Always

And Baby Makes Three

Liz sighed, she was sitting on the couch watching the Bruins play the Sabres in one of their last home games of the season. It didn't matter what she did, she could not get comfortable. Squirming around again, she sighed for a second time and gave up succumbing to the awkward position she was in on the couch.
"You need to come out soon little girl, because this is just ridiculous."
She heard the sound of the obnoxiously loud horn, signalling the Bruins had scored again and turned her miserable looking face towards the TV.
"Yaaaaaay." She said with no emotion behind it.
She really was happy they scored, because that meant they were now leading 5-1 in the middle of the third, which meant she would have a happy boyfriend tonight. Her stomach grumbled and she groaned, knowing she was going to have to get off the couch in order to stop the rumbling. After a few minutes of trying to hoist herself up off the couch she finally made it and started on her way to the kitchen. When she was about halfway there she felt a weird pang go through the bottom of her stomach. She stopped, putting a hand to the area and looked down at her stomach.
"What the hell was that?"
She stood for a minute making sure that it was gone and then made her way back into the kitchen. She settled on popcorn, because really she couldn't think of anything else that she wanted to eat right now. After she got back to the couch, she rested the popcorn on her stomach and started to munch. A couple minutes later she felt another pang and set the popcorn bowl on the couch beside her looking at the time clock on the screen. Only 4 minutes left of the game, which meant Adam should be on his way home in about an hour.
"We can wait it out for daddy to get home, right?" She rubbed her stomach, hoping the pangs held off getting worse for the next hour.

Adam walked in the door right on time to what Liz had guessed he would. He spotted Liz sitting on the couch, and NESN still on the TV and smiled.
"So I'm guessing you saw that kickass win?"
He heard a long breath come from the couch and walked over to it. When he got there he saw his sitting on the couch, both hands on her stomach and eyes closed focused on her breathing.
"You okay?"
"Fine. And yes, I saw the win. But you're going to see this baby born on our couch if we don't head to a hospital now."
"What, you're having contractions?! Why didn't you call?! Why didn't you let someone know, I could have left the game!"
"Babe, calm down and help me up."
He helped Liz off the couch and put both hands on her face.
"How are you so calm right now?"
"They only started at the end of the third period, and they aren't that bad right now. Plus, one of us has to be the calm one."
She looked at him pointedly and he chuckled, "true, I'm sorry. How about we go to the hospital now?"
"That sounds like a good plan." He turned and headed for the apartment door walking straight out and closing it behind him. Liz stood and stared at the back of the closed door waiting for him to come back. She saw the knob turn and Adam walk back through the door.
"Forget something?"
"Yeah, you." He grabbed for her arm and she put her other hand on top of his.
"Babe. You might need shoes, the baby bag, my bag, you know essentials."
He let go of her arm and looked down at his sock clad feet.
"Well, we found your baby brain." She grabbed at her stomach as another pain rippled through it. "Owwwwwww."
Adam looked up and his eyes went wide.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. Can we just get everything and go please?"
Adam turned and ran to their bedroom grabbing Liz's bag and then ran across the apartment to the nursery to grab the baby bag.
"Got it!"
Just as he was about to head out the door Liz stopped him.
"Adam."
He turned and looked at her.
"Shoes, baby, shoes."
He looked back down again at his sock feet and shook his head. Sliding his feet into his shoes he nodded.
"Okay, shoes."
"Much better." She started her way to the door and headed out and down the elevator, waiting for the doors to open she felt another pain and put a hand up against the wall, bracing herself.
The doors opened and she was thankful, when they got to the bottom Adam told her to wait at the door and he would drive the car up. While she was waiting for him, she pulled out her phone and texted Brit and Katie.
'Baby alert.'
Within seconds she got a response from Brit.
'WHAT?! Baby time?! FOR REAL?!'
She chuckled and was about to respond when she saw the car pull up and Adam jump out to help her in. Once she was in he looked at her and put a hand up to her face.
"You okay?"
"Babe, I'm fine. I promise."
He leaned in and pressed a kiss to her forehead, then closed the door and ran around jumping back in the drivers side. Liz pulled out her phone again, and typed a response to Brit.
