Up and Coming

Chapter 19

I reached out, and Avia and Emmi ran into my outstretched arms. I hugged them, and then chest bumped Logan.

"See you guys later!" I called, as I pulled on my LA Kings team jacket over my dress coat.

I followed one of the equipment managers out of the hotel, followed by cameras, and headed up the staircase onto the bus.

"Jakie! You're on TV!" Mike called from our seats in the middle of the bus.

I glanced at the screen at the front of the bus, and saw video footage of my boarding the bus a few seconds before.

"Jake Belanger and the Los Angeles Kings board the bus, headed to the Xcel Energy Center for tonight's game against the Minnesota Wild." The TV blared.

I grinned, and headed toward my seat.

"Sup boys?" I called. "I want to make it clear that we need to be classy out of the arena and on the bus. My billets are gonna be riding on the bus with us sometimes. The only places we don't need to be classy are on the plane, in the dressing room, and in some of your cases, on the ice."

I nudged Mike, and everyone laughed.

"Now, nobody disturb me. You touch me, you die. I'm gonna get some sleep." I announced, kicking off my dress shoes, and climbing into my sleeping compartment.

"Jake!" Mike knocked on the door to the compartment. "We gotta be awake, for training when we get to the arena!"

"Fuck off." I laughed. "I think I just broke my own rule about being classy."

"I'd say so." Mike answered.

"Jake, can I meet with you at about 11:30?" Asked John Davis, the assistant coach.

"Sure John." I replied, and opened the door to the sleeping compartment. "I guess with you guys around, I'm never gonna get my beauty rest."

I glared at Mike, and he laughed.

"Who's up for soccer at the arena?" I called.

A large group of players raised their hands, including Mike, Drew, Dustin, Anze, and Jeff Carter.

"Good." I yawned, and sat down in my seat.

"Heads!" I looked up, and saw a basketball flying at my face.

I caught the ball, and put it under my seat.

"It can wait for the arena!" I called, and Jarret Stoll groaned.

I smiled, and closed my eyes.
