Riley smoothed her fingers over her skirt once more before stepping off the elevator that nerve wrecking morning. Riley was more than ready for this interview, she was ready to start her life as a real working independent woman, she had to start somewhere even if this interview was for an internship, and she would only be getting paid minimum wage.
As the elevator beeped Riley sucked in her breath as she took her first steps onto the office floors. Her nerves seemed taking over her body as she neared the office doors.
“This is it,” Riley breathed.
She walked up to the receptionist desk, “Ex-Excuse me?” She stuttered, “I’m suppose to be meeting with Lisa Sanchez, my names Riley White.”
The lady who looked in her early thirties looked up from her typing, “She’s with someone right now if you don’t mind waiting for five minutes I’ll let her know you’re here.”
Knowing that she had to wait gave her sometime to calm the nerves that seemed to be getting worse as timed passed.
“No problem,” Riley said turning on her heel to take a seat in the row of chairs behind her.
Riley pulled her phone out of her bag hoping to pass the time, noticing she had one unopened message she clicked on the icon and opened the message.

Hey bitch! Goodluck today, and don’t worry it’s just an interview. Beers tonight?? Love you

Riley smiled to herself and typed back

Thanks babe. And of course, I could go for one right now. Love you too

“Riley White?”

Riley snapped her head up from her phone, smoothed out her skirt one more time and followed the lady that had called her name.

“AHHHH! Riley congratulations!” Brittany yelled. Brittany had been Riley’s best friend since kindergarten. They had grown up living just a street over from each other, and had been inseparable ever since circle time on the magic carpet.

Riley lips curved into a smirk as she took a sip of her beer. “Now its not definite, but it looked really promising.”

Brittany let out a laugh, “Promising? Ha, babe you’ve got that job and you know it.”

Riley took a look around the bar before answering, for a Wednesday night it was pretty packed and she knew that there were multiple sporting events going on in town to thank for that.

“I mean, I think she really liked me but there was still a bunch of applicants that she had to interview, who knows they probably had better grade than I do, or did more extra activities. You know that they look for that kind of stuff right?” Riley took a long swing from her mug suddenly feeling nervous for how well her interview actually went. Sure, she had the woman eating out of the palm of her hand, but still she couldn’t help but feel like she did something wrong.

“Riles, seriously?” Brittany laughed. “You were valedictorian of our graduation class, you had a 4.0 GPA freshman year of college, and the only people that actually look at extra actives are colleges, and you’ve made it through that.”

Riley knew that Brittany was right but she couldn’t help but still worry. She had wanted this for as long as she could remember, she needed this to finally help her recover.

Brittany could tell that Riley was fighting herself in her mind she grabbed the bartender’s attention and ordered them a round of shots.
“This is it, bitch” Brittany said raising the small shot glass and turning her body to face the crowded bar. “My best friend is gonna work for the Boston Fucking Bruins.” They raised their glasses and the liquor slid down their throats.
