The light of my life
"I have wanted to that for so long," Patrick said, a bit nervous about her reaction. "I'm so sorry Belle. I just -" "No, it's all good. I promise." Isabelle replied with a little smile on her face. "I am a bit confused though. What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be on a plane to Chicago by now?" Patrick nodded. "What I should do and what I want to do are two different things. I talked to coach Q, we don't have a game until wednesday, which is three days away. He told me I could get some days off, if I promised him I would work out. Maybe practice on ice somewhere in the Boston area"
Isabelle sighed, it was so typical Patrick to talk until he got what he wanted, but even though she thought her friend was out of mind for staying with her instead of doing his job, she liked having him around. But she also knew, the longer he stayed with her, the harder it would be to say good bye when it was time for that.
"Don't sigh," Patrick said and looked at her. "Can we go and sit somewhere? I'm so tired and I can't stand for so much longer"
"You should sleep," Isabelle said as she walked into the guestroom. "The sheets are clean, no one has slept in here since my friend Olivia, which was months ago. Go ahead and get some sleep"
"But I should be sith you"
The girl shock her head. "We have two more days for that"
"You aren't going to run away again while I'm asleep?"
"God, Pat. You sound like a kid. Go to sleep now," Isabelle said and turned the lights off. "And if it makes you sleep better: I'm not going anywhere"
Isabelle sat down in her bed in her bedroom, took her phone and called her uncle, James.
"Hello uncle, it's me. Isabelle"
"Hi Belle! Is evrything okay?," James asked. James was Isabelle's mother's younger half-brother, they had the same father. He was 10 years younger than Isabelle's mother, he was turning 50 later this year.
"Eh, kinda?" Isabelle replied. "You know Patrick, my old best friend?"
"Of course I do! You two were always together, and we went to this draft day. Why do you ask?"
Isabelle smiled. "We did. Anyway, he's here"
"What do you mean with here?," he asked, sounding very confused.
"It is a long story, Jamie"
"I have time, you know that," James told her. And oh, she knew.
"I was walking home from Jessica last night, and then this man attacked me. I screamed for help, and Patrick somehow heard it. He helped me get the man off me and we decided to talk at his hotelroom. Talk, James, not having sex. We talked, cries and when things were okay he offered to let me sleep in his room since it was really late, he could stay at his teammate's room and I could have his"
"I'm so glad he saved you, Isa. Only the man and god himself knows what would have happened if Patrick didn't hear your scream," James said. "But how many times have I told you not to walk around those streets at nights? The neighborhood Jessica lives in isn't nice, Isabelle. I would rather have you sleep at her apartment instead of walking alone"
"I know, I know"
"But continue telling me the story. How come he is in your apartment?"
"Early this morning, I came home to take a showen, change clothes... You know, I fixed me. Patrick came along and we read from my diary and letters I never sent. The diary I wrote in when things were bad, remember? Time flies as always and he had to get to the airport to catch his flight to Chicago"
Isabelle took a deep breath. "He talked to his coach, I guess, and somehow ended up knocking at my door. Instead of saying hello, he kissed me"
"He did what?," James asked. "He just kissed you like that? After a day? That's crazy. Things are going -"
"Way too fast, I know," Isabelle finished her uncle sentence. "I'm scared, uncle. It was so hard to leave him at the airport earlier and now we will spend three more days together... It will be even harder to say good bye when we have spent even more time together. Like, what if I don't meet him again in a very long time?"
"Sweetie, slow down. Calm down. Take one or three deep breaths, alright?" James said and Isabelle tried her best to do as James said. "You and Patrick will meet one day after this, it doesn't has to mean it will take years before it happens again, okay? You both knows where each other lives, all you need to do is to call the other one and decude when is a good time for a visit. It is not harder than that, Isabelle"
The young girl nodded, even though her uncle couldn't see it. "I guess you are right, thanks"
"I am right and any time, sweetie," James said and Isabelle couldn't see his smile, but she knew there was one on his lips right now. "Is there anything else I can help with?"
"You are free to go," Isabelle laughed a bit. "Or if there is anything on your mind, go ahead and tell me"
"I'm good. Bye, Isa. Love you"
James and Isabelle was close, James had become the father Isabelle never really had. He was always there for her, no matter what. He loved her. Since his wife Victoria and he didn't had any children, they both saw Isabelle as their daugther. They had taken care of her since she was sixteen, they had helped her through the hardest times and they both loved her a lot.
Isabelle smiled and put her blanket around her. "See you later, James. Love you too"
She decided to watch Criminal Minds, her favourite show. Three episodes later, she was sleeping.
Eight months later, here you have a new chapter. I'm so sorry you didn't get it earlier, but I haven't had the time or inspiration to write on any story.
Anyway, I hope you like this! I haven't read through it, so please tell me if there's any grammar mistakes or if any words is spelt wrong. Thank you!
