Up and Coming

Chapter 29

"Alright! You're done! I'll talk to Jess." Said my massage therapist, as I got up from the table.

"Thanks a lot Mark. Can I get you to work again tomorrow before we play in Winnipeg?" I said to him.

"For sure." He replied. "Just come and see me anytime."

I thanked him, and headed out of the room to wait for Jess to come and inform me if I could play or not.

I headed into the lounge, and saw Darryl waiting for me. He was sitting on a couch, and he looked concerned.

"How does it feel?" He asked me.

"Fine." I replied. "I think I should be good to play. Jess just doesn't like the way it looks, but it feels fine."

"That's gonna change." He said grimly.

I laughed, and saw the shadow of a smile cross his face.

"If you're good, you're starting." He told me, and I smiled at him.

"Thanks." I said. "I want to play as much as anyone else wants me to."

"Hey, if you're cleared to play, no words about this to anyone, except your billets and people involved with the team." He said, and I nodded. "We don't want the media catching wind of this."

The door opened, and Jess came out with a clipboard in hand, and motioned for the staff to clear the room, the last one locking the door behind him.

"OK." She said. "Jake."

I felt sick to my stomach waiting for her to drop the verdict on me.

"You're good." She said.
