Therapy is Good for the Soul

Chapter 43

"Do you want to watch another episode or are you tired from the game and want to go to bed?" Bailey rolled onto her back so her head was looking up at Tyler from his lap.

“Nah, I think I’m just going to head out.”

Bailey immediately sat up and turned to face Tyler. “You aren’t stayin the night?”

“No, I’ve got a bunch of stuff I have to get done in the morning before practice and the things I need are at my place.”

"Ok, let me just run pack a few things and we can head out."

"Bay, I have to get up very early and you need to sleep."

"It's fine, I don't mind. I can even help you get your errands done, that way both of us could get a little more sleep."

Tyler bent down and kissed Bailey’s forehead. "That's sweet, but you can't really help, its just stuff I need to do."

"Oh, but it's really not a big deal if you need to leave early. I promise it won't bother me."

“You need to sleep in; I’ll see you tomorrow.” He kissed her lips lightly. As he started to stand, she grabbed his hand and gave it a little tug.

“Please let me come with you.” Bailey’s eyes were pleading with Tyler not to go or to take her with him.

"Bay what's going on, why are you being so clingy?" He hoped Bailey would finally open up and tell him the truth about her sister. Instead all he did was upset her more.

Bailey got up from the couch with tears brimming her eyes. "You think I'm clingy? I'm sorry; I didn't mean to be a bother! I'll just go to bed. You can see yourself out!" She stormed off to her room and plopped down onto the bed and let the tears flow.

"Fuck!" Tyler ran his hands through his hair, pissed at himself for upsetting Bailey more than she already was, when all he was trying to do was get out of there without giving away his surprise. He couldn't leave like this, so he followed Bailey to her room and lay down on his side behind her, wrapping his arm around her. "Bay I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. Clingy was a poor choice of words. You know I love spending time with you. I really do have things I have to get done in the morning and I know you haven’t been sleeping well, so I didn’t want to disturb you in the morning. Otherwise, you know I’d stay with you or want you to come home with me. These past few days, it's like your afraid to be alone which isn't like you. You've always been so independent. I know something is wrong; you've been crying in the mornings. Please let me in and tell me what's wrong; it's not healthy for you to keep stuff locked up! We have to communicate. I can't help you if you don't talk to me. Please Bay, it kills me seeing you like this!" He pushed her hair to the side and behind her ear to kiss her cheek. "I love you, please let me help."

Bailey took a deep breath and placed his hand between both of hers before responding to his pleas. “I don’t want to lose you Tyler.”

He pulled her in closer and kissed the corner of her mouth in reassurance. “Bay, I’m not going anywhere. I love you and will always be here for you.”

“I just can’t do it!”

“Do what Bay?”

“Tyler, do you think you could still love me, even if I do something really selfish and my whole family hates me?”

“Bay, I’m pretty sure there isn’t a selfish bone in your body and nobody could ever hate you. But even if your family is crazy and decided to hate you, I’d stand by your side. You’ll not only have me, but my family pretty much thinks you walk on water so you’d have them too. You’ll never be alone if that’s what you’re worried about.”

“Do you really mean it?” She rolled over to look directly into his eyes waiting for his response.

“Yes Bay, you’re stuck with me no matter what.” He leaned forward and kissed her lips lightly. She immediately pulled herself into him, clinging to him as if her life depended on it. “Please tell me where all this is coming from.” He kissed the top of her head.

“I tried Tyler, I really did think about it, but I just can’t do it! The thought of leavin you is killin me! I love my family and I know this is probably wrong for me to say, but I think I love you more. My family needs me right now, but I can’t live without you. God, I’m such a horrible person! She buried her face into his chest and started crying again.

Tyler gently lifted her chin so she could see him as he spoke. “Bay, you are the most generous, sweetest, and unselfish person I know. Your family loves you and knows that you love them too. You are doing everything you can to help your family and they know that. You don’t have to move back home to prove you love them and they don’t expect you too.”

“That’s not true, Becca said” Tyler put his hand to her lips stopping her mid sentence.

“Your know your sister is a drama queen and tends to exaggerate things. Do not let her get in your head and make you think you aren’t doing all you can for your family! Bay, you’ve been going above and beyond to make sure your parents are getting the best care. As much as I wish you could, there’s nothing you can do to change your dad’s prognosis. Moving home will just make it harder on you and more challenging for you to continue giving as much support as you have been because your support system is here. Your dad and Michael even told me how glad they are that you are here and have such great friends to be there for you. I promise you they haven’t been lying to you and don’t want you to move home.”

“They told you that? When?”

“During my last visit with your dad at the hospital while you were at a doctor’s appointment with your mom. They know you are happy and have a good life here. They asked me to watch out for you and take care of you. I promised them I would and that’s a promise I’ll never break! Bay, you tell your patient’s parents all the time that they have to take care of themselves or they won’t be able to fully help their child. That applies to you too; it doesn’t mean you’re selfish.”

“I know you’re right, but it’s just so hard being so far away.”

He kissed her forehead. “I know it’s not the same, but have you FaceTimed your family recently?”

“No, I didn’t even think about that. That’s a great idea, if I can see them I’ll be able to really tell how they are doin and if they’ve been lyin.” She gave Tyler a quick peck on the lips. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Bay, if you still feel like you need to go home, how about starting with a weekend visit versus packing up your life and moving. Just say the word and I’ll make sure you get there any time you want.”

“You’re the best! How’d I get so lucky to have you in my life?” She pressed her lips to his and pulled herself even closer into his chest.

“If anyone’s lucky, it’s me.” He gave her a gentle kiss. “Just promise me, next time you’ll tell me what’s going on so I can help you see reason before you work yourself into a tizzy!”

“I promise.” She gave him another kiss. “I’m sorry I’ve been such a mess lately. I wanted to tell you, but I really needed to figure out what my heart was tellin me to do. I knew if you told me not to go, I wouldn’t be able to say no. I should have known that was my answer right there, but Becca just wouldn’t let up.” She took a deep breath and sighed. “Tyler, I’m sorry for bein such an idiot!”

