Patrick Kane and Me

September 22nd 2010: Mission: Possible

Waking up the next morning I walked into the kitchen with my hair up in a messy pony tail wearing sweat pants and an oversized Three Days Grace t-shirt. All I could think about was Jonathan. He actually needed a girl that would treat him right. A girl that wouldn’t cheat on him or do stupid things like what I did. Pat was sitting at the kitchen table looking at the newspaper drinking coffee. “Morning,” I said with a weak smile. “Morning,” he answered back.

I went and poured myself a bowl of lucky charms mine and Pat’s favorite cereal thinking about whether I should bring up what had been on my mind all morning or to just solve this by myself. He looked back at me when I started pouring the cereal. “What?” He didn’t say anything just stared at me, “You want a bowl?” He gave me a wide grin and nodded. I rolled my eyes and grabbed another bowl.

I sat down at the table across from him sliding his bowl over to him. We sat there quietly eating our cereal with only the sounds of the newspaper and the metal spoons hitting the bowls. He peered over his newspaper and stared at me but I continued to stare down at my bowl pushing the marshmallows around with my spoon. “Alright Nat what’s on your mind. You normally aren’t this quiet at breakfast. What happened at Tazer’s house yesterday?”

“Nothing happened. We talked and we’re friends, and I’m not too convinced that he’s okay with that. I mean Pat you should’ve seen his apartment. It was downright terrible! There was cans of that Canadian beer he drinks everywhere and he looked that he hadn’t shaved in awhile! It just wasn’t Jonathan and it’s all, my fault!”

His eyes widened, “Nat, calm down. It’s okay, we’ll fix this.” He cooed, “I helped you get into this mess, we’re gonna figure a way out.” I looked up at his half smile he was wearing. “Well, I do have an idea. Jonathan needs a girlfriend right?” He nodded, “So why don’t we find someone? There has got to be a girl that would love to go on a date with Jonathan Toews right?” He leaned back on his chair so the front legs weren’t touching the ground anymore, “Yeah definitely, this is gonna be a piece of cake.”

We were on a mission so nothing was going to stop us. We were going to help Jonathan Toews find a leading lady if it killed us. I ended up facebook creeping on Jon’s profile and looked at all his pictures, and in all the pictures from when he was little there was always a little blonde haired girl in them and I went to her page and her name was Megan.

I messaged her explaining my situation and noticing that she seemed to be really good friends with him when they were little. She actually said that she was going to be in town for some business and that we should get together and talk.

I went to the designated Starbucks and waited at a table in the front for her. As she walked in she hadn’t changed a bit (well that I noticed from her pictures). She still had that shoulder length blonde hair and the stunning blue-green eyes that were to die for. She wasn’t the tallest person around maybe about 5 feet, and she wasn’t the thinnest girl around but she wasn’t the biggest, either way she was very pretty. I waved her over to my table where I was eating a blueberry muffin.

“Hi, I’m Natalie.” I said with a handshake. “I know, I’ve heard a lot about you from Jon. But it’s been such a long time since I’ve seen him.” We talked for a good hour just about Jon and his relationship problems. She told me that she had a coworker that moved from Calgary and is now living in Chicago that she believed would be perfect for him she was a huge hockey fanatic, and it just so happens that she is a single Blackhawks fan. Our plan was that we were going to set them both up on a blind date and hope for the best.

Right after we said our goodbyes I called Pat, “Yeah and she’s a Blackhawks fan too! OhmyGod I’m really hoping this works out.”

“So? What’s her name?”

“Oh sorry forgot that part,” I laughed, “Well, her name is Bella.”

“Pretty name, so what’s my job?”

“Just force him on this date, say it’s for the best to get me off his mind.”

“Wow a little self centered much?”

“Hey come on, I’m on your mind right now right?” Silence, “Exactly. This will work.”

Friday night came around and it was time for our plan to be set in motion. Megan was going to bring her to our apartment and then Jon would show up and they’d go on their date. This is going to be perfect. Pat and I sat around waiting for 6:00 to roll around doing nothing but sitting and watching TV. Then there was a knock on our door. We both ran over and fought for the door knob but once the door opened we were calm and normal. “Hey Megan good to see you again, this is Patrick Kane. Oh and this must be your co-worker Bella you were telling us about.” I smiled at her.

