Confessions from a Ranger's Roommate

Meeting Del Zotto's Hometown Friends

Marian was still eying her with that same saddened expression Brian had for her when her pocket buzzed. Teodora pulled out her phone to see an SOS text from Michael. "Uh oh. What's this?" She asked with a smile and opened the next text. "Oh my God. Looks like I have first aid duties."

"First aid duties?" He asked and took her phone.
"You know Alex from last night. Wild Chinese guy?" She laughed. "DZ offered up the apartment for him to crash and I said no. Boy snored and on the way to the train to go home, Yoshi and him were beating on each other and Alex got a bloody nose."

"Ha!" Marian barked. "You ever fight him?"
She snorted. "Of course. Hafta keep that punk in line. Bit him once or twice when we were younger." She glanced at a food vendor and gestured. "It's cold. Want coffee or hot chocolate?"
"Sure," he smiled teasingly. "I suppose you Californians need extra heat in the winters."
"Be quiet Slovakia boy," she retorted playfully and they hurried back to the apartment. Yoshi had some kendo experience while Alex still practiced wushu so she was a bit worried if something was broken. "Alright!" She yelled as they walked in. "What did you hooligans do?"

Alex sputtered and pointed at Yoshi. "Dude straight up punched me!" He cried
Marian hooted in laughter at the sight of Alex with a huge handful of blood stained paper towels. "Teo was right when she said nothing was boring around you."

Teodora tipped up his chin to examine his nose gently. "Nothing broken. Just don't get punched any time soon," she said. A phone was shoved into her face and she saw Boogaard apparently was sent a picture text of Alex and replied with a hahahahahaha!

"He was bleeding so bad over the sink when I got him in here!" Michael laughed.

Teodora laughed. "Maybe bleach the sink in case. Be right back," she said, needing to check to make sure she had a clean Rangers jersey or shirt. When she poked around her closet, she heard a noise behind her.

"Can I talk to you?" Michael asked and leaned against her doorframe.
She had a strong feeling he found out about Dev but still needed to crack a joke. "Oh God. I know Alex has an issue with wearing pants. Wearing clothes in general actually. I bet Torts said something to you."

He wrinkled his nose and cried, "NO! Come on, be serious," he scolded with laughter in his voice.
"You caught wind of Dev?" She asked and lifted a shoulder. "Very truthfully its no big deal. It really wasn't anything serious compared to other boyfriends."

Michael walked over to sit on her bed. "This guy's parents sounded like something though."
She made a face. "Eh. But like I said, I wasn't devastated when I ended things. I think there was some relief, like, I knew there was no true feelings. Like, I honestly think Dev didn't want me back. His parents embarrassed him and he was just trying to save face."
"That sucks," he sighed.

Puffing out her cheeks, she nodded. "Well. Like I said. My more serious boyfriends were Jirayu, this Thai American guy from our school and Imran, a Pakistani American guy from around the area." Michael nodded thoughtfully. "First I dated Imran and his parents sorta had this marriage they wanted with this other Pakistani American girl Hadiqa-who calls herself Winky." They both snorted with laughter. "Yup. Anyways, she was annoying. I don't think she wanted to be with him either but both were always hanging out with each other. Plus the parents ho hummed a lot."

"What about this Jirayu guy?" Michael pressed on.

"After graduation he left for Thailand for Muay Thai. Competing and stuff. Couldn't make it but the girls flocked for his looks so he's like a actor slash singer. Even though he sucks ass at singing. So this whole time, he claims we should stay together but then does this reality TV fake boyfriend and girlfriend program and I bailed."

He started to say something else but she smiled. "Which brings me to a funny admission before Alex does-I've never dated a white guy yet." Michael mouthed a really and she smiled. "Yup. Lot has to do with San Francisco being bankers, computer tech, Internet development plus start up companies. So there was different races and the good white guys at my school were taken."

"So if a good potential white guy-not Matt," he quickly added, making her smile. "Well if a guy-no. You'd totally date on personality. After Manny your one former foster brother was Hispanic, and Jerome's African-American...plus your Afghan parents. All your different friends. The languages you speak."

"Yup. So if there's any good NHL players to date..." she teased as he sighed again.
"I can never have a serious conversation with you, can I?" Michael protested.
"Pretty much," she agreed happily and walked out with Michael. "I guess we should keep you around in case that nose of yours bleeds," she said to Alex.

Of course, the first thing Alex asks about the team the Rangers would play was, "So. Any good fighters from this Tampa team?"
"Hometown friends actually," Michael replied happily. "Back from Toronto." He excused himself to go gather his game things while Marian left for his apartment.

Alex looked at her outfit up and down. "You know I'm proud you're wearing those colors."
"Would you shut up?" She hissed. Of course it had been years since she had dealt with living in sketchy areas riddled with gangs, but Teodora still shyed away from wearing the formerly no-no red and blue colors.
Michal glanced out from his room to smile at the two old friends chatting in what he guessed was that Cambodian language Teodora spoke. In reality, she was ordering for him not to open his mouth about her slight fear in being seen with blatant Crip and Blood colors in her very limited Mandarin.
"Hao," he agreed. "Okay. I got it."

Punk, she thought. "This'll be nice to see his hometown friends. I swear he's been counting down on the calendar."
Michael nudged Teodora as he came out. "Just come to this game too Alex. No need to go home just yet with that nose. And Yoshi, no more beating on him!"

The two grinned as they followed the roommates to Madison Square Garden. "You know, this is kinda cool that you see this every day," Alex gestured. "Not that I wanted your hearing aid broken."
Teodora's phone buzzed from a text. "Hey Alex, your sister texted me." Looking at Michael, she said, "He has a sister named Ariel. She's graduating this year as well."