Tyler pulled Bailey into his chest for a warm embrace. “You’re not an idiot; you just have a very big heart, but I’m glad you’ve come to your senses. I don’t ever want to hear your thinking about moving again, unless it’s to move in with me! ”

Bailey giggled into his chest. “Deal. I love you Tyler.”

“I love you too Bay. How about we spend tomorrow focusing on us?”

“That sounds perfect. Tyler, I know you have to go, but do you think you could just hold me until I fall asleep.”

“Of course.” He stared into her big beautiful hazel eyes, which were filled with warmth. She wrapped her arms around his neck and her fingers started to play with his hair. Tyler tucked a long strand of her hair behind her ear and lifted her chin up. He traced her bottom lip with his thumb before kissing her. He gradually rolled onto his back, pulling Bailey close into his side, and kissing the top of her head. “Sweet Dreams Bay.”
*************************************************************************************************************
Bailey woke up the next morning feeling well rested for the first time in several days. She did a quick stretch before hopping out of her bed and heading to the kitchen to get a bite to eat.

“Well someone’s in a chipper mood this morning. It’s nice to see you smiling again.”

“I’m sorry I’ve been such a party poop lately, but you’ll be happy to know I talked to Tyler last night and I’ve decided to stay.”

Christina ran over to Bailey and pulled her into a hug. “Finally! Glad he talked some sense into you. Tell Tyler to get his ass up so you can join us for lunch and a movie.”

“No can do but thanks for the invite. He’s at practice and then we’re going to spend the day together, just the two of us.” Bailey couldn’t hide her excitement. “I’m kind of hopin he’ll plan one of his special dates for us.” She giddily skipped over to the fridge and pulled out the orange juice, a Greek yogurt, and some blueberries.

“I’m sure whatever Tyler has up his sleeve, you’ll love it. If you think of it, while you’re on your date could you tell him to give Freddy a few tips to spice up some of our dates.”

“I’m sitting right here you know, and for the record I can be just as romantic and creative as Tyler. Remember I wrote you a love song not too long ago. Not to mention I helped him plan our double dates that you both loved.”

Christina plopped down on the couch next to Freddy and gave him a quick peck on the cheek and pat his chest. “You’re right; I’m sorry for not giving you more credit.”

“Thank you. So Bailey, since I apparently need to get more crafty, what’s been your favorite date with Tyler?”

“They’ve all been wonderful, but my favorite has to be when he took me to the aquarium. There were so many surprises that night and he made me feel so special! It’s definitely a night I’ll never forget. Ooh speak of the devil.” Bailey squealed and grabbed her phone when it chimed indicating she had a text from Tyler. After reading the text she immediately dialed his number.

“Hey Bay.”

“Are you ok?”

“Yeah, why?”

“You just sent me a text saying you need to meet with the trainer. Did you get hurt during practice?”

“No, No. I’m sorry I didn’t mean to worry you. I’m fine it’s just my hip is feeling tight again, so I wanted them to work on it a bit that’s all. I promise it’s not a big deal.” Tyler was going to thank Marchy for the cover story later; otherwise he might have just blown everything.

“You sure? I mean if it’s sore, we can just hang out at your place and watch some movies or somethin.” She paused for a moment then whispered, “I can give you a massage later, if you’d be up for it.”

Tyler chuckled, knowing darn well that Bailey was blushing furiously and probably biting her bottom lip. “Bay, you know I’m always up for your massages, but I’m going to take a rain check since I have a very special day planned for us.”

“Its really not a big deal Tyler, we can postpone and I can take care of you if you, if you need rest.”

“I swear I’m fine and we are definitely not postponing! I have to get back to practice, so back to the reason I sent the text. Can you be at TD Garden in an hour?”

“I’ll be there with bells on.”

“Great, oh and Bay make sure you wear comfy shoes because you’ll be walking around a bit ok?”

“You got it. See you soon.”

“Bye Bay.”

“Bye Tyler; love you.”

“Massages huh” Christina couldn’t resist chirping Bailey causing Bailey’s cheeks to flush again.

“What? His hip hurts.”

“Mmm hmm. Whatever you say.”

Bailey grabbed her yogurt and juice, walked over to the couch, and sat down on the other side of Freddy. “Any chance you could drop me off at TD Garden before y’all go to the movies.”

“Sure.”

“Do I have time to take a quick shower?”

“You’re fine; finish your breakfast and then take a shower. We’ll head out as soon as you’re ready.”

Bailey leaned over and gave Freddy a peck on the cheek. “You’re the best!”

Bailey quickly inhaled the yogurt and juice before running to take a shower. She decided to wear her light pink jeans with a white tank top, gray sweater, and gray converse tennis shoes. She pulled her hair into a loose side braid. Her make-up was very light and natural as she only used a little concealer under her eyes, some powder, and pink lip-gloss. As soon as she was ready, she danced into the living room letting Freddy and Christina know they could head out. Freddy and Christina dropped her off at the back entrance near the player’s parking lot 20 minutes later.

“Hey Hank, Tyler asked me to meet him here. Would you please let me in?” Bailey replied to the security guard after she pushed the buzzer and he told her hello.

“Sure thing Bailey, come on in.”

“Thanks Hank. Hope you have a great day.” Bailey entered the arena and headed towards the Bruins locker room. Along the way she ran into her friend. “Hey Jessica, I didn’t expect to see you here on a Saturday.” She pulled her friend into a hug.

“Just finishing some last minute things for a special activity. What brings you by this morning?”

"Tyler asked me to meet him here; he should be finished with the trainer by now. Can you show me where the trainer's room is?"

"Sure, follow me. So what will you and Tyler be up to today?"

"He wouldn't tell me, so I have no frickin clue. All he said was we'd spend the day focusing on our relationship."

"Do you like surprises?"

"Not typically, but I love his! He's always so creative and makes me feel special! Can't wait to see what he's got in store for me today!!!"

"You're so cute when you're gushing about Tyler! I'm so glad things are going so well between the two of you. You deserve nothing but the best and I'm pretty sure Tyler's going to make sure you get it."

"Aww thanks Jess, that means a lot to me."

"Here we are." Jessica opened the door to the training room, only to find the lights off and the room empty. "Well, I don't think he's here. Are you sure he said meet him here?"

