Good Morning Chicago

1/1

I woke up this morning to my alarm clock in the form of the top morning DJ in Chicago. Slamming down on the off button I looked to my left seeing a dark haired sleeping figure. I walked to the bathroom and looked in the mirror, horrified of my current self I quickly washed my face, brushed my hair and put it up in a loose pony tail to be fixed later.

I walked into the bedroom next to the one I was in and went to the two beds that lie beside each other. I used both arms to wake up the people hiding behind the pink comforters, hearing twin groans I smiled satisfied and walked out towards the kitchen only to be created by the figure that I woke up next to just a few minutes before hand.

He said good morning to me, kissing my forehead as I went into the refrigerator to prepare breakfast. I pulled out the eggs from the top shelf and all the rest of the ingredients for a nice scrambled eggs and hash-brown breakfast. He sat down at the kitchen table with newspaper in hand; occasionally sipping his 2 sugars 1 cream coffee.

I fixed breakfast just as the twins came down in the kitchen at their usual 6:15 half ready to start their day. They sat down at the table along with him waiting for their scrambled eggs to be served. I gave them a good morning smile placing their almost perfectly equal plates of eggs in front of them. They said good morning to me in unison. I went back to my normal spot in the kitchen to clean up the dishes listening to a story Summer was telling about a dream she had last night. I’m pretty sure it had something to do with her celebrity crush finally asking her to marry him or something of the sort.

After both plates were cleaned and all stories were shared the two girls left to go fight over the bathroom to get ready for school. They were in 8th grade at age 13. Summer more of an outgoing girl and Sarah the same but slightly less than her older sister than a minute and 15 seconds. Realizing I was late at getting ready for my job to work as a kindergarten teacher at their old elementary school I rushed out of the kitchen to the master bedroom.

I dressed in a nice blue blouse with the top two buttons unbuttoned to see the “open heart” necklace I had received for my 10th anniversary with a denim skirt. Living in Chicago the weather was unpredictable and today it decided to be 80 degrees and sunny in the middle of September. Walking back into the bathroom I did my regular make up; foundation, powder, a light brown eye shadow, eyeliner, and a light pink lip gloss. As I looked at my finished product in the mirror standing at the door was that same dark haired man I’ve seen countless times before. He was wearing one of the countless hockey t-shirts he has, and a black pair of basketball shorts.

Leaning against the door frame he smiled at me crossing his arms. I looked at him and then back at the mirror. He walked into the bathroom and sat down on the bath tub ledge across from me. He gave me an ‘I love you’ as we made eye contact, him with his deep brown eyes that seemed to go on for forever, and my blue slightly green eyes that he had one told me made the oceans jealous.

A small blush came to my cheeks. No matter how many times he has said that it will still give me butterflies. I told him I loved him back giving him a delicate kiss. I then got up and walked into the living room, with him close behind, to find Summer and Sarah waiting with their bags, watching Spongebob Squarepants ready to go to school. I told them I’d meet them in the car as I tossed Sarah the car keys.

I was finally alone with him. Through an entire morning we only had one conversation, and that conversation was only three words, a smile, and a kiss. I looked at him in the eyes and wrapped my arms around his neck and automatically his hands were placed at my petite waist. I had asked him if I really needed to go to work. He shook his head no but told me that I would be bored out of my mind. I laughed at him and he gave me another peck on the lips.

I started to walk towards the door his hand was still around my waist picking up my purse like a gentlemen he handed it to me and told me to have a good day at work. I gave him a final I love you and a good bye kiss until tonight and walked out the door and took a deep breath.

Good Morning Chicago,
I am Mrs. Emma Toews and I am finally ready to face the world.