"What'd she want?" Alex asked and snorted when she smiled. "What, I-ABDC!" He bellowed. "HELL YES!"
Happily, she smiled at Michael. "You know how girls like me watch Gilmore Girls or Grey's Anatomy? Well, I don't. Get ready to watch America's Best Dance Crew!"

Yoshi grinned. "That show's great. It's a dance crew competition. Still think Ariel should go into dancing instead of school at Colorado-NOT AGAIN!" He bellowed as Brian jumped on his back. "Why are you making this a habit Boyle! Jesus, jump on him!"
"NO NO NO!" They all yelled. "Don't roughhouse Alex!"
Brian leaned in to examine Alex's nose. "That's right. Gaborik said you were bleeding everywhere. Nice bruise kid."
Alex covered his nose. "Leave me alone!"

Michael suddenly grinned past Teodora's shoulder. "Well, well, well. Look who managed to escape his school crap!"
There was a happy chorus of hey's as Kurt and Cara joined the group, grinning. "I escaped. Finally," he sighed happily. "Alex. Nice to see you. I see Yoshi hit you."
"Yeah. Can't leave you boys alone for a minute," she teased them and jerked her head. "Let's go see DZ's hometown friends.

A blond looked up immediately as they approached the Tampa team and her heart skipped. "Blond girl, you must be Teodora!" Alex snorted at the blond girl comment. Steven looked at Alex and laughed. "You must be the bloody nose kid."
"I like you already Stamkos. Where's the Steve Squared?" Teodora said and laughed at herself. "That was such a nerd comment."
Steve beamed at her and turned to holler. "Downie! Downer! Steve!" A towering dark haired player came and caught sight of Teodora. "DZ's roommate!"

The newer Steve flashed Teodora a wide, wolfish smile and plucked at his ear to pull out a hearing aid. "HEEY!" Teodora cried and yanked hers out as well. Reaching out, their hearing aids touched as if they were recreating the ET finger touching scene. The others started laughing. "Y'all are just jealous," she shot back.

Steve D set his hearing aid back in. "So, yeah. I heard you had meningitis." Steven S tugged a face of horror. "Yup, I've heard of people losing hearing because of it," Steve D affirmed.
"Right," she agreed. "And you have otosclerosis." When the non medical people made faces, she explained, "Abnormal bone growth."
Alex scratched the back of his neck. "Yeah. I've heard Pops mention it. Does it hurt? I mean, I sorta remember seeing Teo when the Ansary's brought her around and I know she was hurting."
Steve D pointed at her. "Oh she had it worse by far!" He huffed out. "Seriously. I can only imagine!"

Teodora noted a tall shadow falling over her and yelped AY before squatting down. Was Derek Boogaard back and messing with her? She looked up at the towering and quite good looking player smiling down at her. "Why are you so tall?"

"What's an ay?" He asked with a cute smile. Shame this guy was probably older and married.
"Ay is oh. Like ay dios mio is oh my God," Alex explained and then added quickly, "Spanish."

Steven moved forward. "Vinnie, this is Michael Del Zotto's roommate and her buddies," he introduced them. "Teodora Ansary. Everyone, this is our captain Vincent Lecavalier."
"Yeah, he's French Teodora," Yoshi teased. "Speak French with him. You should speak enough languages to magically pick it up."
She spun to shove him to the ground. "That's for Alex," she smiled as both Steve D and Steven S hooted in laughter.

"Do you speak French?" Vinnie asked and then repeated the same thing in French.
"The only 'hockey languages' I speak are English and Russian," she replied with a smile. It seemed to her like the languages most spoken were English, French, Russian, Swedish, Slovak and Czech. "Does anyone speak Spanish at least? I can't think so."

Steve S rubbed his neck. "Scott Gomez has Hispanic roots I think. Maybe Raffi Torres too."
Teodora nodded. "Those are Spanish names." A noise indicated the team should gather. "See ya hearing aid twin," she said and Steve D grinned widely.

Cara poked her arm and muttered, "Guapo."
However her boyfriend knew what the Spanish word for handsome was and smirked at the two of them. "He's older and married."

Teodora started to nod in agreement as Alex protested, "Stop being such girls! Denise and Taeyeon aren't here!" She turned slightly and immediately he cupped his balls.
Michael was shoving Brandon around as they approached to say a quick hi before the puck was dropped. "What's he doing?" He laughed as Alex grinned and lifted his hands. "You go beat up on my old teammates?"

Kurt snorted. "That Downie guy and Teodora declared themselves hearing aid twins."
"Aw, that's cute," Michael teased and Teodora instinctively tried to shove him down. Remembering he was a defenseman, she ignored his smirk, turned, and shoved Yoshi back down instead. "Children," he chided playfully before the team started to line up.
"See ya roomie, good luck," she said and left with the group as the Rangers boys nudged her in greeting as they passed.

As the others discussed Coach Tortorella facing his old team, the team he had lead to the Stanley Cup championship back in 04, she couldn't help but ponder what that would be like, to date a NHL player. Not if DZ aka Captain Spazz Pants has his way, Teodora thought with a smile.

Eventually, her thoughts were interrupted when the game buzzer went off, indicating the Rangers narrowly beating Tampa Bay.

Though on another note, I should explain that Teodora's adopted family is a fictional family from Afghanistan. I'm having them sort of be like the Kennedy's of Afghanistan-so a big name political family and the grandfather (whom I haven't exactly introduced yet) is sort of like a mix of Martin Sheen's character from the West Wing and the father in the Kite Runner. Lol, so don't go looking them up in Wikipedia expecting them to be real ;)
