24 Hours with You

Chapter 20

A couple days had passed and Josie and I were together a lot just hanging out or shopping whenever we weren't working.

It was Monday, only two days before James and Brandon were coming home. We decided to go out grocery shopping since we ate all the food that both of us had in our apartments.

It was nice to have some company at the supermarket for once. Usually it was a lonely and boring but necessary trip, so having Josie there made it a bit more bearable.

Once we were done we went our separate ways and agreed to meet up the next night to watch the guys' game. As I reached the door into my apartment building my phone starting ringing. There was no way I could answer it with 4 bags on each arm and some in each hand along with my purse and my keys. Whoever it was would have to wait, it probably wasn't urgent so I decided I'd call them back once I got in and everything was put away.

When I tried to use my key to unlock the door, it was already unlocked. That's strange, I thought. I could have sworn that I locked it, but I just assumed that I forgot. I walked in like normal and turned around to close the door but when I flipped back around, I was met with Michael's face. I was so shocked that I dropped every bag I had, along with my keys and purse, and stood still in shock. He just smiled and waited for me to say something.

Once I had my wits about me, I spoke up.

"How did you get in here?" He laughed at the question.

"Your beloved boy toy wasn't too smart the last time we saw each other. I snagged this stupid Dory key out of his pocket, and it wasn't hard to figure out what it unlocked."

"You need to leave right now, before I call the cops." I kept a stern face although I was extremely nervous and almost shaking at the sight of him.

"I don't think that's going to happen. You see, I didn't get what I came for last time but I'm going to get it today." He grinned wildly and walked towards me until his face was two inches away from mine.

"Not a chance." In a swift motion my fist collided with his jaw and his head tilted back in pain. I took that as my opportunity to try to get away from him but I couldn't get to the door quick enough. He grabbed me and squeezed my arm as hard as he could then hauled me back towards him.

"Are you trying to make this worse for yourself Cassie?" He was serious as he spoke and then his other hand that was rubbing his jaw, swung at me and I toppled to the ground. He hauled me back up by my other arm and gave me another punch in the face. Whimpering, I stayed down and he knelt over me.

"This is why you should co-operate. It'll be a lot easier for both of us." He said as he leaned in closer and hovered over me.

"YOU BITCH!" He screamed in pain as I kneed him right in the balls. It was enough to successfully get away from him that time and grabbed the closest thing around to hit him with. I had a vase full of flowers that worked just fine. I smashed it over his head and the glass shattered while flowers flew everywhere. Some pieces of glass stuck in my hands but it was worth it, he was out like a light.

I dug through my purse then and got my phone as quick as I could and dialled 911. The operator said that the police and paramedics were on their way but told me to tie up Michael just in case he did wake up before they made it to the scene.

She stayed on the phone with me while I searched through my house for anything I could find that would hold him just until someone came. I was about to give up when I thought of my soap on a rope.

I ran to the bathroom and grabbed it out of the shower, then ripped the soap clean off. When I made it to the front door he was still laying there thank God. I managed to get him tied to a table before he woke up.

"Cassie?" He questioned when he awoke. I just stared blankly at him until it clicked with him what was going on.

"Oh, right." He seemed slightly ashamed but who knew if he really was. He was a good actor apparently.

"So is this the kind of thing you're into? Tying people up? I mean, I don't have a problem with it, I'm up for any kind of foreplay you want." He winked and laughed as if he he had some sort of power over me when it was really the opposite.

"The police are going to be here soon, I hope your jail cell is comfortable." I said with a smile and walked away coolly to my room so he couldn't bother me any more.

No more than five minutes later the police were there escorting Michael out of the building. Two of them stayed with me and asked me to go through everything that happened while I was being checked by the paramedics.

Once I finished recounting every detail of the story with them twice, they assured me that Michael would go to jail for his actions then left me alone. As soon as they were out the door I let my wall down and I broke.

After a few hours lying in bed crying, I managed to calm down enough to leave my room to get a glass of water. No more tears, I told myself.

When I got to the kitchen I noticed the empty grocery bags in the garbage, as well as my purse and keys laid next to each other on the table. Bless the officers who did that for me, I thought. It was a huge relief to not have to face the mess that was previously lying on the floor by my front door.