'Yep, baby time! We're on our way to the hospital, let everyone else know?'
'AH! This is so exciting! Of course!'
Before she could respond to Brit, she got a text back from Katie.
'Yaaay :) I'm excited to finally meet this little princess!'
She chuckled and looked over at Adam who was currently white knuckling the wheel, fully focusing on driving them to the hospital. She reached over and put a hand on his leg.
"You need to calm down a bit."
"I'm sorry. I just, I don't know." He looked so frazzled and she smiled up at him.
"You're doing fine, just don't shoot your nerves completely before anything even happens, deal?"
He smiled back down at her and grabbed her hand. "Deal. You ready for this momma?"
"No choice now, what about you dad?"
"Ready as I'll ever be."

"Alright, one more push Liz."
She whimpered and closed her eyes, not sure if she had one more in her. Adam squeezed her hand and she looked up at him, he smiled as he ran his fingers through her hair and kissed her forehead.
"One more baby."
The doctor said push and Liz pushed down with everything left in her.
"Okay, stop."
She let her breathe go and her head fell back against the pillow. Seconds later a tiny whimper came from in front of her followed by a loud cry and she opened her eyes as they put her little girl on her chest. She looked down at the gooey little mess and smiled, eyes welling up with tears. She was tiny, but not too tiny, good set of lungs for sure and a head of messy little curls. Liz looked up at Adam who was also admiring the little girl on Liz's chest and smiled at the look on his face. He looked like a kid on Christmas morning as he reached out his finger for her tiny little hand and stroked the top gently. She fell completely in love with her new little family as the tears started to flow freely. A few seconds later one of the nurses pulled her from her chest telling her they needed to clean her up and Liz nodded. She watched them take her over to the little warmer and then looked up at Adam who was smiling down at her.
"You did it." He cupped her cheek with his hand.
"We did it. I'm pretty sure you had a part in it too babe."
A tired smirk stretched across her face as he wiped some of her tears away.
"Yeah, I guess." He smiled and leaned down pressing his lips against hers.
A few minutes later the nurses brought her back over to them and placed her in Liz's arms The new partens sat and admired the beautiful little baby in silence before Liz spoke.
"She's got your curls."
He ran his large hand over her little head and smiled. "She looks like you though."
"You think so?"
"Of course, she's beautiful."
Liz leaned forward and pressed a light kiss to the little girls forehead. She scrunched her nose up at the contact and let out a little sigh nestling back into her warm blankets. Both Adam and Liz chuckled at her little expression and Liz looked up at Adam.
"You want to hold her?"
"Yeah, but I don't know what I'm doing." He chuckled nervously.
Liz scooted over in the bed for him to sit beside her and patted the space beside her. He moved to sit and she started to hand her to him.
"One hand behind her head," he followed her instruction, "and the other under her bum." He sat there awkwardly holding her the way Liz told him to, afraid to hurt her.
"You're not gonna break her babe, she's pretty tough."
She started to fuss and that made Adam even more nervous, which didn't go unnoticed by Liz.
"Sit back, relax."
He leaned back, but couldn't relax. Liz brushed her fingers over the little hand of their baby girl and softly cooed, "it's okay, daddy's got you."
He watched the little girl as she seemed to take in her mothers words and let out a little sigh quieting down and nuzzling into Adams chest as he held her close. The feeling of his little girl in his arms was an amazing feeling and it was even better when Liz cuddled into his side, admiring their little bundle. He stared down at the sleeping little girl with the adorable button nose, perfectly shaped lips and porcelain skin. He wasn't lying when he said she looked exactly like Liz, the only way you could tell he was even a part of her was the wild, dark brown curls on the top of her head.
"See. She loves her daddy already."
"Good, 'cause I'm definitely taken by her."
Liz chuckled tiredly. "I would have never known."
He looked over at Liz and kissed the side of her head.
"I love you."
"Love you too, hotshot."
They were both silent for a moment before Liz mumbled, "Amelia."
"Hmm?" He looked over at her.
A smile started to creep up her face and she looked down at the baby.
"Amelia. Her name."
"Amelia Marie McQuaid." He repeated. "I like it."
