey or a Blackhawks jersey. She hadn't even thought about it because she always supported her home team but now with Tyler thrown into the mix she didn't want to hurt his feelings. Wait, who was she kidding? Tyler Seguin was a grown man who wouldn't care if Zoe wore a Bruins jersey or not. And he got upset by her wearing a Blackhawks jersey she could just promise him multiple make outs to make up for it. It was a win win for both of them.
"I'm going to wear a Blackhawks jersey," Zoe said before reaching into her closet to grab one of the many Blackhawks apparel Patrick had given her. She didn't want to wear anything with Kane on the back. That would look bad. So she opted out for a Shaw jersey. Patrick had not given her that, Andrew had as an "early gift for when they dated in the future." If she happened to see Shaw after the game he would be proud she was wearing the early anniversary gift.
Z oe chuckled to herself. She missed the Blackhawks team. She spent almost everyday with them when her and Patrick were dating and now she hadn't seen them in almost a year. They were so inviting and they welcomed her with open arms to their “family.”
And family she would always be to them.
------
The Bruins were silent in the locker room. The Blackhawks had beaten them in the Stanley Cup last year so this game was very personal to them. The only sound was the taping of sticks and the tying of laces. The Bruins were determined and if that wasn't enough they were angry. And whenever the Bruins players were angry they got the job done.
-----
In the Blackhawks locker room they were having conversations. They weren't nervous for the game. The Bruins were good yes but the Blackhawks were better. They could skate faster, pass better, and had good sportsmanship. Plus, they hated the Bruins so that fueled the fire.
Patrick, since knowing Zoe would be at the game, had lots of pressure on him. He wanted to show her what she was missing. And boy was she missing a lot. Patrick was the lead scorer,by a lot, on the Blackhawks and the season started just two months ago. He had been trying harder than ever just incase Zoe decided to come to a game. She never did. But that only made Patrick work harder.
Now that they were playing the Bruins, Patrick hoped they would come out with a win so Zoe would see that Patrick was far better than Tyler. In some ways he was but in others he wasn't.
------
Zoe had been shaking her leg and covering her eyes the entire game. It was tied three-three with seven minutes left in the third period. She was nervous. She could tell the tension on the ice between Patrick and Tyler. She knew Patrick knew her and Tyler were involved. Tyler made sure he knew before the game started too.
Tyler, before the game starting puck drop, skated over to Zoe and made sure Patrick saw them talking and smiling and blushing. Along with the rest of the United Center, they saw Tyler ask Zoe to be his girlfriend before skating to his position to start the game. Zoe didn't get to give him an answer before the puck dropped, but she saw Patrick staring wide eyed at her as if to ask "what is your answer going to be?"
He wanted it to be no.
She was going to say yes.
Tyler would be ecstatic, even though they don't know each other as well as he, and she, hoped but he didn't want to give any other guy the chance to snatch her up. He knew that every other guy in the league was looking at her wondering if they could score her. They could. But she was now Tyler Seguins. And he knew it too, so when Brad passed the puck to him and skated faster than light down the ice it was all so he could kiss his new girlfriend. And when he shot the puck into the back of the Blackhawks neck the only thing he did was look at Zoe.
He had won the game.
The Bruins had beaten the Blackhawks.
------
Zoe had been thinking about the question the entire game. She was obviously going to say yes but she couldn't forgot Patricks face when he saw Tyler ask the question. She wanted to talk to him and just ask him about it, but then she might look like she still liked him. She did. But it was one of those "I won't get over you because we never really ended" thing. She had tried and tried again and Tyler knew she still had some feelings for Patrick but he knew that was normal.
"So what's your answer?"
Zoe turned around to a smiling Tyler. She grabbed his head in her hands and kissed him.
"I'm going to take that as a yes." Zoe just laughed before nodding her head. She stepped back from him and realized that they had a crowd. A crowd of Bruins, and Blackhawks watching them. Zoe looked at Tyler's suit.
"How did you already shower and change?" Zoe asked surprised that all the players around them were showered and gussied up too. Tyler just laughed at how spaced out Zoe had been.
"You were standing there and thinking for like thirty minutes," Tyler said, wondering to himself what she could be thinking about. Zoe just shook her head not knowing she was awkwardly standing there spaced out probably looking like she was staring at some guys dick. That always happened to her. Tyler just smiled at her before kissing her on the cheek and pulling her into a hug. That was when she saw him.
Patrick was standing there, looking a tad bit upset that Zoe was in the arms of another man. She let go of Tyler and he released her from his grasp. He turned around to where she was looking and saw him too.
"You should go talk to him." Tyler said no matter how much it hurt him to say it. They needed to hash everything out whether he liked it or not. Zoe just looked at Tyler surprisingly but before she could speak he was pushing her towards Patrick. Everybody was looking at her. It was like she was an animal on display at the zoo.
Zoe walked closer to Patrick and she could see the regret in his eyes. He regretted getting drunk and making mistakes that had ruined his life. Zoe should be hugging him and kissing him.
"So Seguin?" Patrick said trying to cry in front of her.
Zoe just nodded her head before saying, "ya i guess." Patrick looked down at his feet knowing that everybody was watching their every move. He wanted to talk to her alone and explain how sorry he was but he would never get that anytime soon.
The only thing he wanted to say was the next thing that came out of his mouth, "I just want you to be happy Zoe. After everything that I did to you, thats the least you deserve. I'm sorry Zoe, for everything." With that Patrick walked away from the love of his life.
And Zoe was left standing there wondering about what her heart was thinking.
Is Patrick the one for her, or was Tyler..
Tyler.
