Clumsy Minds

Just a Game

Zoey had never been to an NHL game before, and honestly she didn't even watch any on television until she met Jon. She was seated with one of his friends' girlfriend, a nice girl, very into the game. The young redhead was thankful for that, though, Anna was too busy cheering through the game to engage her in conversation.
That was until the first intermission when Anna finally settled down. "So, how did you meet Jonathan?" The blonde asked Zoey who had been seated awkwardly still for the past twenty minutes while she tried to keep up with the game.
Her big eyes shifted to Anna, almost surprised that she was talking to her. "Oh, at a swimming pool," She admitted, nodding slightly and pressing her lips into a tight smile to portray friendliness. She was a pretty loud and energetic person, but she felt so awkward around Jon's friends, like she was a kid or something.
"That's nice. He's a good guy. And lord knows the boy has millions of girls pining over him!" Anna exclaimed with a honest laugh, nudging Zoey with her elbow slightly.
"Yeah..." Zoey murmured, trying to imitate the chuckle although she was unsure if it was truly a funny statement.
"How long have you been a Blackhawks fan?" It was clear Anna was just trying to play nice, make some simple conversation.
"I guess since I started dating Jon?" Zoey shrugged slightly, "I'm more of a football girl than hockey."
"Ah," Anna let out with a nod, taking a sip of her beer and returning her focus back to the now empty ice, "Well, I'm going to go get myself a snack. Want anything, Zoey?"
Zoey offered a slight smile towards the woman and shook her head, "No thanks." And with that, Anna left and Zoey let out a slight sigh. She wasn't sure that she fit in at a hockey game, but Jon had literally begged her to go, so she did.

"So how did you like the game?" Jon asked his girlfriend as they walked back to his truck after the game. He was delighted that Zoey had finally found the time to come to one of his games, even though he had to beg her.
"It was good. I'm glad you guys won." Zoey replied, sending him an obviously forced smile and a nod as she grabbed his free hand.
"I'm glad we won too. But you didn't have a good time, did you?" He asked with a slight frown.
"It was just... new to me, Jonny," She assured him, "Hey, someday I'll come to every game and love each one and I may even understand the rules."
Jon couldn't help but let out a slight laugh at that as they came to his vehicle. "Alright," He nodded, leaning down to peck a kiss to her lips. He'd never really interacted with people that didn't like hockey at all, and Zoey had barely ever watched hockey before she met him. "I'm wiped, I wish I didn't have to go on the road tomorrow," Jon changed the subject as they got into his truck, letting out a slight groan.
"I know, but you'll be back before you know it," Zoey reminded him, immediately making him feel better about it with her gorgeous little grin.

The next day on the plane to their next home game, Jonathan was relaxing with his headphones in, trying to get the rest Zoey took from him last night. Not that he minded.
"Hey, man, why do you look so tired?" Patrick Kane spoke up, sending a hard nudge into Jonathan's side with his bony elbow.
"Reasons, man, leave me be," Jon muttered, trying to get comfortable again.
"Did you hear what Anna told Bollig last night?" Patrick continued, even though Jon had told him not too.
"No," The team captain returned, closing his eyes again, not expressing that he even wanted to.
"Well, apparently, your little minx that's been keeping you up not only doesn't like hockey, but said 'it's just a game'," Pat let out with a chuckle.
Jon lifted his head slightly and looked at his friend, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, Anna said Zoey was pretty weird, would never had guessed you two were good together," Patrick continued mindlessly.
"Well, let Anna know that who I'm compatible with or not is none of her business. And I know Zoey doesn't like hockey, but at least she's willing to come to games despite that," Jon muttered, instantly defensive of his new girlfriend.
Zoey was like a breath of fresh air to Jon, and at the same time, full of surprises. She kept him very entertained in bed, and she was so cute in the mornings that he didn't mind that she belted out the Smiths in the shower.
"Alright, man," Kaner returned with a shrug of his shoulders, letting Jon get back to his much needed rest.
Jon told himself that Zoey just needed time to get to know his friends and vice versa. They were from different worlds and he liked her, a lot. He was sure when they all got to know each other, his friends would like her too.

Notes

Once again, IDK. I'm thinking this is gonna be a pretty short series, seeing as I have no aim or end result in mind for it. :x