"He told me his hip was bothering him so he was going to see the trainer after practice and asked me to meet him here. Maybe he just meant the Garden and not necessarily the trainer's room. Guess I can check the locker room."

"I'll come with you." When they reached the locker room, Jessica knocked on the door. The girls heard Adam Maquaid holler to come in.

"Hey Bailey, Jessica, what brings you here?"

"Hey Adam, we're looking for Tyler. He asked me to meet him here."

"Oh, check on the ice; I think he and Bergy are still out there."

"Great, thanks Adam. I'll see you Monday night. Enjoy your weekend.”

Bailey and Jessica headed towards the ice, where they saw Bergy practicing his slapshot, but no sign of Tyler anywhere. Jessica got Bergy's attention and waved him over.

"Hey guys what's up? I didn't forget a meeting with you did I?"

"No, no Patrice, I'm just trying to find Tyler and Jessica's keeping me company. Have you seen him?"

"Sorry, Bailey but you just missed Tyler, but he did ask me to give you something if I saw you. Hold on a sec." He skated over to the Bruins bench.

"What the heck? I don't understand why he'd tell me to meet him here if he wasn't going to wait for me. Why didn't he just call me?" Bailey pulled out her phone to call Tyler, but Jessica stopped her and told her to look up. She was surprised to see Bergy standing there with a beautiful bouquet of salmon colored roses and a letter.

"Tyler said he's sorry and if you read the note he hopes it will help clear everything up." Bailey noticed he had a large smile across his face as he handed her the envelope from Tyler.

"Bay, I hope you aren't too mad at me. I would love to be there to see your face as you read this, but I have some more errands to run. Just know I love you and will see you soon.

I promised today would be all about us, so I thought it would be fun to reminisce about our journey together. I couldn't think of a better place to start than at the TD. Garden, since this is where it all began. Salmon colored roses represents desire, enthusiasm, and excitement all things I’ve experienced and witnessed here with you. There are two dozen of them which I’m told means I can’t get you off my mind, which is so fitting for the way I feel about you.
I would never wish for one of my teammates and certainly not my liney Bergy to get hurt, but if he hadn't gotten injured in the game against the Rangers I never would have met you or the Marino's. I will always be indebted to Bergy and Jessica for asking me to cover for him that night. That night and then again during the Summer Games I saw the passion you have for your job and helping the families you work with. It’s so amazing to watch how much happiness you bring into their lives despite the challenges they face every day. I’m in awe of you every time I see you with a patient or their family. You have such an incredible gift and ability to brighten anyone’s day.
I must admit your dedication to your job was not the first thing I noticed. You are so damn beautiful and that southern drawl of yours is damn sexy! As soon as I heard it, I wanted you! That night was also the first time I saw you blush and that made me even crazier. Then add the fact you actually turned me down which was shocking and quite refreshing, it was all such a turn on like I’d never experienced before. I was determined to change your mind about me. Thank God, you are the most generous woman I've ever met and have such a warm and forgiving heart you gave me a second chance!!
We've shared so many special moments here, from the first time I met you, the summer Games, the night I introduced my foundation, and one of my favorites the holiday party. It was so much fun watching you experience the joy I get each time I take the ice. I know how scared you were, which is why it meant even more that you trusted me enough to help you. I will never forget the expression on your face when you skated by yourself into my arms. I hope I can bring that kind of happiness into your life for years to come!
Bay, you are not only my lucky charm, but also the entire team’s. They all know how special you are and remind me on a regular basis that I'm one lucky son of a bitch because you chose me, and no matter how stupid I am, you still love me! Bailey you not only make me a better player, but a better man.

There's nothing as sweet as you, but head to the place that helps give us a little fix and has always been a great place for us to get the conversation flowing and build our friendship. See you soon!

With all my love,
Tyler"

The tears were streaming down Bailey's cheeks by the time she read the last words. She smiled as she put the note back in the envelope and put it in her purse. She enveloped Patrice and then Jessica in a hug. “Thank you! I love y’all so much!” She wiped away the tears with the back of her hand and sniffled a few times before speaking again. “I have to run, but I promise we’ll catch up soon Jessica. I’ll see both of y’all Monday night. Thank you again!! Bye.” Jessica and Patrice waved and told her goodbye and wished her good luck in finding Tyler.

Bailey immediately knew Tyler was referring to the Dunkin Donuts they had spent countless hours in together and headed in that direction. She opened the door and scanned the room. She didn’t find Tyler, but she did notice another familiar face and headed in his direction.

“Hey Brad, have you seen Tyler?”

“Good to see you too Bailey.”

Bailey giggled and pulled Brad in for a hug. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be rude. Its just Tyler did somethin really sweet and I can’t wait to see him to thank him!”

“It’s ok Bailey, I know why you’re here, but I hate to tell you but you’re a little too late because Tyler already left. He did however ask me to give this to you.”

The smile on Bailey’s face grew even larger when he handed her a yellow rose and a note before he told her he had to run. She gave him a quick peck on the cheek and thanked him. She didn’t waste another minute and opened the folded piece of paper.

"Yellow roses represent friendship and I feel like this is the place you first started opening up to me, we began to learn about each other, and became friends. The yellow rose also means there is a determination to mend things and start fresh if there’s been a misunderstanding. Lord knows I’ve made my fair share of mistakes in this relationship, but thankfully your heart has always been forgiving and willing to give me another chance. It seems like we always ended up here when we needed a fresh start.
I cherish your friendship and love that I can tell you anything without fear of judgment. I can always count on you to give me your honest opinion versus just telling me what you think I want to hear. I trust you with all my heart, body, mind, and soul! I know it hasn’t always been easy for you to trust me and feel comfortable opening up completely, but I’m glad that, that is changing and everyday we grow closer to each other. I want you to always feel safe with me and know there is nothing I wouldn’t do for you!

Now head outside and you’ll find your ride to the next trip down memory lane."

