Zoe had been asleep throughout the entire flight. She hated airplanes and the only thing that kept her from vomiting throughout the cabin was sleeping. Patricks lap was comfortable which made things even better. He stroked her hair and whispered I love you into her ear every so often. Nobody made her feel the way Patrick did.

Patrick was nervous about meeting Zoe's family. They had been dating a year but Zoe didn't keep in touch with her parents. He knew that things wouldn't be about him and Zoe but about Zoe's dad. Patrick would be there to hold her hand and keep her head up because the past week had been awful for her.

Zoe had to figure out the funeral plans since her mom was too upset and couldn't bear the thought of living without her husband by her side. Michaela was flying out the next day with Andrea since someone had to take Zoe's shift at the bar. Jake had given her time off but she needed the money.

Once the captain had turned off the seatbelt sign Patrick and Zoe grabbed their bags and hurried off the plane to avoid Bruins fans. This was their territory and they both knew it. Zoe had turned her backs on the Bruins and she had a good reason to but she still felt bad.

Patrick hadn't worn any Blackhawks apparel for fear of Bruins fans. Ironically the Hawks would be playing the Bruins the day after the funeral. The rest of the team was flying out for the funeral with Michaela and Andrea since Zoe had become part of the Blackhawks family.

-----

Zoes brother was waiting outside the airport in his Bruins hat. He was excited to see Zoe but didn't love the events that had brought them together.

"Hey stranger."

Dylan turned around and was face to face with the person he loved most in the world. His sister.
He enveloped her in a hug that left them both breathless from squeezing so tight. Zoe had tears slipping down her face but she quickly wiped them away. She was strong. One of the strongest people both Dylan and Patrick knew. Zoe didn't want anyone seeing her cry. Not even her brother.

"Long time no see," Dylan said wrapping an arm around Zoe's waist. Zoe just smiled her smile that said she agreed with the statement said.

Dylan hugged her once more before extending his hand out and looking at Patrick and saying, "So you're the guy that made Zoe stay in Chicago eh?"

Patrick just looked at Zoe confused at the question before saying, "I guess so."

Dylan just laughed and shook Patrick hand before slapping him on the back and saying, "Welcome to the family."

-----

The car ride from the airport wasn't terribly long but the silence that was soon to come was being dreaded by Zoe. Her mom would probably do her annual speech talking about how big of a mistake it was that Zoe went to school in Chicago and that she needed to come home. Except now Zoe's mom actually had a reason to make her come home. She needed Zoe. Zoe and Dylan were all she had left.

Zoe looked out the car window before feeling Patrick grab her hand. His hand was warm. She loved it. Zoe just smiled to herself and took in how lucky she was to have found Patrick and how lucky she was that he loved her. With all his heart, he did.

The driveway to Zoes house was filled with cars. Family members bringing over food and apologies on the loss of the beloved David Martin. Even though he wasn't the best father, he was an amazing person. The cars and people at the house proved it. Zoe and Dylan loved their dad at person, just not as a father.

Zoes mom was greeting people in the front yard when Zoe, Dylan and Patrick showed up. Zoe was nervous to see her mom and Patrick could feel it. To break the ice he got out first and opened up Zoe's door.

"And who said chivalry was dead?" a family member passing by said. Zoe's mom just raised an eyebrow at the sight of Patrick Kane opening her daughters door. Carol excused herself from the conversation she was in before walking over to the car.

The second Zoe stepped out of the car she was asked questions as to why Patrick Kane was opening her door. She just moved them out of the way to get to her mom standing outside of the little group that had formed around her. The second Carol and Zoe's eyes met they both let tears slide down their faces. Carol just wanted to apologize for not being there for her daughter but it would take more than an apology to satisfy Zoe and Carol knew that.

They hugged and Zoe introduced Carol to Patrick. Carol was impressed that Zoe had scored a professional hockey player, but Patrick had lots to prove. Carol may have driven Zoe away but Carol wanted the best for her daughter.

Patrick was the best for her daughter.

------

The funeral had come and gone and it was the day of the Bruins and Blackhawks game. Zoe was nervous. She had glass seats on the Bruins side since her father was a big funder to the Bruins. She wanted the Blackhawks to win but she was pressing her luck. The Bruins were on fire tonight and nothing was going to get in their way. They would win.

Patrick threw his stick to the ice when the final buzzer went off. He looked over at Zoe but her attention wasn't on him. Whenever the Blackhawks lost he would look over at Zoe and she would smile her "it will be okay" smile and he automatically feel better but she wasn't looking at him. She was looking at Tyler Seguin.

Patrick just skated off the ice defeated. He had lost the game and his girlfriend was ogling over Tyler Seguin. Just his luck.

-----

Zoe was staring at Tyler Seguin when the final buzzer went off. He was breathtaking and Zoe would never admit this to Patrick but she always had a huge crush on him. And he was staring back at Zoe which made everything better.

Zoe saw Patrick skate off the ice with his head hanging low. She immediately popped the Tyler Seguin bubble and got off her chair to head to the visitors locker room.

-----

Tyler skated off the ice after watching the girl of his dreams get out of her seat and rush out of the arena. He wanted to see her again but the chances were slim to none since people were starting to get out of their seats. He walked to the locker room to take off his equipment before rushing around the arena to find her.

He did.

------

Zoe was face to face with Tyler Seguin. She had been pushed by fans rushing to escape traffic and he had caught her. The moment would of been perfect if Patrick hadn't seen the whole thing.

Zoe didn't know what was going on but her love for Patrick burned when she looked at Tyler. But she didn't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing.

Patrick did. He wanted to escape the emotion he was feeling while he looked at Zoe and Tyler. He walked back to the visitors locker room leaving Zoe and Tyler behind to stare into each others eyes.
