Chalice of Kings

Chapter 2

"Jake?" I heard a knock at the door of my suite.

"Come in!" I called.

The door opened, and Shay came into the room.

"Sup?" I questioned.

"Colette and I need to go out and do a bit of shopping. Will you watch the kids for us until we get back?" He asked me.

"Of course." I replied. "When will you be back?"

"It will probably take a few hours. Is that still ok?" Shay asked.

"Sure!" I replied. "I'll be the babysitter!

Shay smiled in relief, and thanked me as he walked out of the suite to go tell the kids and Colette.

I changed into a T-shirt and shorts, and headed out to the living room, where the kids were waiting with Shay and Colette.

"And Jake has been such a nice guy, and agreed to take care of the kids while we go shopping!" Colette said enthusiastically to the camera she was vlogging with.

I smiled as I walked into the room, and sat down on the couch. Brock immediately came running over, and climbed onto my lap.

"Sorry buddy!" Colette said to him. "You're not gonna be staying with Jake and the kids. You're gonna be coming with us on our little shopping spree!"

Brock started to cry, and Colette picked him up, and carried him out of the room.

"When do you start playing on the Kings?" Avia questioned me.

"In about 5 days I go and start practicing and training, and I think our first game is in about 10 days." I replied.

"Oh." Avia said, looking dismayed. "So how long until you have to leave?"

"No honey! He's staying the whole season!" Colette explained, returning from the other room with a much calmer Brock. "He's going to live here with us while he plays hockey! He will go on road trips for a few days sometimes, but when he's in LA, he will be living here with us!"

"Oh!" Avia's face broke into a smile. "How long is the season?"

"About half a year." I told her.

She frowned again. "What's gonna happen after the season? Where will you go?"

"I'm not sure, but it's a long ways away. I have plenty of time to figure that out." I told her.

"Shay and I were talking about that yesterday, and you can stay living with us as long as you want." Colette informed me. "You can stay through the seasons, and if we move, we will make sure it's fairly close to a big city with an NHL team, so you can live with us there."

I didn't know what to say. It was a few days after meeting them, and they were already offering that?

"Wow. Thank you!" I said. It sounded lame, but it was all I could manage.

Colette didn't seem to think anything was out of the ordinary, but Avia jumped on top of me, and hugged me with joy.

I laughed, and hugged her back, wondering how my career would be affected by this new offer.

I watched the front door close, as Shay stepped out of the house, leaving me alone with the kids. Not that it was a bad thing... I loved the kids. They were awesome.

"Alright!" I said to the kids, who had gathered in the living room. "What does everyone want to do?"

"Swim!" Shouted Avia and Emmi at the same time.

I grinned. "Gavin? You good with that?"

"Yeah." He replied.

"Ok. Everyone go and get your bathing suits on! Then meet me here in the living room. Don't go in the pool before I'm there." I called as I headed to my suite to get changed.