I got my glass of water then sat at the kitchen table, I wasn't sat down long before I heard my phone vibrate. I dug through my purse and when I found it I had 3 missed calls from James and 2 texts.

From: James
I tried calling but you aren't answering, is everything alright?

From: James
Seriously Cass are you okay? What's going on? Text or call me as soon as you get this.

I immediately felt bad that he was so worried so I quickly dialled his number. He picked up just after the first ring.

"Cass?" I could hear the concern laced in his voice. It made my heart break a little because I knew that once he found out what happened he would be mad at himself for not being there, although there was nothing he could have done. It was his job to be away sometimes.

"I'm so sorry I didn't answer you, my phone was in the kitchen and I was in my room so I didn't even hear it." I told him the half truth because I didn't want him to worry any more than he already did. I figured it would be best to wait to tell him until he came back. He had his last road game coming up that he should've been thinking about and I didn't want him worrying about me instead of doing his
job.

"Oh, I guess I kind of overreacted then eh?" He laughed nervously and I could tell he was rubbing the back of his neck as he walked around his hotel room.

"It's okay Jamie."

"But seriously, please don't freak me out like that ever again." He said sternly.

"I promise."

"Good. Guess what?" I could hear the smile in his voice.

"What?" I smiled too, his happiness always spread to me no matter what was going on.

"I'm coming home in a little more than a day and we're going on our first date." He said excitedly. That guy was something else.

"Oh you've already got it planned out?" I said as I stood up from my seat in the kitchen to walk back to my room.

"Yeah, why?" I could hear his confusion through the phone.

"What if I changed my mind?" I pretended to be serious as I flopped down on my bed. Teasing him was one of my favourite things to do.

"Then I guess you'd be missing out on the time of your life and I'd look like a fool on a date by myself." He joked back.

"Well I guess I can't let that happen then." I smiled.

"You better not. Anyway I should go now, I'm glad to know you're alive though." He laughed but I couldn't join him, if only he actually knew what did happen and what could've happened.

"Have a good night Jamie."

"You too Cass." I heard the click of him hanging up and the line went dead.

The next day, I just had a lazy day around the house until Josie came over at 7 to watch the game that started at 8.

"Oh my god what happened to you?" Was the first thing that came out of her mouth when I opened the door. I had a fairly nasty bruise on one of my cheekbones and a black eye on the other side, my arms were covered in bruises too and I had cuts on my hands from the vase.

"I fell, it's nothing. Do you want to make some nachos before the game starts?" I hoped she'd believe my lie and let it go.

"Cassie, there's finger marks on you arms and you obviously got punched in the face. Tell me what happened." She wasn't stupid, and I couldn't think of another lie quick enough so I just put it simply.

"Michael happened."

"Oh my god Cassie are you okay?" She asked with worry written all over her face.

"I am now, sort of. He's going to jail so I shouldn't have to deal with him any more."

"Hopefully." She agreed.

She dropped her clothes bag off in my room, then we headed to the kitchen to get a start on our game snack.

"So what did James say about it all?" She asked after I explained the story in more detail to her while we made some nachos.

"He doesn't know..." I said quietly.

"WHAT? You didn't tell him?!" She said, and stopped whatever she was doing to turn and look at me across the room.

"I don't want him to worry about something he can't control when he should be focusing on doing his job." I said matter of factly, then turned back around to put some more of the cheese I grated on top of the nacho chips. She walked over to me and spun me around by the shoulder before she spoke.

"You need to tell him." She looked at me seriously, trying to convince me.

"He'll understand. I'm helping him by waiting until he comes back to tell him." I walked across the room to grab the veggies she cut up, then I put them over the top of the nachos.

"We both know that's not true Cassie, and what if he finds out from somewhere else first? Then what?"

"It'll be fine. There's no way he could find out from somewhere else, you're the only person I told." I put some more cheese over the top of the nachos then threw them into the oven.

"Okay."

The rest of the night went by quickly. We watched the boys win their game against the Senators 3-2, Pauly scored the game winner in overtime. Once it was over, we set an alarm so we would wake up on time to go pick up the guys from the airport, then we flopped into bed and fell asleep.