Liz looked down and stroked her cheek. "Welcome to the world Amelia McQuaid."
After a couple minutes of family bonding, a nurse walked into the room smiling at the trio on the bed.
"How's the new family?"
"Good." Adam smiled.
"How's mom doing?"
"Doing good." Liz smiled at her.
"She's adorable." The nurse glanced over at the sleeping baby and looked up at the pair.
"Thanks, we're kinda partial to her." Liz chuckled.
"So do we have a name for the little cutie yet?"
"Amelia." Adam said with a smile looking down at his daughter.
"Oh that's a cute name! You're a lucky little baby there Amelia."
The proud parents smiled up at the nurse as a soft knock rang off the door.
"Knock knock," a female voice came from behind the door as they looked over to see Katie's head popping around the frame, "is it okay if we come in?"
"Of course." Liz smiled as Katie and Greg entered the room and took in the scene on the bed.
"Oh my goodness, aren't you guys just adorable!" The smile on Katie's face couldn't get any larger. Adam turned so they could see Amelia more easily.
"She's gorgeous." Katie stared down at the little girl, "seriously, she's beautiful," she said as she looked up at them.
"Thanks." Liz smiled.
"Can I hold her?" Adam nodded and handed her over to Katie. Greg was beside Katie taking in the little girl as well.
"Someone looks just like momma." Greg looked up at Liz and smirked.
"But the curls are definitely dad's." Katie chuckled.
Adam stood up, stretching his legs after sitting on the bed for a while and Greg walked over to him giving him a man hug.
"Congrats, Quaider. You did good."
"Thanks Soup."
Greg walked around Adam to give Liz a kiss on the head.
"Good job Lizzie."
"So what did you name this little beauty?" Katie looked over to Liz excitedly.
"Amelia."
Katie looked down and rocked the little baby in her arms, "Amelia McQuaid. It's almost too perfect."
"I was a little nervous about the name, but it just came to me when I saw her."
Another knock on the door interrupted Liz's thought and she heard Segs voice from the other side of the door.
"Everyone decent in here?"
Liz chuckled, "yes Ty, you can come in."
Tyler came around the corner followed closely by Freddy and Marchy. The three boys immediately went to Katie when they saw her with the baby in her arms.
"Well well well, who do we have here?" Freddy spoke as he looked down at her.
"Boys, that's Amelia. Amelia, those boys are going to cause you headaches for the rest of your life." Liz smirked.
"Pffft. These boys are going to be the best uncles you'll ever have!" Marchy was quick to add.
Tyler looked over at Adam. "Man, who knew a brute like you could make such a cute baby."
"I'm in a good mood, so I'll let that one slide for now." He smirked at the young player.
Freddy walked over to the bed and kissed the side of Liz's head.
"Congrats Lizzie. She's beautiful, just like her momma."
She smiled warmly at him and squeezed his hand, "thanks Fred."
The other two boys circled their way around the room passing out congrats and hugs. Katie made her way back over to Liz and passed Amelia back over to her.
"Even though I never want to put her down, there's a waiting room full of hockey players who can't wait to meet her." She chuckled.
"Yeah, everyone needs their baby fix, so we'll send in the next troop." Greg chuckled as he wrangled the two younger players out of the room as Fred followed.
"Screw this hockey player thing, the best friend needs some baby time before them!" Julie pushed her way past the three boys circling the bed and looked down at the baby in Liz's arms.
"Oh my god. I'm in love with her already."
Liz chuckled and looked up at her best friend. "I know, right?"
"Name?"
"Amelia."
"That is so perfect. I'm babysitting her all the time I hope you know."
"Well I hope you know that I will never forget you saying that, and you're probably going to regret it."
The two shared a chuckle before Julie looked over at Adam. "Congrats pops!" You two make good babies."
He laughed and looked down at Amelia. "Yeah, might have to try for a boy next time."
Liz looked up at him, "next time, huh?"
"Well we can't just have one. No brothers or sisters? No fun."
Liz didn't say anything more on the topic, just smiled at him and looked back down at the perfect little girl in her arms.
"So did it hurt as bad as predicted?"
"Jesus yes. Not enough drugs in the entire world to stop that pain."
