Therapy is Good for the Soul

Chapter 1

It was the final game of the season for Bergy’s Bravehearts, the program Patrice Bergeron started with Boston Children’s Hospital’s rehabilitation department. Bailey loved watching the patients and their families get the red carpet treatment and have a chance to escape and just have fun for a night. She was proud that she played a role in getting the Braveheart program up and running and hopes it will continue for years to come. She relished every moment with these special families and the Braveheart program; it is one of her favorite things about her job. “I still can’t believe I get to help several patients each year have such an incredible experience with the Bruins organization, but I get to attend the games with them for free. You can’t beat that, I am such a lucky girl!” Bailey thought to herself, as she looked around the suite at all the families enjoying the final minutes of the game.

The final horn blew and the Bruins won the game 2-1 over the Rangers thanks to an amazing goal by Brad Marchand with less than a minute on the clock. The crowd was going nuts, all the Braveheart families and Bailey joined in the excitement in their special suite. The group had a fantastic evening, enjoying dinner and the game thanks to Bergeron’s generosity. Bailey wondered if their evening would be cut short after Bergy left the game early, due to a high stick and a hard hit from Ryan McDonagh. Typically the families got to have a private meet and greet with him, received special Bruins merchandise, and sometimes a tour of the Bruins locker room after the games. Bailey didn’t want the kids to be disappointed, but knew Bergeron’s health had to come first. She said a quick prayer for Bergy and that everything would work out.

“Did everyone have fun and enjoy the game tonight?” asked Jessica, part of the Bruin’s special programs staff “YES!!” “Thank you!” was heard from the families.

Alexis, a sweet little blond girl moved her power chair over to Jessica and asked “Is Mr. Bergy ok? I want to give him a hug and kiss his boo boo!”

“Aww, that is very sweet of you Alexis, but Bergy had to leave so the doctor can make him all better. He wanted me to say he’s sorry he didn’t get to meet all of you and hopes he can make it up to you somehow. In fact, he has asked a few of his friends to help him out tonight. Would you all like to meet them?” Jessica asked.
The entire group yelled, “Yes!” They couldn’t wait to see which Bruins they would get to meet.

“Ms. Bailey, do you think we can meet Seggy tonight? He’s super cute! He’s my favorite next to Mr. Bergy.” Alexis blushed as she spoke.

“I don’t know, maybe. We just have to wait and see.” Bailey said as she smiled and they continued on their way to the meet and greet room.

The group was anxiously waiting for about 20 minutes when Jessica walked back in the room. “Are you ready to meet Bergy’s friends?”The all screamed yes with delight! “I’d like you to meet Andrew Ference and Tyler Seguin.” Jessica said.

As soon as Tyler walked in the room, Bailey looked at Alexis, who started Squealing uncontrollably with joy! It was the cutest thing Bailey had seen in a long time. Alexis had a rough couple of years having multiple surgeries and extensive rehab after her accident. Bailey has been her occupational therapist since the accident and they had forged a great bond. Nothing made Bailey happier than to see Alexis smile. When it was Alexis’ turn to meet Tyler, Bailey helped get her out of her wheelchair and helped her walk over to him. Alexis was blushing, as she got closer to Tyler.

“Hey pretty girl” Tyler said and Alexis immediately started squealing again and the entire room erupted in laughter. Nobody had ever seen Alexis this excited before. It was a wonderful sight to see! “Do you want a picture with me?” He asked and Alexis’ smile grew even more. Tyler looked at Bailey and asked if it would be ok for Alexis to sit in his lap. Bailey knew this was a once in a lifetime moment for Alexis. She helped Tyler so Alexis had the support she needed to sit upright for the photo. Just as Alexis’ dad snapped the photo, Alexis planted a gentle kiss on Tyler’s cheek.Tyler laughed and told Alexis she was his special girl now and then carried her back to her chair. Tyler gave Alexis a gentle kiss on her forehead after Bailey had safely fastened her back in her wheelchair. Alexis was over the moon and Bailey discovered a new motivation for Alexis’ therapy sessions! “Thank you Ms. Bailey, for the best night of my life! I love you!” Alexis spat out as she hugged Bailey.

“Are you sure you had fun?” Bailey joked.

“Mr. Tyler called me his special girl. I’m gonna marry him!” Alexis exclaimed.

“And once again, Segs gets the girl.” Andrew said and everyone laughed.

“It’s ok, Mr. Andrew, you can have Ms. Bailey.” Alexis said.

Did she really just say that? Great, now everyone knows I’m single and I have a seven year old pimping me out! Don’t think things could get any worse, Bailey cringed as she felt her cheeks get flushed with all eyes in the room directed towards her. Thank heavens Alexis’s dad stepped in and made a joke that he was the only man for his little princess and that it was time to get her home and to bed. All the families said a final thank you to Andrew, Tyler, Jessica, and Bailey then headed out the door.

Andrew and Tyler were great with all of the patients and families. They took time to sign their Bergy’s Bravehearts shirts, other Bruins merchandise, and photos. They truly took time to talk to all the kids and let them enjoy the moment.

“Thank y’all so much for stepping in at the last minute and spending time with these special kids. It means more than y’all will ever know to these families and will help motivate these kids as they continue their journey in rehab.” Bailey said to Andrew and Tyler. They spoke for a few minutes about Bergy’s program and all the patients they just met before Andrew excused himself to find his family. Tyler followed him out, but not before he clearly checked Bailey out one last time. Bailey hung back to talk to Jessica about the evening and the upcoming Summer Games program that would be held at the TD Gardens in August. They hugged and Bailey headed out.

“Hold the elevator!” She heard a voice cry out. Bailey pushed the door open button and Tyler Seguin stepped in with a charming grin on his face. He thought Bailey was cute with her petite, maybe 5’2” frame, caramel hair with auburn highlights, and beautiful, piercing hazel eyes, but it wasn’t until she spoke that he decided to make his move. Tyler couldn’t resist that sweet but sultry southern accent of hers. He was ready for some fun and thought Bailey was the perfect girl for tonight.

“I really enjoyed tonight, that Alexis is something special!” Tyler said.

“She truly is. I know I shouldn't have a favorite patient, but she’s definitely one of mine. Thank you again for making tonight special for her Mr. Seguin.”

“It was my pleasure, and please call me Tyler,” he said with a wink.

“Thank you, and goodnight Tyler” Tyler oozed of sex with his chiseled abs and his tattooed forearm, but Bailey was not going to be lured in by his charm. She was well aware of his reputation as a ladies man. She wasn’t like the scores of girls in Boston that would do anything just to get a smile from him.

“Wait a minute, Bay” Tyler called as he followed her towards the exit. She turned around and waited to see what he had to say. “I’m headed out to meet some of the guys to celebrate the win. Come with me; I promise I’ll show you a great time.” He said with a suggestive grin on his face as he leaned in just inches from Bailey’s face.

“Good Night, Mr. Seguin.”Bailey rolled her eyes as she turned away from Tyler and walked out the exit door to head home. Tyler stood there stunned; he couldn’t believe she turned him down and just walked off. There was just something about this girl; he needed to see her again.

Notes

This is my first attempt at a story, so any feedback regarding content or format would be appreciated. I know Tyler was traded to the Dallas Stars, but I don't know anything about that team and had the idea for this story before it happened. It's fiction, so I figured it was ok. Who knows, maybe as the story develops I might work the trade in.