Bailey couldn’t wait to find out where she was going next as she headed out the door. Once outside she scanned around trying to find her ride. She looked confused when she didn’t see anyone standing near the door waiting for her. She reread the note, and then checked her phone to see if there was a clue she missed as to whom she should look for. When she didn’t see anything, she took another quick look around and noticed Brad leaning on his jeep, playing on his phone.

“Excuse me Brad, sorry to...”

“I’m sorry Miss, I think you have me confused for someone else.” Brad cut Bailey off mid sentence.

“What the Devil are you talkin about Brad?”

“Sorry Miss, but the name’s Geeves, not Brad.” He pulled a chauffer’s hat out from under the jacket on the hood of his jeep. He then put on his jacket and picked up a piece of cardstock that had “Miss Bailey Thomas” written on it and held it in front of his chest like chauffeurs do at airports.

Bailey couldn’t help but giggle at the extra effort Brad and Tyler were putting in, to make this very special. She recalled how Brad called himself Geeves when he and Tyler helped her after the Summer Games. She was surprised that Tyler remembered and was attending to so much detail.

“It’s nice to see you again Geeves, I’m Bailey and I guess you’re my ride.”

“You remember, so good to see you again too. Right this way mam.” He opened the backseat door to his jeep and held his hand out to help Bailey in, which again resulted in a fit of giggles from her. Once Brad was behind the wheel and started the car, he handed Bailey a frozen strawberry lemonade and another note. “A light refreshment Mr. Seguin thought you’d enjoy Miss.”

“Thank you!” Bailey was completely dumbfounded at yet another detail Tyler recalled before reading the new note.

"I’m sure you’ve realized by now that I’m sending you on a scavenger hunt. I hope you have as much fun figuring out the clues and reminiscing as I had making them. Now problem solve them quickly because I can’t wait to see you!!

“She came along and she spoke so sweetly
Changed everything, took my heart completely
I, I love that girl”

These are just some of the lyrics that wrung so true on the special night where you finally broke down and gave me your number. Go to the place where I first discovered what is now our song."

“Where to Miss?”

“The House of Blues and please step on it Geeves!”

“No can do Miss Thomas. I promised Mr. Seguin I’d get his precious cargo everywhere we go safely. So just sit back and relax and we’ll be there before you know it.”

Bailey loved how serious Brad was taking his role as her chauffer and found him absolutely adorable. The term of endearment she used for Tyler and joked was in reference to Brad didn’t slip past her either.

As soon as Brad parked the car, Bailey jumped out in a flash and ran to the doors of the House of Blues. When she entered the building “Endlessly”, The GRO song Tyler referenced was playing in the background. She scanned the room and found Freddy and Steven sitting in the same booth Bailey shared with Tyler, Freddy, and Emily at the first concert they attended together.

“Hey y’all, I’m guessing Tyler isn’t here but he left somethin for me?” Before the boys could respond, Bailey had an aha moment. “Wait a dang minute! Freddy, you’ve been in on this all along, yet you let me be a babblin idiot this mornin, goin on an on about my favorite dates with Tyler. You and Christina must have had a good laugh! I can’t believe y’all didn’t even give me a tiny hint about Tyler’s plan.”

Freddy chuckled before he responded. “Bailey I love you dearly, but I value my life more. If I gave you any inkling to what he had planned in the very least I would be homeless after today or more likely dead. All I can tell you is to just take it all in and enjoy the day because you’re just getting started.” He pulled Bailey in for a hug and gave her a peck on the cheek. “Now I believe Steven and I do in fact have something you were looking for.” He reached down in the booth and picked up three beautiful lavender roses and handed it to Bailey and Steven passed her another envelope.

The boys couldn’t help but laugh at how giddy yet focused Bailey became as she read Tyler’s next clue.

"Lavender roses show a sign of enchantment and love at first sight. They also represent wonder and impossibility so I thought it was the perfect fit to represent our first concert together. I don't think I ever told you this, but it was no coincidence that Freddy and I were at the concert that night. I took a note from Marchy by becoming a complete pest to Jessica, begging her for your number. Despite my efforts she never did give in. Finally, after agreeing to basically be her indentured servant when it came to Bruin's events I finally broke her down and convinced her to at least give me your Twitter name. As soon as she gave it to me I basically stalked your account to gain any information I could about you. You posted about going to the concert so I roped Freddy into being my wingman and cover. I wasn’t about to miss an opportunity to see you again and finally get your number. I’ve never worked so hard or had the desire to work so hard to see a girl again, let alone get her to like me, but you were so worth it!! Honestly Bay, as I listened to the lyrics to Endlessly I kind of knew I was already falling in love with you and the three roses symbolize that notion.

Now you know when I first fell in love with you so lets move on and reminisce about another fun night. It’s when we had our first hug, our first little fight, and I learned you could pack quite a punch. "

Bailey giggled at Tyler’s clue, before returning it to the envelope and putting it in her purse. She gave Freddy and Steven a quick hug before she headed back to Brad’s jeep and told him to head to the movie theater. She was greeted by Katie and her husband Greg outside the theater.

“Hey y’all, do you have a surprise for me?”

“We sure do!” Katie pulled Bailey in for a hug before Greg handed her six light pink roses and an envelope.

"Bay, six roses mean I’m devoted to you and I want to be yours. The light pink color may be my favorite because it reminds me of you the most. You are sweet, innocent, shy, and still a ton of fun. This hue resembles the color your cheeks often glow. According to the florist, light pink roses indicate an affection that may turn into deeper love. An innocent love that hasn’t blossomed into a deep passion, a sense of harmony and warmth, as well as happiness. I think this fits our first trip to the movies perfectly. I will never forget how happy you made me feel when you arrived and pulled me into one of the best hugs I’ve ever had. You are radiant and whenever I’m with you I feel so much warmth and love I can’t help but be happy. There is a positive energy about you that is contagious and helps anyone around you feel at ease. My teammates and friends sense it too. There’s just something about you that helps me relax, that’s why I and now my team needs you at our games.
You were so cute when you got a riled up when I tried to pay for the concessions it made you even more endearing to me. I loved seeing that feisty side of you and then when you were embarrassed and apologized, it only confirmed how genuinely sweet you truly are. Despite the punch to my nose, I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed going to the movies more than I did that night. Nothing beats you snuggling in close to me! I can’t describe how wonderful it was that you sought comfort from me. I hope you know I’ll always be there to protect you and will do anything to give you the same happiness and joy that you bring me!
This may seem strange, but I’m grateful to the idiot who threw something at us and scared you to death. I got to experience your compassion first hand when you were more concerned for me than how embarrassed you felt. Your touch was so gentle and loving. The incident also allowed me another opportunity to wrap my arms around you and that’s something I can never get enough of! You also showed me how strong you were, and I’m not referring to you almost breaking my nose. You were able to move past that and took the time to start getting to know some of my friends and even me better. You won everyone over that night.

