Be My Baby
Back To Normal
*Patrick’s POV*
The past few months I had been wiped. I was so happy Abby was finally having her baby. Not only would we have a gorgeous baby girl, but I wouldn’t have to work nonstop anymore. Things would go back to normal…well, normal as it gets with a baby in the house. I had just dropped Abby off at the hospital and I was on my home to get my wallet, because when rushing your pregnant wife out of the house, you usually don’t think of taking your wallet. I could barely focus on the road as I rubbed my eyes from exhaustion. “I’m gonna be a dad” I said aloud. I was a nervous shit too. I didn’t show it, but I definitely was. I had never done something like this before, and it was making me a nervous wreck. The past few months I had been very protective of Abby, and I guess that was my ways of letting my nervousness go a little. I know she was annoyed with me most of the time, but half of it was the hormones. When I left the hospital the doctor confirmed she had gone into labor, so I had no time to waste. I could barely focus on anything as I pulled into the driveway of our house.
*Abby’s POV*
I let out a last deep breath as I heard a little scream. My head hit the back of my pillow and I wiped the sweat off my forehead. I opened my eyes to a crying little girl who had small pink blanket wrapped around her. Thank god Patrick got here just in time for the baby being born. I thought he’d miss it. Patrick held the baby tight against his chest as he rocked it back in forth. I smiled watching him sing to the baby as it continued to cry. The doctors had left the room for a few minutes, so it was just me and Pat. He noticed that he was hogging the baby so he brought her over to me. I took the baby into my arms and looked at its pure face. “Abby, who would have imagined that we could create this. I know people say it all the time, but I guess you really don’t appreciate miracles until they actually happen to you” I looked up at Pat who was gleaming at the baby. He was proud. I was proud. We had a new family member. Things were changing for the better, and I was excited for them.
The past 24 hours had been exhausting. Family visits and the baby keeping me busy was just too tiring. I was leaving the hospital tomorrow morning, and I could not wait. I wanted to get home and lie in my own bed and relax. I know that wouldn’t happen for a while, because for god sakes we just had a baby, but a girl can dream can’t she? After Patrick’s side of the family left I thought that was the rest of them. But no, I was wrong. I feel like half the NHL walked into my hospital room. I saw Marchy and Segs and a couple other Bruins, and then basically the whole Hawks team came in. Patrick could tell I wasn’t happy with it all, but I put on a smile and talked to everyone in the room. Arianna was the first to hold the baby. “Oh my gosh, her eyes are gorgeous Ab. They look really blue, even for Pat” I laughed as she passed the baby to Jon. “Yah well I guess it has both our eyes combined if that’s possible” I responded to her. After a while of chatting and talking about the baby, Arianna and Jon admitted to everyone that they were pregnant. I already knew, but the rest of ‘em did not. I was happy for her. Arianna and I becoming moms right around the same time. We had already started planning the play dates already.
Marchy was the last one to hug me as they were leaving. “Take care now babe” he said kissing me on the cheek. “Thanks Brad, I will” He left the room, and Pat sat down next to my stomach. I held the baby as she slept in my arms. “When are we gonna start calling her Amelia instead of the baby” Pat asked jokingly. I rolled my eyes and smirked. “That’s all you can come up with right now?” He made me move over as he climbed into the hospital bed next to me. “Uhh Pat, I don’t know if this is gonna work” I said laughing as we tried to manage to both stay on the bed without falling off. He rubbed the baby’s head as I nurtured it in my arms until I fell asleep.
