Chapter Ten - Becoming Reality

*Chelsea's POV*
The girls night in that Britt had planned was just the perfect ending to that day. Us girls talked about our boyfriends, the baby and a million other things. Things got a little messy when we gave each other facials though, but what do you expect? We act like teenage girls half the time, and this time we actually had a teenage girl with us. We actually even brainstormed a few baby names. Yeah, I know, it's still rather early and I had no clue of the gender, but it was fun. My favorite names were Alanna, Harper, Tessa, Stella, Dylan, Jace and of course Brandon. I hoped Brandon would like a few of those names as well, especially since there were so many girl names to choose from.
It's been a few weeks since I went over to Tylers, he's in Dallas now. Patrick, Stacey, Brandon and I all said goodbye to him at the airport. I promised him, again, that I would be getting my Dallas jersey as soon as I found out what number he chose. He still hadn't told me anything about that, he still felt a little bit of resentment towards the Bruins organization for trading him. Honestly, I couldn't blame him, but I didn't know everything behind it as I didn't want to get into that with him. When I promised Tyler about getting his jersey, I got a weird look from not only Brandon but Patrick as well. It isn't that big of a deal, it's just a jersey. I have a Saad and Kane one, well two Kane jersey's but one is personalized, to support them. Why can't I have one to support a good friend of mine? Brushing if off, we all went out to dinner. First time I was having sushi, but then again it was Patrick's idea. After he started getting sushi before games with Bryan, I never knew he even liked it. I had to admit, it was pretty good.
Getting home late last night, I ended up getting up late this morning. Checking my phone, like I usually do first, I notice that I have about three missed calls from Patrick and one from Brandon. Well, at least I knew who the overbearing one was. I call Patrick back, only for him to sound uneasy and inviting me over for lunch. He only gave me half an hour to get ready before Stacey would be done cooking. That wasn't much time for a girl. I still had to take a shower and a whole bunch of other girly things.
Doing everything in record time, I'm on my way to his house within twenty minutes. It would take me about fifteen minutes to get there, but that was okay. He knew me, almost always a few minutes late anywhere I go. Like I thought, I arrived at his house five minutes late. Quickly getting out of the car, locking it as I walked up to the front door and let myself in. Setting my purse and keys down on the end table in their foyer, I wipe my feet off on the welcome mat before initially stepping into the house.
Entering the kitchen, I see Patrick and Stacey having a bit of a couple moment. Clearing my throat, Stacey instantly blushes and Patrick rolls his eyes at my condescending look.
"Well it's about time you got here." Patrick scolds, his smirk giving away that he was joking.
"Didn't look like you minded me being a few minutes late." I reply, looking down at my freshly painted nails as if I wasn't interested in what he was saying.
"Yeah, well, I'm just glad you made it." Patrick says sincerely, wrapping me up in a hug.
"Whatever." I mutter as I hug him back.
"Both of you, sit down, the food's getting cold!" Stacey urges, pointing towards the dinner table.
Listening to Stacey, we both take a seat. Patrick sits at the head of the table while I'm on his right side and Stacey's on his left, it felt kind of weird to be honest. Not sure why though, it just did.
"So Chelsea, how have you been?" Stacey inquires, stirring her soup to cool it down a bit.
"I'm good. There's something I need to tell you actually." I say quitely, staring down at my own bowl of soup. I felt both of their eyes on me, so I look back up towards Patrick shyly. "I'm pregnant."
In the moment I said those two words, time seemed to freeze. Nobody moved and it didn't seem like anyone was even breathing. I was only sure about one person holding their breath, and that was me.
"You're what?" Patrick asks, finally breaking the silence.
"I'm pregnant." I repeat, staring back at him into his eyes.
"Whose the father? Please don't say Tyler, I love the kid, but I just can't see him being a father yet." Patrick inquires, his tone taking a more on a serious tone now.
"Please don't be mad at either of us Patrick, it's Brandon's." I reply softly, hoping he doesn't overreact.
His facial features soften, and relief washes over his expression. "I can't say I'm glad for you two, but I am glad it's someone I can trust one hundred percent with you." Patrick tells me.
"How far along are you sweetie?" Stacey asks, a smile forming on her lips. I could tell she was getting excited, she loved babies. I couldn't wait for her and Patrick to start a family after they get married.
"About seven or eight weeks now, I think. I'm not sure, I have a doctors appointment later with Brandon so we can officially find out." I say, not looking away from Patrick. I wasn't entirely sure how he felt about all of this, and his features were hard to read right now.
The rest of the time I spent there, it was mostly Stacey and I talking about the baby. We both hope it's a little girl, she absolutely adored the names Harper and Tessa when I told her what I was thinking of. Patrick just kind of shook his head and laughed a few times. I think the fact he was going to be an uncle was finally settling in and making him somewhat happy now.
Feeling my phone vibrating in my pocket, I pull it out to see that Brandon is calling me. Sliding to answer it, I get up and go to the living room for a bit of privacy.
"Hey Brandon."
"Hey Chels. Where are you right now?"
"At Patricks, why?"
"The appointment is in two hours, I asked Britt if you were home and she said no. Didn't tell me where you were though, I was just wondering."
"Haha yeah, I just stopped by for lunch. Told them the news too."
"How did Patrick take the news?"
"I think he's happier now, pretty sure it's the feeling of being an uncle that makes him all warm and fuzzy inside."
"Well that's good. Now I don't have to worry about him trying to beat me up at the next practice.""Oh he wouldn't beat you up."
