A Summer to Remember

Natalie’s Point of View

I decided that if I was going to want to marry Pat as quick as possible, then I would need to get this divorce as quick as possible, so I went in and filed for the divorce. It was actually easier than I thought it was going to be. Because we were only married for about a year and a half there really wasn’t a lot of things that needed to be discussed, especially because he’s in jail so even before this we were separated. But of course when his lawyer got a whiff of it he called up my lawyer and said we needed to schedule a meeting to cover the important possessions. But I really don’t understand why because the only important possessions we have are the house and the 2 cars. But 1 car is mine and the other is his, and we were planning on selling the house any way since what’s the point of having it if I’m going to be the only one living there. But if it’s to finalize this whole thing as fast as possible then I would be happy to come in for a meeting.

The next day I went to the legal offices and sat down with my lawyer and his lawyer. His lawyer was a short thin woman with dark black hair that was placed up in a tight high professional bun. Her name was Jill Pertinski, and she showed up with a purpose. She placed her brief case down on the table across from me and sat down but stared at her watch and then the door seeming very anxious. Then a smile came to her face when she was looking at the door. I didn’t understand why until he walked in. Tyler’s eyes never left mine as he sat down with a police officer right after who stood by the door the entire time. “Alright let’s talk turkey.” Jill said, “The big things that are up for grabs are the house and the two cars.”

Our lawyers started and continued the discussion with the occasional interjections from either me or Tyler. But other than that he stayed quiet. But he kept his eyes on me, at one point I saw him glance down and then his eyes got wide but I rolled my eyes thinking he was checking me out, perv. He started to glance everywhere around the room and then finally he snapped. He stood up from his seat, “Oh my God Natalie, You had the baby! Where is my baby Natalie? Jill I want custody of the baby.” He was panicking and no one could calm him down except for me. “Tyler! Sit down!” I finally screamed. The room went silent as he sat down. The police officer who had come to our rescue went back to his spot at the door and all eyes were on me. “I lost the baby Tyler. I went into labor when the baby was only 4 months; it wasn’t even a baby yet. We were going to have a boy.” The room stayed silent for a bit before he spoke, “This is all my fault isn’t it?” I stayed quiet even though deep down in my heart I believed that to be true. He rolled his eyes as he got up from the table once more, “Whatever, I don’t care anymore ladies there isn’t any more discussing to be done. Just give her everything, that’s the least I could do for her.” And with a wave of his hand the police officer took him away.

I was so confused; as I sat there dumbfounded Jill Pertinski got up and started to pack up everything. What does she care anyway? She’s still getting paid. She followed quickly after Tyler and left me alone with my lawyer Amanda Parkinson. “What just happened?” “Well, to say simply, you won, everything.” I laid my head on the table in complete and utter confusion. How did that happen? Coming into this thing I thought that it was going to be a hard fought battle but in reality he just gave me everything. I mean what kind of guy does that? He’s worked hard for all of this and he’s just giving it away. I have to find out why. I ran out of the room and down the hall where I caught a small glimpse of the police officer walking after Tyler. Yes, they haven’t left yet I said to myself. I ran past him and found Tyler waiting at the locked police car.

He stood there with his arms crossed in front of his chest and he looked up at me and the anger shown on his face faded as he looked up for a quick second before looking back down. “What do you want you already haveeverything.” I walked up and leaned against the car next to him. “All I want from you is to know why you gave me everything.” He had a quick response for me, “Well, isn’t it obvious? It was my fault you lost the baby. That was the least that I could do, especially if I’m in jail for all this. Now can you just go and get out of my life and get back to yours? Please?” I didn’t want to make him angrier so I just left him there standing in silence, but first, “Oh and Tyler.” He looked up as I removed the ring from my finger and placed it in his hand. I gave him a sympathetic smile and walked away. “Natalie, I know you’ve been going by Vaughn for awhile now,” I stopped but never turned around, “but now congratulations you are now officially Vaughn again.”

I took a deep breath; I was making the right decision. Even though I’m breaking this guy’s heart I knew Patrick Kane was the right guy for me. He’s always been the right guy. Once i got home everyone was waiting at baited breath to find out what happened. Patrick came up to me first, “So what happened?” I showed him my left hand that didn’t have any ring on it. He smiled and wrapped his arms around my midsection and spun me around. “And you’re not going to guess the best part. I got everything.” His eyes went wide, “How’d that happen?” “Well, he told me that I deserved it considering it was his fault that I lost the baby. And I mean I feel bad for the guy but it was his fault.” Wow I feel like a bitch just saying that. But no one else seemed to care and that feeling left me behind one he kissed me. “Alright so now we get to plan the wedding right?” Erica yelled and of course everyone laughed, “No seriously we have a lot of things to plan, like a wedding date.” She grabbed me from Pat’s grasp and swoop me away into her bedroom. “Okay guys well I guess I’ll see you later.”