Time for another clue: Thunderstorms, snakes, and evil mother-in-laws put a damper on our almost first kiss, but our first picnic was pure bliss!"

Bailey literally jumped with excitement knowing she was headed to one of her favorite places in all of Boston. She quickly said thank you and her goodbyes to Katie and Greg before hurrying off to Brad’s jeep and asking him to drive to the esplanade. Bailey hopped out of the car, with Brad trailing close behind. As soon as they crossed the street and were on the footbridge, she took off running, catching Brad by complete surprise. He began regretting he opted to really play up his chauffer role because it wasn’t very comfortable running in his dress shoes. He wondered if Bailey’s little legs were always that fast or if it was an adrenalin rush from the anticipation of what Tyler was going to do next.

When Bailey rounded the corner by the playground she saw a Bruin’s blanket on the ground. Next thing she knew, Andrew’s little girls attacked her. They hugged her, and then grabbed her hands, pulling her towards the blanket and their dad.

“Hi Bailey. Have you been enjoying your little adventure?”

“Are you kiddin me Andrew? I haven’t had this much fun in a long time! Tyler’s so sweet, I still can’t believe he’s doin all this for me!”

“That’s cause he LOOOOVES you!” Stella teased followed by making kissing sounds and a kissy face, and then giggling with her sister.

“She’s right you know. He loves you more than anything or anyone.” Andrew presented Bailey with her next message and a single red rose bud.

"Bay this single rose bud represents the beginning of our relationship and new love. It’s a small, natural yet perfect example of beauty just like you. I couldn’t think of a better location to give it to you than your favorite place in Boston. Our first date here was perfect, torrential downpour and all. You once told me, you find this place comforting and it brings back great childhood memories. I hope you now find comfort with me and we will share a lifetime of wonderful memories together!

You are one of only two I’ve shared this secret with, thought it might be time to give your belly a little lift as there’s still more to come before we can kiss. Now hurry on your way because I’m missing those sweet, sexy lips!"

Bailey thanked and hugged Andrew and his daughters for helping Tyler with his plan. She then grabbed Brad’s hand and took off running catching Brad by surprise yet again. Andrew couldn’t resist and captured the hilarious moment on his camera and sent the video off to Tyler and the rest of the guys on the team.

Brad was thankful that Tyler had the forethought to build in a lunch break into his special day for Bailey. He had no idea he would get a little workout trying to keep up with her. When they reached their destination, Momma Rosa immediately engulfed Bailey in a hug, followed by pinching Brad’s cheeks.

“I’m so glad you’re here! Tyler had me prepare something special for you Bailey. Now take a seat over there and I’ll bring it right out to you. Brad would you like your usual?”

“You know it!”

“What you looking for?” Brad asked as he noticed Bailey scanning the dining room.

“I’m looking for my next clue and I don’t see anyone else that we know.”

“Bailey, didn’t Tyler tell you that we are the only two people he’s told about this place? Do you really think he’d change that now?”

“No I guess not. So do you have my next clue?”

“Nope, but I promise it’s here. You won’t get it until after you eat your lunch though, and don’t even think about just taking a few bites. You know Momma Rosa would never allow that and I’m certainly not moving until I finish all of mine. So you might as well just relax and enjoy the delicious meal we’re about to have.”

Although she was a little disappointed, she knew Brad was right. Her stomach was also letting her know eating was a good idea and she knew one bite was never enough of Momma Rosa’s cooking. Momma Rosa soon placed a bowl of chicken and wild rice soup and some homemade challah bread in front of Bailey, a large bowl of minestrone soup, grilled chicken and some penne pasta in front of Brad. Once they finished their delicious meal, a bus boy cleared the table and Momma Rosa brought out a pair of cannoli. Bailey noticed the cream in the one directly in front of her had been piped in to resemble a rose growing out of the end.

“AWW, it’s beautiful! It almost looks too good to eat.”

“I insist you eat it or I refuse to give you your next clue.” Momma Rosa gave Bailey a stern look.

“No worries! I said almost, I’m not about to turn this delectable treat down. I just wish Tyler was here to share it with me.”

“I thought you might feel that way, so I’ve packed up some you can take home to enjoy with him.”

“Thank you; you’re the best!!”

“Enough chit chat, now you eat!”

After eating half of her cannoli, she was stuffed and let Brad finish it. Momma Rosa then came over with a lovely bouquet of one dozen yellow roses with red tips and an envelope. Bailey squealed with delight and pulled Momma Rosa in for a bear hug.

"Bay, this bouquet of sun-filled blossoms conveys warmth, gladness, and affection. They represent a special friendship and falling in love. The first day I brought you here was part of one the best and scariest times in my life. I’ve never been more frightened and worried than the night that scumbag drugged you! Seeing you so weak and frail was difficult to watch, but I loved that you allowed me to take care of you. Our first of many visits to Momma Rosa’s was just another wonderful afternoon with you. I felt we grew even closer, but afterwards, you my stubborn girl got nervous and started putting up your wall again. Thank heavens the wall quickly crumbled and we finally shared our first and might I say the most passionate and amazing first kiss I’ve ever had in my life1! It was a long time coming and a day and a very special kiss that I’ll never forget. It’s the day you finally became my sweetheart, which is why I’m giving you a dozen of these roses.

Now for your next rendezvous you’re headed to see a few of our special friends, even though I know at least one has a “Crush” on you. Since I can’t be there just remember I’m still the better kisser!"

