Up and Coming

Chapter 25

I headed into the meeting room, and took a seat next to Mike.

"Ready Jakie?" Asked Drew, from the row of chairs behind us.

I nodded, and grinned at him.

Darryl Sutter came into the room, followed by John Stevens and Davis Payne.

"OK guys! Listen up!" He called. "We've got a strong defensive team to play against tonight, who are fresh out of the gates, so what are we doing? We're gonna up the pressure offensively. I want all of our players in on the offense tonight."

I nodded, and he continued.

"We need the center-men going straight down the ice, almost cherry picking. The wingers are gonna be right behind him, and the defensemen are going to be close to the forwards instead of staying back. They can still defend, but we want them to be in on almost all of the offensive plays too."

"What about forwards when they come into our zone, and on the penalty kill?" I called to Darryl.

"Good question. The wingers will come back to our blueline when they are in our zone with the puck, and the center-man will be at center ice. On the kill, all of the forwards can be in the zone, on defense." He replied.

I nodded, and fiddled with my tie.

"Guys, I can't stress how important our offense will be to us this season. We have so many talented forwards in this organization, we can't afford to let these years slip away from us. We need to prove to the hockey world, that we will always be a strong contender." He finished his speech, and headed to the coaches room, leaving the players to file out of the room, and go to various different activities.

I headed to my stall, and saw that Dustin was waiting for me.

"Sup Dustin?" I called to him, and he turned to talk to me.

"Hey! You got plans for lunch?" He asked me.

I shook my head.

"Wanna go for lunch together?" He asked. "Mike can come too hopefully."

"Sure!" I nodded my head.
