Won't Go Home Without You

Patrick had been looking towards Zoe the whole entire game. She had noticed, but decided to not think anything about it. In reality though, Patrick looked at her as if she was his good luck charm. She was.

The Blackhawks were playing the Kings and were tied 1-1. Patrick had the puck and was skating down the ice. He looked towards where Zoe was sitting. She had her hands crossed together, like she was holding hands with some, and she had them pressed to her mouth. That was all he needed. He pulled his stick to make the shot and poof. There it went. Into the back of the neck. The buzzer went off and there Patrick was standing. At the end of the third period. Blackhawks 2, Kings 1. Patrick had won the game for his team.

While being dog piled by his team, Patrick looked up from the ice to Zoe. There she was smiling. Her hands still crossed together and near her mouth. She was trying so hard not to jump and scream but she knew just smiling would do the trick. Patrick just wanted to hug her and kiss her and thank her for helping him score the goal. Most importantly, he just wanted to kiss her.

-------

"That game was amazing," Zoe yelled in Patricks ear at the club.

"So are you finally over the Bruins?" Patrick hoped she would say yes and then fall into his arms.

Her answer wasn't what he expected, "You'll have to wait and see."

Some guys were at the bar, some dancing, and the rest sitting in the VIP room. Zoe was near Patrick the whole night. She didn't want her to leave his side and he wouldn't let her. She got looks from puck bunnies, but they all stayed away knowing Patrick never brought girls. He just left with them. They had drinks, the danced, and they talked. But the whole night their lips hovered over each other. Tempting. Seducing. Loving.

The guys knew Zoe would go home with Patrick. Girls always did. They had money on if she would go home with him. Only two teammates thought she wouldn't go home with him. They were right. Zoe was breaking her rule. She doesn't date hockey players and she doesn't sleep with hockey players. The only exception to her rule was if they fought. Fought to keep her in his life. Patrick would and she knew that but he was also a troublemaker.

Zoe grabbed Michaela and Andrea and left Patricks side. Immediately, Patrick felt empty. Zoe felt the same. They were making their way out of the club. Keith and Shaw made a hundred bucks from each teammate. Patrick looked over at Zoe longing to run after her, but he knew he would look desperate to the team. Zoe looked back at Patrick, hoping he would come back to her and say "I won't go home without you. I need you. Not just as a one night stand but forever." But he was "Patrick Kane" the ladies man. Why did she get involved with a hockey player again. Zoe only wanted their lips to touch. She could feel sparks from miles away.

Patrick didn't know what he was doing, but suddenly he felt hands pushing him towards the doors that Zoe was walking. He started walking. His teammates stayed behind, giving him some privacy. Patrick walked faster an faster until he was just short of running. He reached the doors and pushed them open to find Zoe standing there alone. Patrick guessed her friends went to find where they parked their car since they didn't want to use the valet. He walked up behind Zoe and put one arm around her waist. She shivered.

"Patrick I," Zoe said stepping away from Patrick.

"Zoe I get it. I just didn't want you to leave without knowing you weren't going to be a one night stand," Patrick said putting his hands on Zoe's waist before pulling her close to him. Once again their lips hovered over each other once more before Patrick closed the space between them. Fireworks went boom, people shouted, and most importantly Zoe kissed back. She wrapped her arms around his neck and played with his hair. He shivered before pulling Zoe even closer. They both felt as if this was the only thing going on around them, but they were quickly pulled out of their daydream when Michaela honked her horn at Zoe. They pulled away.

Zoe looked as though her world had just come crashing down. Patrick was worried. She should look happy right? Zoe started to walk away but Patrick grabbed her wrist and gently turned her towards him. She wouldn't look him in the eye. He let her go. Zoe walked to the car. Patrick hoped that she would turn around and smile or at least just stop and think about what had just happened. She didn't.

----------

Zoe awoke to Michaela, Andrea and Ryan standing about her, staring.

"What the hell?" Zoe said before realizing her head was pounding. She couldn't remember anything that had happened last night. Anything. She looked back up at her friends and rolled over. Only seconds after that did Michaela and Andrea roll her back over to face them, "What do you want?"