“Shake a tail feather Brad ‘cause we’re headin to the aquarium.” Before they could get out the door, Momma Rosa handed Brad a bag of food for Tyler and Bailey as well as one for him to take home. She clearly marked the bags and said it was very important not to get them mixed up. “Thank you! We’ll come back to see you soon.” Bailey waved as she exited the restaurant.

Bailey was relieved that Brad seamed to have a plan when they arrived at the busy aquarium. He went to the information desk and next thing she knew Steve appeared and escorted them to her to the harbor seals. She was immediately greeted with a kiss on the cheek from one of them causing her to burst into a fit of giggles. To her surprise she heard an all to familiar little giggle laughing right along with her.

“OOOOOH, I’m gonna tell Mr. Tyler on you Ms. Bailey!” Alexis barely chuckled out.

“Can we just keep this between us? I mean I wouldn’t want Tyler to hurt this sweet seal, would you?” Bailey joked back.

“I’ll let it slide this time, but don’t let me catch you kissing anybody but Mr. Tyler again!”

“Thank you for bein so understandin! I promise I won’t let you down.” She got down on eye level with Alexis and gave her a hug.

“Ok you two, Bailey has a schedule to keep so we need to get her to her next clue.”

Bailey’s face lit up as soon as Mr. Marino mentioned a clue. “Alexis, do you have a clue for me from Tyler?”

“Sorry Ms. Bailey, I don’t have it, but I think I know where we can find it.”

Bailey twitched her lips and looked at Alexis quizzically. “He didn’t give it to you?”

“Nope, but he gave me my own clue so I could help you.”

“Well what did it say?”

“He said you’re his one and only and I should take you to find the cute little animals who also stick with their soulmates and are always dressed to impress in their tuxedos. So of course we’re going to go find the penguins.”

Bailey’ didn’t think it was possible, but the grin across her face grew even more at Tyler’s analogy. “Wow! I’m impressed you figured that out so easily.”

“Well, he kind of gave me another clue just in case. He said that you and I made him super happy when we danced at the Summer Games that it reminded him of one of his favorite movies, “Happy Feet. He made it way too easy with that clue!”

“Regardless, I’m still impressed. Alexis, lead the way I think we have a date with some penguins.”

Bailey followed Alexis and Steve to the little backroom where she and Tyler got to hold and feed baby Murphy on their first date. She was really touched Tyler chose Alexis and her dad to be part of this special day, knowing how much they meant to her an now him. Bailey could tell how much thought he put behind who was meeting her along the way; allowing Alexis to experience the special behind the scenes experiences of the aquarium was endearing knowing she’d appreciate and enjoy it more than anyone else. She wasn’t exactly sure what Tyler had in store for them, but she knew it would be memorable; Bailey just wished he could be there to experience it with them. Of course they weren’t disappointed when they each had a chance to hold and feed a baby penguin. After they each had a turn, Steve presented Alexis with a giant stuffed penguin and whispered something in her ear.

“Ms. Bailey, Tyler gave me this since I solved the clue, but he said he has something for you.” Alexis held her new toy towards Bailey. “Look at his neck.”

Bailey noticed an envelope tied around his neck underneath the big red bowtie. She became giddy as she untied and opened it. Alexis’ dad also handed her one peach colored rose.

"You embody the meaning of this peach colored delicate and charming rose. It expresses sincerity, grace, and breathtaking beauty, all while being a symbol of harmony, peace, and great cheer. It also exemplifies purity and innocence. Bay, you have no idea how stunningly beautiful you are and I’m not just referring to your outward appearance. You have the biggest heart of anyone I know. The way you carry yourself with such grace is so welcoming and charming. You always put the needs of others ahead of yourself. I know that everything you do and say is done with a genuinely pure heart and I love that!
You have an incredible gift that I’ve had the pleasure to see you share with all the patients and families you work with. You bring them comfort and often great joy! If it wasn’t for you I never would have met the Marinos and I will forever be indebted to you for bringing them into my life. I’ve truly learned to appreciate all the amazing things in my life and have become a better man because of them and you. Without you, there would be no Seguin’s Stars to provide support to other families in need. You are an extraordinary woman that has the unique ability to bring out the best in everyone around you.
I know it doesn’t always seem this way, but I love that you hold true to your convictions and haven’t compromised your values just to please me or anyone else. It makes every “first” that we share even more special because I know you don’t just give away those to just anybody. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that you love me and chose me to share these moments with. I cherish every moment I get to spend with you. You are my one and only love, my true love!

You make me laugh, you make me smile, and God knows you can melt hearts for miles. You are most definitely sweet, but when you’re silly that’s a very special treat! Go to the place “where a kid can be a kid”. You’ll receive a challenge that I know you’ll slay, just know I didn’t give away how good you can play!"

There was no doubt that Tyler was sending Bailey to her old haunting ground Chuck E Cheese. She’d never been there in Boston, but figured if there’s several he’d let Brad know which one. When they arrived, Brad followed closely behind Bailey as she quickly walked around the entertainment facility in search of her next clue. She soon spotted two very large men in the game room. There was no doubt that it was Tyler's teammates Dougie and Adam. The men were engrossed in a game of “Whack-A Munch” and didn't notice she'd found them until she tapped Dougie on his shoulder.

"Oh hey Bailey! Have you been having fun?"

"Absolutely! I'm guessing y'all are helpin Tyler and have my next clue?"

"We do, but I'm not sure why, but we're under strict instructions that we have to play you in a round of skee ball before we can give it to you."

"Seriously?" The men nodded. "Ok, let's get this show on the road."

"Don’t worry, we'll take it easy on you Bailey." Adam gave bailey a comforting pat on her shoulders.

"That won’t be necessary, pretty sure I can take y’all!”

"Ooh that sounds like a challenge; I want in too!" Marchy chimed in.

"Ok, don't say I didn't warn you."

"I love it when you get feisty! You realize Tyler isn't here to help you or wipe your tears after we crush you." Marchy chirped.

Bailey smiled and pat Brad's chest. "I think I'll be ok."

"Are you two done or are you ready to play?"

"Bring it!" Bailey added as she skipped towards a skee ball lane and put in the token Dougie just gave her.

