Five Hours

A week and a half later and playoffs were officially starting. Adam stood in the doorway, fresh in his game day suit ready to head to the Garden for game one. Liz was sitting on the arm of the couch, Amelia tightly secured against her chest in her baby carrier.
"You're just going 10 minutes away, babe."
He looked sadly over at the girls on the couch, "I know. But it's 10 minutes away for 4 hours."
Liz chuckled at him and got up off the arm of the couch and walked over to him. "You trying to tell me I'm incapable of taking care of this little nugget for 4 hours by myself?"
He brushed his hand lightly over the little girls head, "not at all, I'm trying to tell you that I'm incapable of being away from her for 4 hours."
"You've done it twice in the last week, babe. I promise she won't start walking or get shipped off to college before you get back." Liz said with a slight smirk on her face. Adam countered her smirk with a pout. She reached up and put her hand on his scruffy cheek.
"I think you're just nervous."
"It's playoffs, I'm always nervous."
She propped herself up on her toes and pressed her lips lightly to his.
"You're gonna be great. I have no doubt in my mind, hotshot."
He smiled a small smile and leaned back down to kiss her again. In the middle of their kiss, the door opened and in walked Brit and Katie.
"What are you still doing here McQuaid?"
Liz chuckled as she felt Adam's shoulders slump. He pulled away from Liz and looked at Brit.
"Postponing leaving, thank you very much."
"Well you better get going, guys are all at the rink."
He looked at Brit and back over to Liz. She gave him a small sympathetic smile.
"Play hard."
He returned the smile and bent down pressing a soft kiss to the top of Amelia's head and headed out the door.
"Well someone's smitten with his little girl." Katie said, a smile plastered to her face. "Adorable."
"How can you not be smitten with this little angel?" Brit said peering over Liz's shoulder into the baby carrier at a half asleep Amelia.
"Yeah, she's got her moments," Liz chuckled as the three ladies headed over to the couch.
"So how's momma life treating you?"
"Actually not too bad, but how can it be when you get to walk around with something so adorable strapped to your chest." She looked down as Amelia stirred, looking up at her with sleepy eyes. She unhooked the carrier and took her out, putting her in the small bassinet on the floor near the couch.
"This is very true, life can't be all bad when you've got that little face around! How about sleep though? Life is also good with sleep." Katie chuckled.
"Adam actually gets up with her through the night, even though I tell him not to because he needs his sleep for the playoff run, but he feels guilty that he's not here all day to help. And try telling that man that he can't do something, doesn't work very well."
"What a guy. Most of the guys in that room would jump at the chance to sleep all night versus waking up with a baby."
"I always told Greg he was gonna make a good dad some day," Katie looked over at Brit and then at Liz, "Good husband, too."
Liz chuckled and rolled her eyes, "oh God, let's not even talk about that right now!"
"Why not? You guys have a baby together, next logical step would be putting a ring on it." Brit looked at her in somewhat awe.
"Because of the fact that we JUST had a baby together, I'd prefer to get used to this craziness before adding a wedding into the mix."
"Makes sense, one step at a time, right?" Katie curled her legs under her on the couch.
"Exactly. See, there's the common sense!"
"I just think you two are crazy adorable together, and he's head over heals with you! So it would make sense if he popped the question."
"And I'm head over heals for him, but one step at a time crazy lady!"
Brit put her hands up and headed into the kitchen, "I'm just saying."
Liz chuckled and stopped, narrowing her eyes and turning to look at Brit who was getting herself a glass of water. "Wait, do you know something I don't?"
Brit laughed, "oh honey, you know me and secret keeping. If I knew something you didn't, it wouldn't be for very long!"
Liz relaxed into the couch, "thank god for your big mouth Brit."