"Yuck. I'm leaving the having babies thing up to you, I'll just claim my role as fun aunt."
"Or crazy aunt…"
"Alright, alright. Enough girl chat about babies and vaginas. Hand her over!"
Liz looked up at Tyler who was standing with his arms out, ready to take over the baby holding. She looked up at Adam.
"Do we really want to let HIM hold our first born child?"
"I donno… we could always put the you break it you bought it rule into effect though?"
"Really guys? It's not like it's the first baby I've ever held! Plus uncle Tyler is going to be her favourite!"
"It's the first baby of mine you've ever held. And I don't know, she's gonna have a lot of uncles to choose from!"
"Just give me the kid."
Liz nodded her head for Tyler to come over and gently placed the baby girl in his arms.
"I swear to God Seguin," Adam looked over at him with a warning look.
"I don't know what you're worried about, we're fine over here. Look, she's happy as a pig in shit."
Liz shook her head at him and turned her attention to the door as it opened again. This time revealing Brit and Looch. Brit made her way straight over to Liz, hugging her.
"Oh my god, you have a baby!"
"And you let Seggy hold it? Was that really a smart move?" Looch said chuckling.
"It'll be fine once he hands her over to Aunty Brit!" Brit made her way over to the group of young guys and wedged her way in, reaching out and taking hold of the little baby in Tyler's arms. "Oh my god, this is the most ridiculously adorable baby girl I've ever seen."
Looch looked at the brand new baby in Brit's arms and looked over to Adam with a smile on his face. "Good job you two. Name?"
"Amelia." Adam responded.
"Amelia McQuaid, you are barely hours old and already melting me."
Looch chuckled at Brit's statement, "you realize you're never going to have to buy anything for this kid ever because Brit's already going to have bought it for you, right?"
Liz shrugged and yawned, "works for me."
Brit saw the yawn and handed Amelia back to Liz, "here, we won't stay any longer. Send the rest of the guys through and then you can sleep."
"Thanks." Liz smiled up at her.

Over the next twenty minutes, guys shuffled in and out getting a peak at the newest little member of the Bruins. Adam and Liz stayed in the same position in the bed, Adam's arm wrapped around Liz and one hand fiddling with Amelia's blankets. Everyone had finally made their way through and Liz yawned again.
"You tired mommy right out, you little stinker."
Amelia squirmed in her arms and she chuckled, "yes you!" She lightly brushed her fingers over the little babies stomach.
"I have a feeling this isn't the only night she's going to keep us awake, sadly." Adam chuckled.
"Well, at least she's cute."
Liz leaned her head over onto Adam's shoulder and closed her eyes.
"How are you feeling?"
"Fantastic."
"Really?"
"You asked me how I was feeling, not how my baby organs were feeling."
Adam chuckled and pressed a kiss to the top of Liz's head. "This is true."
"You staying here tonight, hotshot?"
"You want me to?"
"Of course, you've got first diaper change duty." He looked down at her, eyes still closed and a smirk plastered to her face. Before he could come up with a witty response, he noticed her breathing slow and realized she had fallen asleep. He looked down at both of his girls, asleep beside him and smiled. The guys had told him about the feeling babies brought, but he never thought he would be in this deep this quickly. The look on Amelia's face quickly changed and she looked like she was about to go into full out scream mode. He rested his large hand on her tiny stomach and shushed her.
"Hey, don't cry. You don't want to wake your momma up." He whispered to his little girl. He started rubbing small circles on her little belly and instantly the look on her face went back to normal. He sighed to himself thinking maybe this dad thing wasn't going to be as hard as he thought it would be. Taking in the site of Liz holding Amelia, he smiled again, closing his eyes and resting his head on top of Liz's, leaning back into the pillow.

You aren't a horrible person!! Life happens, and it's okay to have taken a break. But now, if you're back, I'm so happy for updates to start coming back!!
I think that in a traditional sense, an engagement/wedding/etc. would come next. That's always an option to explore for Adam and Liz. If not, maybe just some good old-fashioned drama (car accident? hockey collision? sick baby?? ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES)
Honestly, I'll be happy to read anything about the McQuaids at this point. Just take your time and things ideas may come! :) :) :)