"What the Hell? That can't be right, there's no fucking way you beat all three of us by that much!"

"Face it Brad I beat y'all fair and square. I'm just better than y'all."

"I was just warming up, you have to give me at least one more chance to beat you!" Marchy clasped his hands together in a praying motion and begged Bailey for another chance after she had beaten him so badly.

She couldn't refuse Brad's puppy dog pouty face and laughed before giving in. "Fine, I'll play two more rounds, but then I want my clue!"

"Deal!"

After 3 rounds, none of them beat her; Adam came the closest but she still won by over 250 points.

"Damn girl, you're good! I think Tyler hustled us. He knew you'd beat us didn't he?" Adam shook his head in disbelief when Bailey tilted her head and gave him a wink with the most infectious shit-eating grin he’d ever seen and handed her an envelope. "Here, you definitely earned this. Dougie, give her the roses" Dougie held out nine gorgeous and unusual blue colored roses towards her.

"Blue roses are very rare and represent mystery and the excitement of new opportunities/possibilities. Bay, you are a wonderful yet inexplicable mystery to me. Every day I wonder why you picked me and how I got so lucky to be loved by you! Every time I screw-up, you still open your heart back up to me and give me another chance and for that I’m so grateful! You aren’t like any woman I’ve ever met and are constantly surprising me. I brought you to Chuck E. Cheese because it reminded me of our date to the Billings Farms. I got to see so many of the beautiful sides of you that day. Although, I hated seeing you get hurt, I loved that you were determined to get up that mountain. I loved seeing your feisty and fun side as you hustled me at skee ball. You had me in complete awe by miraculously setting my mind at ease on the Ferris wheel. I also got to see your vulnerable side again on that stupid haunted hayride.
This rose is also about flight of fancy and an irrepressible imagination, which reminds me of the time, we spent in Georgia with your nieces. Who knew dress-up and storytime could be so much fun? I can’t remember a time I laughed as hard or as much as I did during the time we spent together entertaining Sarah Kate, which of course included you indulging us with playtime at Chuck E. Cheese. I loved that you didn’t care about being silly in front of me. You’re a natural with kids and it was beautiful watching you at work.

Bay, I don’t know what life has in store for us, But I’m excited and look forward to spending every day with you and exploring all the possibilities because as long as we’re together I know it will be fantastic. Please take these nine blue roses that symbolize our everlasting love and lets you know I think you’re extraordinarily wonderful!

Since the day we met, you've been full of wonderful surprises, so I can't resist any chance I get to give some of that back to you. Although this was meant to be for you, I think I was ultimately the one who got to reap the best benefits of this surprise thanks to my señorita bonita!"

Bailey's cheeks flushed as she recalled some of their more intimate moments from the dance lessons they took together and told Brad where to drive. She was almost certain this would be where she'd finally meet up with Tyler; after all she couldn't dance without her partner. She couldn't imagine whom he would pick to meet her at that location since it was truly something intimate they shared and she figured nobody else would be interested in going there.

Bailey hopped out of the car and was surprised when Brad got out and followed her to the studio. "You're comin with me?"

"I'm under strict orders to escort you each time and report back to Tyler on our status. Haven't you noticed I've been tagging along all day?"

Bailey scrunched her nose and twitched her lips slightly in confusion. "I have, but I just assumed this is where I'd finally meet up with Tyler and wouldn't need your services anymore. Guess I was wrong."

"Only one way to find out." He opened the door and held out his arm directing Bailey to enter.

Bailey and Brad walked back towards the small studio where she and Tyler had their lessons. They were both shocked to see Brittany and her husband Milan dancing, well attempting to dance. Brad and Bailey couldn't hold back their laughter as they watched Looch stumble over his own feet multiple times.

"Oh man, wait until the guys see this!" Brad snapped a few quick photos and got a short video before Looch and Brittany finally noticed them.

"Marchy I swear to God if you value your life you will not tell anyone about this!!" Looch gave him a menacing glance typically reserved for someone on an opposing team during a game.

"Sorry man, but your a little too late. This was just too good to resist!!"

"Ugh! I told you nothing good could come of this!"

Brittany gave her husband a quick peck on the lips. "Stop your pouting! I'm loving this and I promise I'll make it worth your while later. You'll be thanking Tyler and me for this opportunity!" She gave him a wink and pat his chest, before taking his hand and walking towards their belongings. She picked up an envelope and Looch picked up a single orange rose.

"Bay orange roses represent passion, energy, and desire! I never knew dancing could be so intimate and fun. I guess I never had the right partner until I met you. Our bodies just seem to mold well together, it's like they were made for each other. I want to be your dance partner through life!

Of all the "firsts" we've shared I think this is my favorite because I honestly thought it would never happen. When it did it was like nothing I've ever experienced or imagined. Bay go to where you made me see fireworks!"

"Brad take me home! I don't care what Tyler told you, put the petal to the metal and step on it!

"Yes mam!" Brad laughed and sped off.

Once they reached her apartment complex Bailey took off and ran up all three flights of stairs to her apartment with all of her roses in hand. Brad did his best to keep up while capturing it on video for Tyler. She unlocked her door and swung it open, running in looking for Tyler.

"Tyler?" She called out as she walked into the kitchen. She smiled when she saw two large vases full of turquoise roses as well as some empty vases on the counter and a note.

"Bay turquoise roses are simply a way to surprise someone. They represent a sense of calm, balance, stability, and peace of mind, which are all things your love brings to me. There are 40 of them to show you my love for you is genuine. Tend to the roses, and then head to your room where another surprise awaits you."

Several thoughts flashed through Bailey's mind causing her to blush, but she realized that if Brad was still there it probably wasn’t one of them. She let out an audible gasp when she opened her bedroom door. Lying on her bed was the most beautiful lavender designer cocktail dress and sparkly peep toed silver with crystal embellishment shoes she'd ever seen. The bracelet and earrings Tyler gave her for Christmas were next to the outfit along with a small silver gift bag with hot pink tissue paper. When she got closer her two best friends jumped out from her closet nearly scaring her half to death as the enveloped her into a group hug.

