Be My Baby
Blonde Hair and Blue Eyes
*Abby’s POV*
Most people who have had a kid have told me to be prepared for raising a baby, it’s a real pain, but I am enjoying it. Pat and I have worked out a system in the past few months that seems to help a lot. I tired as hell most of the time, but it is totally worth it. I love dressing Amelia up, feeding her, playing with her, and watching her sleep. It reminds me of when I was little, playing with my baby dolls. Now this was different, this was life.
Patrick was at practice at the moment, so I was home alone with the baby. Amelia was sleeping, so I had to clean up the house. I know Pat was gonna invite some of the guys over to see the baby, so I needed to get the house presentable. After I finished cleaning the counters, I checked on the baby, and went to change. I heard Amelia start to cry so in my bra and underwear I went to go to her room to see what was the matter. As I was going between the two rooms I stopped in my tracks. I didn’t notice Pat and the guys coming in. At first they didn’t notice me until Shawsy looked up. “Jeez Pat, is this a good time to be here?” he said, cracking up. Pat looked up at me as both our faces turned red. “When I said I was having company over it didn’t mean put on a show for them” I rolled my eyes as my face got a little redder and I went to check on the baby.
By the time I got to her, she was already back asleep. Must have been a bad dream, I thought. I played with her blonde hair and realized something. Pat brought Alex over too. Usually since the whole cheating thing with Alex, he hasn’t been too pleasant to him. Even in games or practices, I noticed Pat wouldn’t give him the time of day, so I was a little confused on why he would bring him here. I haven’t really talked to Alex much either. We kept our distance because we knew it was best.
I pulled one of Pat’s shirts over my head and took the baby in my arms and went into the kitchen. The boys were eating sandwiches and arguing about hockey as I sat down next to Pat. He kissed me on the cheek and continued to eat. I basically sat in silence most of the time, or playing with the baby. I was too tired to entertain and really didn’t care if they had a problem with that.
After they were done eating I made them wash their hands before they got to hold Amelia. Shaw was trying to make her dance in her pink little dress as she started to cry. The look on his face as he tried to get her to stop was priceless. I took her out of his hands and tried to calm her down. I thought everyone had already had a turn with her so I started to get up to put her in her crib. “Wait, I didn’t get to see her” I heard Alex say. I turned around and smiled. “Oh I’m sorry Alex, I thought everyone got to play with her.” I handed him the baby as I sat back in place. I watched the baby laugh as he played with her fingers and made funny dances. I laughed and thought to myself, Damn, Amelia looks more like Alex than Pat. They had the same bright blue eyes, and soft blonde hair. I swallowed hard. Nah, that can’t possibly be his baby. All of a sudden I started to get a little nervous. It can’t be Abby, you’re just tired, and imagining shit. I tried calming myself down but it didn’t work. Now that I think of it, more than enough people had told Pat and I that the baby doesn’t really look like Pat at all. I mean sure it had both blue eyes and blonde hair, but it didn’t look like Pat’s.
I grabbed the baby out of Alex’s hands and apologized. “Sorry Alex, but the baby looks really tired, I’m just gonna take it to bed.” All of them sat there with confused expressions on their faces as I exited the room.
That night, I couldn’t sleep. It wasn’t because of the baby crying, it was because of Alex. What if he was the dad? Amelia was different with him. She was happy, and a natural happy too. Her face immediately lightened up when Alex held her. Even with Pat, Amelia didn’t do that. Well enough was enough, tomorrow I was going to bring Amelia to the doctors to get a DNA testing. I wanted to know who the dad was. I mean, it was probably Pat, but I couldn’t let this go until I knew for sure. And for the rest of the night, I prayed that Pat was the father to our daughter.