Bella was a pretty girl too. She was wearing a simple black dress that went down to her knees. She had blonde hair that was put up in a half pony tail and blue, blue eyes. When they both walked in Bella had about a half foot on Megan. We mingled waiting for Jon to show up. We learned that Bella played a lot of hockey when she was younger and still does recreationally today.

About a half hour later Jon finally showed up. Pat and I kept looking at the clock worried that he wasn’t going to show up. He walked through the door with his hair slightly spiked with gel wearing dark jeans with a nice dress shirt with his sleeves rolled up to his elbows with his hands in his pockets. When I introduced him to everyone he basically freaked out when he saw Megan. Wow it must have been a long time.

Anyway once I got to Bella, their eyes locked and something was there. I’m not sure what it was but it was there. There was an instant connection when he stuck his hand out for her to shake. “H-Hi,” He stuttered out, “I’m Jon.” He finished with a signature smirk. “Bella,” She smiled never losing eye contact.

“Well shouldn’t you two crazy kids get going? You have a long night ahead of you.” Pat said literally shoving them out the door. Once the door was closed we all prayed for the best.

JONATHAN’s POV

Wow, is all I have to say. Bella is beautiful. Okay Jon, don’t screw this up you’ve already done that with 2 girls this year let’s not make it a third. 3 is the magic number, just keep telling yourself that.

We ended up going to a nice restaurant in downtown Chicago. We talked about her life in Calgary, where she worked and about her family. She was funny, smart, and pretty. Plus, she was a hockey fanatic, and to add on to that she’s a Hawks fan. Man this girl is a dream come true. I kept getting lost in her blue eyes spacing out until she would bring me back to the conversation by calling my name about twenty times. I was worried she’d freak out like Hannah would and complain that I wasn’t listening. But all she would do was giggle and tell me I was funny.

After dinner I decided that I wanted to show her the city since she said she hadn’t been living her for awhile. I went to the host and asked if he could call for a horse and carriage to pick us up in about fifteen minutes. He smiled, “It would be my pleasure Mr. Toews.” Yep, he’s a hawks fan. Everyone was either a Hawk bandwagon fan or a true hawks fan now, especially after we won the Stanley Cup.

I went back to the table and sat down trying to hide my special plan from her. “So what was that about?”

“Oh that? Uh nothing he just wanted an autograph.” She smiled, “Oh really? I didn’t see you sign anything.” Damn it alright Toews come up with something quick, “That’s because I told him I’d sign something when we were going to leave that’s all.” She seemed to buy it since she went into another conversation topic. Once the host came back to our table I knew it was time to go. She looked at me with a curious face. “Just come with me.” I stuck my hand out towards her and she gracefully took it. For a girl that plays hockey she sure can be graceful and lady like too.

We walked out into the Chicago air. Her mouth just about dropped when she saw the white horse drawn carriage with a man in a black suit there to greet us. “Jon what is this?” I walked towards the carriage and opened the door for her, “Well you told me you hadn’t been in Chicago for awhile, I thought I’d might give you a tour myself of downtown Chicago at night.”

She walked up the step and sat down beside me. I had my arm draped over her shoulder as she was in awe at the beautiful lights and sounds of the city. I showed her the Sears/Willis Tower, Millennium Park, and other wonderful sights of the city.

Once the tour was over we were dropped back off at the restaurant and I drove her back to Pat and Natalie’s apartment. I walked her upstairs hand in hand and stood by the door. I gave her a kiss goodnight and sparks flew, sparks that wasn’t there for Nat and I. “So can I count on a second date?” She smiled biting her bottom lip, “Of course.”

Natalie’s POV

From what I heard of the date Jon went totally over the top with her, a fricken horse drawn carriage ride around the city? Come on! I never got one of those! But he’s happy so that’s all that matters. Once both Megan and Bella left Pat and I celebrated with a beer and a happy dance.

“We did it Pat!” I said jumping around the apartment.

“Yeah I know! I’m pretty sure this is the happiest he’s been in awhile.”

We continued to jump around for Tazer for the rest of the night. This has got to be the weirdest night I’ve had in awhile. But it was for Tazer so it’s okay.