"Oh my gosh! Did y'all pick this out? It's beautiful!"

"Nope, this is all Tyler's doing. I just helped with the size by giving him the measurements from the last alteration you had done on your bridesmaid dress." Emily said.

"Wow! I can't believe he did all of this. Everything about today has been incredible and now this; I feel like Cinderella!"

"Bailey, that boy is head over heels in love with you and would give you the world if he could!" Christina shook her head at how her friend could still doubt that Tyler would go all out for her.

"And you deserve every bit of this special attention!" Emily added as she passed her the gift bag. "Tyler picked the dress, shoes, and jewelry which match perfectly with the outfit I might add. He's got great taste! Anyways, this is from Christina and I. We thought you might want something special to wear under this gorgeous dress tonight. Hope you like it!"

Bailey hesitantly took the bag and slowly pulled out an elegant lace corset-style backless bra and matching lace panties. "Y'all really shouldn't have, but I'm glad you did. I hope Tyler likes it too!"

"I'm sure he'd like you out of it more, but if you let him see you in it, there's no doubt he'll have a hard time keeping a coherent thought!" Emily pushed Bailey towards her bathroom. "We don't have a ton of time, so take a quick shower than Christina and I will work out magic and turn you into the fairytale princess you were meant to be."

Christina did Bailey's make-up while Emily accentuated the natural waves in Bailey's hair and weaved two small waterfall braids, one on each side that met at the back. She really did look like a princess in the cap sleeve nude bodice with lavender lace and hand sewn beaded embellishments and above the knee length chiffon dress. Emily handed Bailey one last envelope before the girls pulled each other into a group hug.

"Bay, the time has finally come for your final destination. I don't have a castle, but I'll be waiting for you my princess on my rooftop trellis.

All my love,
Tyler"

"I'm ready to go Brad."

Brad stood up from the couch and turned to face the girls. "Fuck Bailey! You look amazing! Tyler's one lucky son of a bitch!!"

Bailey giggled and blushed at his comments. "Thank you. I think I'm pretty lucky too!" She wrapped her pashmina scarf around her shoulders before they left. "Thank you Em and Christina! I'll call you tomorrow to tell you what other surprises Tyler has for me, although I think y'all already know." The girls just smiled and waved goodbye to her knowing Bailey was in for the surprise of her life.

Bailey knocked on Tyler's door, but there was no answer. She used her key to unlock it. She took off her scarf, even though he asked her to meet him on his rooftop deck. She wanted him to see the beautiful dress he picked for her in all its glory. Bailey couldn't believe her eyes when she opened the screen door; the most glorious site she could imagine greeted her. The deck was covered in rose petals, there were twinkling Christmas lights and Chinese lanterns strung all around, as well as several arrangements of her favorite flowers, Gerber daisies in all colors. There were even a few strategically placed electric heaters, which she knew was for her benefit since he never seemed to get cold. Then she saw what she'd been waiting for all day; Tyler was standing in the corner in her favorite gray suit, lavender shirt, and one of his matching hockey fights cancer ties. He looked so handsome, like a prince, her prince she thought. She ran to him, crashing into his strong arms.

"I did it! I finally found you!" She nuzzles into his chest and wrapped her arms even tighter around his waist.

Tyler kissed the top of her head. "Thank God you did!" After enjoying their embrace for several minutes he slowly pulled away. He kept one arm around her waist, but moved the other up to caress her cheek, which Bailey leaned into. "Bay, you look stunning! May I have this dance?”

Of course Bailey said yes and Tyler pulled her in close as they began to sway to the music. They danced to John Legend’s “Stay With You”. The most beautiful smile Tyler had ever seen never left Bailey’s face as they rocked and twirled together. Their song “Endlessly” came on next. Tyler pulled Bailey in even closer to his chest and began singing the lyrics in her ear causing her heart to melt even more for him. When the song ended, he reluctantly pulled away from her, took her hands and guided her towards the ledge of the deck.

“When I look into your eyes I see something magical. I see our love, our future; I see our journey unraveling into a beautiful picture. Bay I see us conquering the world together! You are my best friend, my inspiration, and my strength. You are an angel, my angel and the love of my life! You push me to be better every day. You’ve become my partner in crime for a lifetime and my hero. As long as we’re together, I know everything will be ok.” He pulled a combination of ten red and white roses off the ledge and held them out towards Bailey. “I’m giving you these roses to let you know you are the most important person in my life. The white rose represents your sincerity and purity. They are known as the “flower of light” and you are most definitely the brightest light in my life. The red roses convey my undying devotion and love for you. When given together they signify unity. Bay, throughout the day I’ve been giving you roses to reflect on our love. You now have a total of 108 roses which has a very special and important meaning.” He dropped down onto one knee and pulled out a small black velvet box from his inside coat pocket. His hands and his voice started to tremble slightly as he opened the box to reveal the loveliest engagement ring Bailey had ever seen. He became a bit of a nervous wreck as he stumbled to get out the words he wanted to say. “Bay, from the moment I met you, I knew you were special. My love grows for you every day. I am so grateful that somehow by the love of God, you love me too! I want to spend the rest of my life with you as my companion. I want to not only be a great friend, but I want to be your supportive husband, and someday a committed father to our children. Bailey Marie Thomas, will you do me the honor of being my wife?”

Bailey was completely overcome with joy and shock as she took in the sight before her and all of Tyler’s wonderful words. She could barely speak, but managed to reply with a whispered and tear filled “YES!” Not wanting to take any chances that she’d change her mind, he quickly slid the ring on her finger and picked her up and spun her around as they shared the most loving and passionate kiss imaginable.

Notes

So I know this has been a long time coming; I mentioned in my last post that my mom was sick, well things took a change for the worst and due to hospital negligence she passed away about 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. My family's and my life completely changed and I've been trying to deal with that. I'm slowly starting to get back to my life one day at a time and this story has become a nice distraction for me. Anyways, I made this chapter extra long and I'm already working on the next one. I hope you like it. As always, your feedback is truly appreciated.

FYI- I couldn't figure out how to make Tyler's notes in a different color, font, or stay in obvious italics on here, so I hope it is still clear and easy to follow.
