Boston's Girl

07

Riley found herself locked in her cubical, three days after leaving Tyler at the ice. It was one of those days where she’d rather be anywhere but inside, the snow on the ground was finally beginning to melt and the unfamiliar sun was shinning after almost a week of the city being draped with dreary gray clouds.

“You can’t focus either?” Emma said, peering over the felt block.

Riley looked up from her computer where for the past twenty minutes she was pretending to be completely consumed in her work but in reality she was just catching up on the latest celebrity gossip.

“Not one bit,” she smiled.

“Okay, good. Let’s ditch this joint, I’m starving.”

Riley couldn’t agree more, though the sun was shining the wind was still whipping about through the city that still required her to grab her coat, and scarf and bundle herself up in them.

The two girls had grown close since meeting over three weeks ago, and it made the crazy running around easier when Riley had someone to do it with, or even just to talk to being in the office.

“Starbucks sound okay?” Emma asked, looking at Riley who looked to be completely consumed by the surroundings of her city. The amount of times that she had been in the city growing up and even now, she never realized how beautiful it actually was until it snowed, maybe it was just the snow itself that made everything prettier, but she was sure that it was the actual atmosphere of it all.

“Uh yeah, I could use something to warm up.”

Emma raised an eyebrow at her, knowing that something wasn’t right.

“So what’s the deal with you and Seguin?”

That immediately had Riley’s attention, sure they had one date and after probably one of the best make-out sessions that she’s ever encountered, but they weren’t anything, she made that perfectly clear to him.

“There is no deal,” She smiled her cheeks reddening. She wasn’t quite sure what from, the cold air or the fact that she was blushing and all the heat was suddenly rushing to them.

“Seriously Riley? I thought we were friends you can tell me!” Emma squealed.

They had ordered their coffees and taken a seat by the window.

“Seriously though, there’s nothing going on.”

Emma traced the outline of her coffee cup, her eyes avoiding all contact with Riley until she was about to take a sip of her drink.

“Not the word going around the office.”

“Word? What word? And why didn’t I hear any of this?”

Emma let out a sigh. “The word that you and Seguin are banging in the locker room, almost everyone knows about it.”

Riley’s eyes went wide, and she nearly spit her coffee all over herself.

“Well you can quote me on this, we are in no way shape or form banging in the locker room.”

Riley went for her phone as she felt in vibrate from beneath the fabric of her heavy coat, she flipped it open and to no avail and at the wrong timing did she notice Tyler’s name flash across, noting her that she had a text from him.

Drinks tonight?

“Oh so you’re not banging him in the locker room? But you are banging him, okay I’ll clear up the rumor on Monday.”

Riley rolled her eyes. “We aren’t doing anything, but I have to go.”

She took the last sip of her drink and left Emma, but not before she could get the last word in.

“Have fun with Seguin!” She called after her.

Riley stuck up a middle finger as she passed the window that they were sitting in front of, before taking out her phone and texting Tyler back.

Can’t tonight, hanging with the bff

She really had nowhere to go, she just didn’t want to be drilled with questions of Tyler. She knew she wouldn’t be able to explain to Emma what her and Tyler were without having to bring up her past, and then that would result in tears and she just wasn’t in the mood for it now, it was hard enough telling Tyler. But the two were just friends, and she liked it, never did Riley actually have a guy friend that she could depend on, and for some reason with Tyler she felt at east… safe.

Not long after did she receive a text back.

Oh don’t worry I it get chicks before dicks

She rolled her eyes, before typing back.

Again with the chicks before dicks. Sorry babe, I promised her

She did promise Brittany that she would hang out with her; it’s been weeks since they’ve seen each other. Brittany was consumed in her schoolwork, and Riley with her own job, everything had just been so hectic lately that the two friends hadn’t even had enough time for each other.

She scrolled through her Twitter feed and her Facebook timeline while she waited for a text back.

Bring her. I have a sexy roommate
Riley found herself letting out a small chuckle.

One drink
