The Hockey Life

Action

PART TWENTY-FIVE: ACTION
Patrick texted me as soon as he got back in Chicago. I was glad he was back again, but I knew he was tired, so spending time with him had to wait until the next day. However, I was surprised at his request.
>You wanna hang out tomorrow?

>How about your place?

>It’s really not that bad, ya know

>Well, I just thought we could change things up, since we’re usually at my place

> I don’t care, honestly
I couldn’t believe that Patrick actually wanted to hang out at my tiny apartment. I didn’t know how fun that would be, but he insisted that it was fine, so we decided to go through with it.
“Hey, you better behave tomorrow,” I warned Tess when Patrick decided to go to bed and he stopped texting me.
“Why? I’m not your child,” she said.
“Because Patrick’s coming over, apparently. So you better be nice to both of us.”
“Hold on a second. Your hot hockey boyfriend is coming over tomorrow and you’re telling ME to behave? You’re the one who needs to behave, sister,” Tess said, putting a bag of popcorn into the microwave.
“What makes you think I’m not going to behave?” I asked.
“Well, if I was dating Jonathan Toews and I had him at my place I’m pretty sure I’d be all over him. It’s the same basic principle for you two,” Tess explained.
“Not exactly. It’s only been a little over a week. I know we’ve been talking for longer than that, but still.”
“Well, a make-out session can easily turn into something else. I’m just saying! You never know.”
“And what makes you think we’re going to have a make-out session?” I wondered.
“I don’t know, haven’t you already?” Wow, Tess really had no idea what our relationship consisted of.
“No…is that weird?” I asked, suddenly self-conscious.
“Depends on the person and the relationship itself. I kinda just assumed you took advantage of the fact that you could easily be alone.”
“I mean, we kiss…I don’t know. I guess there’s a first time for everything,” I decided. I was completely right, too.
******************************************************
The next day when he got to our place, Tess went straight for her room.
“You’re not going to hang out with us?” Patrick asked. He seemed to like Tess’ company, but sometimes I had no clue why.
“Nah, maybe later. I’ve got a lot of studying to do now. I’ll see you guys in a while,” she said. I caught her winking at me before she disappeared into her bedroom and shut the door behind her.
“That’s surprising. I thought she’d chill out here with us,” Patrick said.
“Yeah, I did too. She seems to think she needs to supervise us,” I answered. He just laughed at my comment and I changed the subject, asking what he could possibly want to do.
We decided to play Wii. We agreed on playing Mario Kart, but we didn’t play for long before the conversation Tess and I had the night before seemed almost funny. When I finally was able to win a race, the topic didn’t seem like a coincidence anymore.
“Ha! After all that cockiness from you for three straight races, I BEAT YOU!” I shouted. I was probably disturbing the neighbors, but I didn’t really care. They dealt with listening to Tess’ loudness everyday, so I was sure they could deal with me.
“Only because I let you win!” Patrick responded.
“Yeah right,” I chuckled. He hadn’t let me win before, why was it any different now?
“I’m serious!” he assured me.
“Okay, why’d you let me win, then?” I asked.
“So I could do this.” He pulled me in and kissed me. I expected him to break away, but he didn’t. Instead, he just pulled me closer and kept kissing me. It was unexpected, but it seemed right. What I thought would just be a quick little kiss turned into an open mouth one. When we finally broke apart, we were breathless.
“You didn’t have to let me win to do that,” I said.
“Too late.”
After that, we went back to playing games. I mean, actually playing games and not getting sidetracked. Eventually, Tess came out of her room to hang out with us, but only after we had a significant amount of time alone. Patrick and I had transitioned into watching shows on Netflix by then, so she joined us. A while later, Patrick left. I wished he didn’t have to go.
“So what did I miss while I was hiding out?” Tess asked as she made herself a cup of hot chocolate. There was always plenty in the apartment when it was cold outside and we went through it quickly.
“Not much. We just played games…and stuff.”
“What stuff?”
“Remember our conversation yesterday? And I said there was a first time for everything?” Tess’ hot chocolate idea inspired me to make a cappuccino for myself.
“But it’s only been a little over a week, Lean,” Tess commented, mocking me.
“Well, we were talking for about three weeks before that, Tess,” I said, not letting her imitation bother me.
“I know Lean. It’s called a joke! Well anyways, what’s the verdict?” I watched as Tess put as many mini marshmallows as she could into her cup.
“What do you mean?”
“Good or bad?”
“What are you talking about?”
“The tongue action you got, you idiot!” Tess clarified. Her new favorite thing seemed to be adding “you idiot” to every sentence.
“Obviously it was terrible,” I said sarcastically. Apparently Tess didn’t catch the sarcasm in my voice.
“Really?” she said, amazed.
“No, not really, you idiot!” I said, mocking her new catch phrase. “Honestly, it was the best make out session I’ve ever had,” I added.
“Better than that Joe kid you dated a couple years ago?”
“Definitely better than that Joe kid I dated a couple years ago.” Tess gasped at my answer. I had this phase where I was obsessed with this bad boy type and he had been at the top of my best kissers list that consisted of the guys I had dated or been in a relationship with. Tess knew from what I had told her that if someone was able to top him, they were talented.
“Well, congratulations for not only choosing a celebrity and a hockey player but also the best kisser ever. Jesus, when did you start getting more action than me?” Tess said.
“When the impossible started happening,” I answered. The impossible had been happening to me a whole lot. First, I got accepted into the Blackhawks internship program. Then, I met all the players. Then, I won the final competition. Then I got involved with Kaner. Now, we were an item. What could possibly be next? I had no idea. I just hoped that whatever crazy thing came next would be another good thing.

Notes

I would apologize for taking too long to update, but instead I've decided to accept the fact that I can't promise such quick updates anymore. With school and my after school activities, I can't always write and update in time, and there are always moments when I'm just not inspired enough to write well too. Because of this, expect one update a week rather than one update every couple days. Obviously there will be some cases when I have a lot of time or I'm very inspired so I actually update that often, but I don't want to disappoint anyone anymore by not updating as quickly as I say I will. Well, anyways, let me know what you think of the chapter and vote if you like the story so far :)
