A Not So Musical Nashville

1: Setting up the "One Timer"

And last but not least, drafted 210th overall in the 7th round, The Nashville Predators select from The Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League, Scott Evans. I stood up with this huge grin on my face, I was fulfilling a dream. I had always thought that I would have drafted first overall, not last overall, but I can’t complain too much. I’m living every child’s die hard hockey fan dream. I was really being drafted in the NHL. I was approached by a man who was a little short, okay pretty short and a little chubby little guy. But I showed him the utter most respect as he was the commissioner of the league, Gary Bettman.

“Congratulations sir!” And he shook my hand. I smiled and thanked him. Then the general manager, David Poile, came up to me and gave me the organization’s last draft jersey. I may have cried or something as the photographer put his camera down and he gave me a hug. I wiped my tears of happiness and put on a huge smile with the jersey for the media and put it on. I headed backstage and meet all my fellow Nashville draftees. “The first overall draftee” Connor McDavid put his arm around my shoulders saying “Don’t be embarrassed, I was the same way!” I heard he was nice by others, and I have to say, I like this guy already; glad he’s on my team! We laughed and I met my new teammates.

The Coach came up to us. He congratulated us, then saying “We were all invited to a team dinner and training camp in a month. And for those who have them, bring your dates tonight!” Well, I’m screwed there! But, what every, there has to be at least one person besides me who doesn’t have a date, right? My family came and I gave them all a huge hug, I still can’t get over the excitement. I told them about my plans, with my older sister adding in comments on how I was growing up so fast, and how I was gay, and all. Normal older sister stuff… I told them I would catch them back in Indiana and I had to get ready for the dinner. I then got ready in my hotel room while syncing my iPod to artists that range from Bon Jovi, to Carrie Underwood! I listen to a lot of music, if you can’t tell! I got in my car and turned the key in my ‘76 Camaro drove off into the sunset, Even though it was actually dark, but that’s alright.

I got to the restaurant and seemed to be on time, some were there, and some weren’t. I had found my name on a seat and sat down. Not a minute later, a muscular man and his wife from what it looked like, but she looked so familiar though. I checked my iPhone and the last song I played was pulled up, I looked at the artist and then it hit me, I know who it was, I looked up and that confirmed my idea, it was Carrie Underwood. I then hear a “Can we help you?” I look past Carrie and see the same man, HER man. I realized it was Mike Fisher, how could I have been so stupid not to have realized. Carrie had glanced towards me with a questioning and wondering look.

“I- I’m sorry sir, I was just…” I tried to explain with a red hot guilty look. If I would have been someone else, I would feel bad for myself.
“Mike!” Carrie exclaimed.
“He was staring at you, Carrie.”
“I’m terribly sorry!” I explained. “I just kind of couldn’t believe my eyes. Carrie, you may or not have been my childhood crush.” I pretty sure I was blushing like a stripe on the American flag.
“Awwww, Mike, he’s so adorable, can we keep him?”
I heard a ton of laughs and looked around, many were watching this exchange.
“Please Mikey?” Carrie said as she side hugged me, but still looking at him giving him a puppy dog face. I give one too.
“Fine” Mike finally gave in, got a place to sleep till. He looked at the table to check and make sure he had my name right, ‘Alright Scotty, sorry for jumping at you, but as long as you don’t stare at my wife, we would like to invite you into our home for camp. And you can stay afterwards; you just have to make it on the main roster.”
I smiled and nodded my head as Carrie squealed in happiness. At least it seemed like one. I got to meet all my new teammates, getting made fun of for, in fact, being the only guy without a girl, Connor laughed as I punched him for teasing me about it. This is going be a fun!

I drove back to Indiana with Mike and Carrie and they meet the family, and they were “a little” amazed, because they “barley” like country music. They talked as I started packing up my things for Nashville. Training camp next week, I’m ready for this!
