Up and Coming

Chapter 9

"Jake! Jake! Wake up!" Mike was knocking on the outside of my sleeping compartment.

I groaned, and rolled over, opening the door ever so slightly, and peering out. The bus was almost empty, and I could hear the sound of things being moved around in the storage compartments below the bus.

"We're at the Xcel Energy Center." Mike told me, "Most of the boys are already in the arena."

"OK, OK, I'm coming." I muttered, sliding out of my sleeping compartment and into the aisle of the bus.

I slipped on my dress shoes, straightened my tie, and headed down the stairs at the front of the bus.

"Do we have anything to do here today?" I asked Mike.

"Nope." He replied. "We are just here to drop a bunch of our staff and equipment so that they can set it up tonight."

"While we relax." I said. "I love our staff."

Mike laughed and nodded, as I stepped into the cool Minnesota night. There were cameras all over, filming us heading into the arena, and I headed to the VIP entrance. I pushed open the doors, and headed down the hallway to the visitors complex.

"Hey Jake, when do we have to be at the bus tomorrow?" Mike asked.

"Fucked if I know." I replied, shrugging.

"Hey guys!" Called our head equipment manager Sam.

"Hey Sam!" I called back, waving at him. "Ready for a busy night?"

"You bet!" Sam said. "Never been readier!"

I laughed, and headed into the dressing room, where my stall had already been set up, with my equipment and belongings in the locker under the seat.

I sat down in my stall, and looked around the room. It was pure chaos. There were people all over, moving and setting things up. There was equipment, and bags all over the floor, and there were players trying to find equipment to set up for tomorrow in their own special way.

I sighed, and pulled out my phone. It was an android, a black HTC. I would never buy an apple device. I hated apple.

I typed in my password, Ovechkin8, after my idol, and hit enter. It brought up my text messages. I saw that Colette had texted me a few minutes ago, saying that they were almost ready to land in Minnesota.

I sighed, and headed for the coaches room. I needed to figure out the plan for tomorrow.

I knocked on the door to the room, and Darryl Sutter answered the door, waving me into the room.

"Hey." I said. "What's the plan for tomorrow?"

"You're gonna start on the 1st line, along side Dustin and Justin." He told me.

"OK. Do we have a meeting tomorrow?" I asked him.

"Sure. Come and see me at noon." He said.

I nodded, to show that I understood, and headed out the door.
