Boston's Girl

03

“Yo, dude who was that?”

Tyler turned his whole body to be welcomed by a group of his teammates; silently he let out a groan knowing that they were going to be drilling him on who mystery girl was, when even he himself didn’t get a chance to catch her name, or what she was even doing here in the garden.

“She was lost,” he mumbled stomping off towards the tunnel and onto the ice for practice.

Riley followed the directions that the hockey player had given her, feeling relieved when she found exactly where he had led her was where she needed to be, taking the elevator to the third floor then taking a right, and the first door on the left.
After setting up the press box, and posting the timings of when the press was able to go back after the game, Riley left the room, hoping that finding her way back to her office would be easier than her adventure away from it.

“Oh my god there you are!”

Riley had seen the girl in front of her a few times before, knowing that she worked a few cubicles over, but she never had the time to actually catch her name.

“Riley? Right?” The girl said, the tone in her voice bubbly and excited.

Riley nodded her head, “Yeah, I’m sorry I don’t think I’ve ever caught your name.”

The petite blonde standing in front of her stuck out her hand, “Emma. I work just a few cubicles over from you. I noticed you leave forty five minutes ago and figured you probably got lost going to the press box.”

Riley blushed sheepishly, was she really that predictable.

“Do I give off the getting lost in the first week vibe?” she laughed

Emma had followed Riley back to the elevators, and pressed the button. The doors opened within minutes and the two girls stepped inside.

“No, but in the first week that I was here they sent me to the press room too… I ended up at the train station instead.” Emma said, piping in a little laugh.

The two girls seemed to flow in the conversation easily; they had talked about their jobs, and the upcoming game that was supposed to take place that evening. Emma had given Riley some advice on whom in the office to avoid and what to expect when being an intern. In all Riley had really taken accustomed to Emma, and felt that she had known for more than a few short minutes.

“So where are you studying from?” Emma said.

Riley turned her head to her, “I’m a senior at BU.”

Emma’s face lit up, “That’s awesome, I graduated from UMass last year, but I had interned here the year before, and was lucky enough to get a full time position.”

As the elevator dinged the two had walked back down the isle to their cubicles being only four away from each other made it convenient them

They approached Riley’s small space first; Emma had popped her hip and leaned her elbow against the felt board.

“A few of us are going out for a drink after the game, you should come!”

Riley smiled, “Yeah that sounds like fun.”

Tyler was the first one back to the locker room that evening after the game. Not only was he pissed that they had lost, but he was pretty sure that he had just played the worst game of his life. And, all he wanted to do was go home and sleep.

“Hey Segs let’s go out, get a drink or something.”

Tyler looked up from untying his skates and loosening his pads to see a couple of the guys standing in front of him but it was Marchy that had actually spoke up.

Tyler looked down at the ground and shook his head sheepishly, “Nah you guys go ahead, I think I’ll pass.”

Brad stood there with his arms cross, obviously not taking no for an answer.

“If this is about that girl from earlier, get your ass showered and ready we’re going out.”

An hour after the game Riley, Emma, and about half of the floor that she had worked with piled themselves into the small Boston bar that was only a five-minute walk away from the garden. After the day that she had, Riley had ordered herself the coldest beer that she could get, knowing that it probably wasn’t going to be her only one.

Riley scanned the bar from where she was sitting hoping to catch a glimpse of Emma who had ran off to the bathroom a few minutes before.

“Is this seat taken?”

She had recognized him almost immediately and wondered why the other half of horny sluts hadn’t

“It’s all yours,” She said gesturing towards the empty bar stool.

She took a swig of her beer and glanced at him from the corner of her eye. She had wondered if he had remembered her from earlier because she wanted to thank him, if it wasn’t for him she could be in this bar alone, sulking because she had lost her job.

“You find the press box earlier?” He said catching her off guard, and gesturing towards the bartender to bring over two more beers.

She took the final sip of her beer before taking the other he had ordered.

“Yes, thanks for that. I would’ve probably gotten fired without your help.”

He pressed the bottle to his lips, taking a long drink.

“No problem, so what’s your name?”

Usually he was smoother than just blurting out ‘what’s your name’ but it had driven him crazy all day not knowing whom she was.

Riley lifted her phone out of her purse and checked the time, not realizing it was nearly one in the morning, she took another sip of the beer, gathered her belongings, and left a five dollar tip on the bar.

“Riley,” she answered before disappearing out the door.
