Love in Boston
Sunburnt
Before I knew it the game was over and we had lost. As we stood up I looked at his shoulders and upper chest were really red.
“You’re sunburnt.” I stated. He looked at his shoulders and to me with an ‘I told you so’ look.
“I told you. Looks like you’re taking care of me.” He grinned. We slowly made our way back to Nathans truck and he tossed me the keys.
“You drive. I can’t handle Boston drivers.” He laughed. I watched as he slowly got in, draping his jacket over his chest before putting on his seatbelt. I climbed in the drivers seat and had to move the seat up due to how short I was in comparison.
“Where to?” I looked over and saw Tuukka looking out at all the drunk fans that passed us, chuckling at the look on his face.
“Your place. I can lay down.” I nodded and began the trek out of the parking lot. Finally, after what seemed like forever, we were clear of the endless traffic jam and headed towards my apartment. I pulled in and we made our way inside. Nathan looked up from his spot on the couch as we walked in, his eyes widening upon seeing the beet red shoulders of Tuukka.
“What happened?” he asked. I watched as Tuukka slowly sat down on the couch, hissing in pain as the fabric rubbed against his skin.
“He got sunburnt at the game.” I said.
“Why wasn’t he wearing a shirt to protect himself? Pretty sure he had one on when he arrived here…speaking of his shirt…it’s the same one you’re wearing…where’s your shirt?”
“A drunken guy bumped his friends beer all over me and Tuukka gave me his shirt to wear. He was wearing a jacket but he would’ve gotten heat stroke had he kept his jacket on.” I shrugged.
“So a sunburn was a better option?” he asked and I merely shrugged.
“I thought so. At least this way he was able to walk out by himself and I didn’t have to carry him out.” I said. I grabbed the aloe from the bathroom and began to rub it into Tuukka’s shoulders.
“As if you would’ve been able to…” Nathan muttered. I shot him a playful glare and he stuck his tongue out.
“Some first date, huh?” Tuukka joked. Both Nathan and I laughed.
“It’ll be one to remember yeah. I had fun though.” I said. Yeah it wasn’t the smoothest of dates but I really enjoyed myself because I was with him.
“Speaking of dates! I have one tonight.” Nathan announced. We both turned to look at him, almost in shock. Nathan always had a big mouth so I’m surprised I haven’t heard about a girl before.
“Who is she?” I asked.
“Natalie Simmons. She works at the Dunkin’ Doughnuts.” I laughed.
“Nathan and Natalie. Nate and Nat…I like it. Where are you taking her?”
“Not a baseball game that’s for sure!” he laughed. Tuukka chuckled and I flipped him off making Nate laugh even louder.
“In all seriousness, probably just a movie. Get you know each other. Who knows, she could be the one.” He said.
“Or she could be a soul sucker!” I countered.
“True true. Well I must get ready for my date with the one.” He claimed before heading back to his room.
“Soul sucker!” I called out just before he shut his door.
“You really think she’s a soul sucker?” Tuukka asked.
“No, but you never know. Hey I could be a soul sucker.” He laughed again and shook his head.
“No no no. I would know by now if you were.” He said smiling at me.
“I had fun today.” I blurted out. I really meant it to.
“Please, I know it was a terrible date.” He said shaking his head.
“Well you’ll just have to do better on the next one yeah.” I grinned at him.
“You want another one? This didn’t totally scare you off?” he asked furrowing his eyebrows. I raised my eyebrows in surprise but shook my head.
“No. You were a complete gentleman when you didn’t have to be. You didn’t have to give me the shirt off your back, but you did. I feel bad because you’re sunburnt and I feel like it’s my fault.” I said.
“Yeah, but you’re here to take care of me like you promised.” He grinned.
“Well you can’t break a pinky promise. You can lose your pinky over that!”
“Ah, we wouldn’t want that now would we?” he grinned.
“No no I think we should do it again though. Maybe not a baseball game, unless it’s a night game.” I said and he nodded.
“What happens if I don’t get called up to the Bruins? What if I get traded somewhere else across the country?” he suddenly frowned.
“I have complete faith that you’ll get called to Boston permanently. If you don’t, on the offhand chance, then we’ll get to that when the time comes. I don’t want to lose you and I don’t want to think about that.” I said shaking my head. Tuukka sighed and pulled me into his lap. I gripped his hips instead of his shoulders. I leaned forward against his and his warm hands also came to rest on my hips.
“No matter what happens, you wont loose me. Yeah we went on a less than perfect date but the fact that you still want a second one makes me beyond happy. You make me happy. I’m not going to give that happiness up.” He said looking directly at me. I almost wanted to look away because I was never very good with someone staring right at me, but somehow I couldn’t. I couldn’t think of anything to say so I did the only thing I could think of, I kissed him. I leaned forward and pushed my lips on his without saying anything. It took him a second but he quickly responded, kissing back. He somehow pulled me closer as he pushed his tongue in my mouth. I held back a sound as his fingers dug lightly into my hips. Suddenly a door opened and we broke apart. I looked to see Nathan starring at us, jacket in hand, in shock.
“I leave for like 10 minutes and you’re already macking on the couch?” he grinned. I wanted to his my face in embarrassment but I had nowhere to hide since Tuukka’s shoulders weren’t an option.
“Alright well I’m heading out now. Be safe you two, take it to your room. Keep the couch clean.” He said walking out. I let out the breath I had been holding before looking back up at Tuukka.
“So…when do you want that second date?” he grinned.