"You don't remember anything that happened last night did you?" Michaela said before crossing her arms over her chest.

"No I don't. Why?" Zoe said now wondering what she had done. Andrea and Michaela looked at each other before smirking at Zoe.

"You kissed Patrick," Andrea said before leaning into Ryan. Zoe looked at her confused before her words finally processed through her hungover brain. She didn't remember having that many drinks, but apparently she had. Zoe looked at Andrea and Michaela one more time before putting a hand over her mouth.

"What did I do after?" Zoe asked hoping she hadn't ran away.

"You ran away."

Zoe looked down at her hands laying in her lap before realizing she had to explain herself. She would never of gone home with Patrick but at least he deserves an explanation as to why she wasn't happy about kissing him.

"I have to talk to him," Zoe said before getting up and out of her bed. She walked out of her room and could hear Andrea and Michaela giving each other high fives before she walked into the bathroom. Zoe showered, threw on some clothes, and grabbed some breakfast. She was halfway out the door before she realized that she had no clue where Patrick lived.

Well Shit.

Andrea and Michaela walked out of Zoe's room and instantly knew what was wrong.

"Lets go to the United Center," Michaela said before adding, "Maybe someone will be there or maybe they're practicing." Zoe nodded her head before Michaela grabbed her keys and walked out the door with Zoe, Andrea and Ryan in tow.

-------

Patrick was skating around at the United Center before practice officially started. Jonathan skated over towards Patrick and put a hand on his shoulder. He knew. Everybody knew that Zoe had just left Patrick standing there after a heart stopping kiss.

"She's here," Jonathan said. Patrick turned around to look at Toews before he spotted Zoe walking out on the ice. He looked away from her. He couldn't even bear to look her in the eyes. Zoe looked down. Upset that she had just left him standing there after their kiss. She loved it. She loved the way her lips felt on his.

Zoe walked over to where Patrick was standing. Desperate. Broken. Alone. She looked at him before looking down at the ice. Patrick took off his gloves and put his hand on her chin, lifting her head up to look at him. They both had the same type of gloss over their eyes. They were pleading eyes.

"I'm sorry," Zoe said before looking down at the ice again.

"You don't need to apologize Zoe. It's fine," Patrick said, whispering. He didn't want her to hear the hurt in his voice.

"Patrick I need to tell you something," Zoe said still looking down at the ice. Patrick bent down to look in her eyes. She wouldn't meet them. By now the rest of the team was getting on the ice for practice. Zoe knew she had to get off the ice but as long as Patrick didn't tell her to, she wouldn't.

Patrick looked at Jonathan as if to ask if he could talk to Zoe before practice. Jonathan nodded his head knowing if Patty didn't he wouldn't have his head in the game. Patrick grabbed Zoe's hand before bringing her off the ice and into the hallway before the locker room. He stared at her, ready for what she needed to tell him.

Zoe started, "My ex, actually all my exes, were hockey players and since I call them my exes you can figure out that it never worked out with me and them. I tried. I really did. I wanted things to work with all of them, but hockey was the only thing that mattered to them. I know you said I wasn't going to be a one night stand but we both know I wasn't going to be a long time thing." Patrick cut her off.

"We don't know that. You've already given up before things could start," Patrick said. His eyes glossing over, about to let some tears fall, "I really like you Zoe."

"I've broken my heart so many times that it doesn't even feel like a heart anymore," Zoe said letting the tears fall. Patrick wiped them with his thumb before stroking her cheek, "I can't break it anymore. I can't be with you."

"I won't hurt you Zoe. I wouldn't hurt you," Patrick said. Now letting the tears fall freely. Zoe just closed her eyes and thought about her past. She couldn't put herself through all that again. She opened her eyes, grabbed Patricks hands and kissed them.

Zoe got up and walked away, turning around one last time before opening the doors to the locker room where she would exit. Patrick was looking at her, broken hearted.

Zoe left him. Desolate and all alone.