5 hours and one playoff game win in the books and Adam was making his way through the door. When he walked in he noticed all the lights were off and frowned to himself, hoping that the girls would have been up. Quietly he made his way into the kitchen and opened the fridge grabbing a gatorade from the shelf and cracking it open, tossing the lid into the garbage. Sighing, he leaned over the counter and put his phone on the charger pad when he felt arms wrap around his waist. He smiled to himself as he felt Liz place her head in the centre of his back.
"Good game hotshot."
He turned around in her arms to face her, "thanks babe. I thought you were asleep."
"I may have dozed off a little, but I heard the door close so when you didn't come to the bedroom I figured I should probably come find you."
"You could have stayed in bed, I would have come in soon."
He felt her shrug, "I like this much better than laying in an empty bed alone."
"We could always keep doing this in bed, probably be comfier." He chuckled and she felt the rumble in his chest.
"This is true," she pulled away, "plus, you're much nicer to hug minus the suit. It's a little stiff."
He shook his head, chuckling at her remark and followed her to their room. He started peeling off his suit jacket and undoing his tie on the way to the room, tossing them on the top of the dresser when he walked in. Liz went over to Amelia's bassinet peering in at the sleeping little girl before heading to her side of the bed. Adam stood at the edge of the bed in his boxers looking over at the bassinet and then back to Liz. He looked back one more time before starting to get into bed. She chuckled and put her hand on his arm, pushing him back out of the bed.
"Go get her." He looked over at her. "You know you want to. It's been what, a whole 5 hours?"
Walking around the bed he gently reached in and grabbed the sleeping baby from her bassinet, trying his hardest not to wake her up. As soon as she was off the tiny mattress, she scrunched her nose up, looking as if she was going to cry at any second. Quickly Adam pulled her into his chest and shushed her, heading back over to the bed. Liz watched the interaction as Amelia calmed down as soon as she was in her dad's arms and sighed, smiling.
"You know, if she's a princess when she grows up I'm blaming it all on you. Not even two weeks old and she's the biggest daddy's girl out there."
The grin on his face was unmistakable as he carefully made his way into bed, not wanting to wake her.
"I'm mildly okay with that."
Liz chuckled and turned onto her side curling into him.
"I figured you would be."
She looked up at him and he leaned down pressing his lips to hers. "But it can't be like this with every kid. I can't have a house of brats just because they've got dad wrapped around their finger."
"Every kid, huh?"
"Well we do make damn good babies, so I wouldn't be opposed to the idea."
He leaned down and kissed her again. "You know, I could always put her back to sleep and we could start practicing that baby making again…"
"You waste no time, do you hotshot?"
He shrugged lightly, "well like you said, we do make damn good babies."

The next morning Adam woke up to an empty bed and an empty bassinet. Stretching his arms over his head he let out a yawn as a cry came from across the apartment. Swinging his legs over the side of the bed he hopped up and headed across the apartment, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes as he went. As he got closer to the nursery the cries got louder and he frowned slightly. As he entered the nursery he let out another yawn and walked over to the changing table where Liz was getting Amelia ready for the day.
"See, I told you you were going to wake your dad up." Liz said down to the squirmy little baby on the change table as she finished buttoning up her jumper.
"It's fine, I needed to get up anyway."
"Practice this morning?" Liz leaned up against the change table as Adam reached down and picked up the still fussy little girl.
"Yeah, at 11:30."
"You could have slept until 10, it's only 8:45."
"And miss out on baby time, I don't think so."
She chuckled and shook her head. "Were you planning on putting some pants on for baby time?"
He looked down and realized that he had neglected to put his boxers back on after their activities last night and laughed looking back up at Liz who still stood against the change table with a smirk on her face, "not that I'm complaining, I was just wondering. Cause it might be hard to focus on cooking if you're planning on walking around like that."
He laughed again and walked over to Liz giving her a kiss and turned heading out of the nursery to go get his boxers.
"Hate to see you leave, but love to watch you go!"
He grinned and looked over his shoulder, "really babe?"
"Hey, have you seen your ass lately?" She wiggled her eyebrows and he let out a hearty chuckle and continued on his way to the bedroom.
When he came back out he found Liz in the kitchen, eggs in the pan, toast in the toaster and cutting up fruit.
"You know, one of these days you're going to get to eat your mom's breakfasts too and you're going to love them just as much as I do."
Liz looked up from the mango she was currently cutting with a small smirk on her face, "technically she gets to have mom's breakfast now."
"Not that it doesn't sound delicious or anything, but she can have that and I'll stick with the eggs."
She chuckled and shook her head at him, "speaking of, someone was too speedy at following his girls out of bed. I didn't get time to feed her before you snatched her away from me."
The toast popped up from the toaster and she got to work assembling the breakfast plates. Heading to the table she put her plate down and held the other one in front of Adam.
"Trade, breakfast for the baby."
"Hmmmm… I don't know about that… But since she needs breakfast too, and I'm not equipt to do that, I guess it's a fair trade."
She laughed at him, "Give me my kid."

Notes

Oh hey look, another chapter! WHO KNEW THESE COULD HAPPEN!

So there's more adorableness. I'm kinda running out of major plot ideas right now, I've only got adorableness in my brain!
If there's any ideas, let me know!

I hope you peeps enjoy this one!!

You aren't a horrible person!! Life happens, and it's okay to have taken a break. But now, if you're back, I'm so happy for updates to start coming back!!
I think that in a traditional sense, an engagement/wedding/etc. would come next. That's always an option to explore for Adam and Liz. If not, maybe just some good old-fashioned drama (car accident? hockey collision? sick baby?? ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES)
Honestly, I'll be happy to read anything about the McQuaids at this point. Just take your time and things ideas may come! :) :) :)