"Yeah I would." Patrick interupts, shouting in the background. "Stop eavesdropping you idiot." I yell back.
"Well, that's reassuring. So, are we going to meet there or go together?"
"I was just about to go back home, you can pick me up from there. I'd rather go together."
"Fine by me. See you soon."
And that was the end of our phone conversation. Walking back into the kitchen, I smack Patrick on the back of the head as I pass by him. He makes an attempt at getting me back, but fails miserably as I duck at the last second.
"Now, now children. Don't make me seperate you." Stacey says sternly, waving her finger at us. That causes Patrick and I to erupt in a fit of laughter. Giving in, Stacey joins in laughing with us.
"Well, I'm gonna head back home. Thanks for the lunch you two!" I say, giving Stacey a hug and Patrick a stink-eye. "Maybe not you Patrick, but it's always a pleasure with you Stacey." I add with a mischevious grin.
"You can come over any time you want, you have a house key after all!" Stacey exclaims happily. "I can't wait for when you come over with the baby! He/she will be spoiled by their favorite Aunt Stacey!"
"You'll have four other aunt's to compete with." I point out, picking up my purse and keys.
"Yeah well I already know your little one will love me the most." Stacey winks, making me laugh again.
"We'll see. See ya later!" I call out to her as I start walking towards my car, starting it with the automatic start button.

Sitting in the doctors office was nerve-wracking. I was very fortunate to have Brandon with me though. I might have gone insane otherwise.
"You okay?" Brandon asks, noticing my left leg bouncing up and down.
"Yeah I'm fine. I just don't really like waiting, that's all." I murmur, trying to stop my leg from doing what it's doing. I fail completely though.
"You're nervous aren't you?" He asks again.
"Yeah." I say, glancing over at him.
"Chelsea, you have no reason to be nervous. Everything will be fine. Stop worrying about it." He says, firmly placing his hand on my knee.
"But, what if something's wrong? There's always that what if in everything." I persist.
"Chelsea Kane?" An older woman calls out, the anxietly quickly returning as she does so.
"Coming." I reply, standing up.
Brandon takes a firm hold of my hand as we walk towards the door where the woman is.
"We'll just have a few questions for you, is this the father?" She asks, moving out of the way to let us through.
"Yeah, I am." Brandon replies for me. I smile widely as Brandon squeezes my hand gently.
"Yeah, handsome isn't he?" I joke.
"Sure is, my name is Marie by the way, just follow me over here and we'll get your vitals first." Marie states, leading us towards a room.
After she takes my vitals, we're lead to another room with all of the ultrasound equipment. To be honest, it didn't look as scary as I thought. I'm not sure why I thought it would be scary though, probably just my nerves. It was always my nerves that got to me, not matter what situation I managed to get myself in. This situation just happened to be a very major, life-changing situation.
"The ultrasound tech should be in shortly. Until then, change into that gown if you want, it isn't necessary." Marie says, "But most importantly, make yourself comfortable. I can tell you're nervous, there's no reason to be nervous hun."
Smiling shyly, I get myself comfortable on the cushioned table. Leaning back and resting my head on the headrest, I close my eyes briefly.
"See, even the nurse Marie thinks you shouldn't be nervous. Just relax babe, it'll be fine." Brandon says, pushing the hair out of my face and placing a tender kiss on my forehead.
"I can't help it Brandon, this is my first time being pregnant. It's kind of a big deal." I argue, "Besides, we aren't even married, or remotely close to that stage. I'm worried about what people will think, and what my parent's will think."
"Chelsea, it's okay. I know we aren't exactly close to the whole marriage business yet, but that doesn't mean I'm just going to up and leave you if something bad happens to you or the baby. I told you, I'm here for you. No matter what." Brandon states effortlessly. It was like he practiced that speech a million times in his head before saying it to me.
"Brandon-" I get cut off by the door opening and the ultrasound tech walking in, a bright and cheery smile on her lips.
"Hello there Miss Kane, Kane.. that sounds familiar. You don't happen to be related to Patrick Kane do you?" She asks, her eyes studying me carefully.
"Yeah, that twat happens to be my brother." I tease, laughing a little.
"Huh, not everyday do I get to meet the sisters of NHL athletes." She says, putting a pair of those sterile green gloves on. "Is he the daddy?" She asks, looking towards Brandon before turning to face the fancy computer.
"Yeah, he plays in the NHL too. Same team as my brother." I state carefully, feeling like she already knew that. We are in a Chicago hospital after all. The same one where the players go for treatment if anything major happens on the ice.
"Oh really, I thought you looked familiar. Brandon Saad, correct?" She inquires, getting up and rummaging through one of the cabinets pulling out a few towels. "I'll need you to pull up your shirt and pull your pants down just a smidge, then place the towels over your clothing. Don't want to get the gel on your clothes, not like it'll do any harm though."
Doing as she says, her and Brandon make small talk while she gets everything else ready and while I get myself situated the way she told me to. Somewhere in there, she mentions her name, Trish.
"Are you ready to see your baby?" She asks, placing the cold gel on my lower stomach. Shrugging, Brandon takes ahold of my hand again, rubbing small calming circles into the back of it with his thumb. She places the hand-held device onto my stomach, moving it around to spread the gel over my stomach. My eyes, as well as Brandon's are glued to the computer screen. At first, I didn't see a thing. Then this little bubble looking thing came into view.
"That's your baby!" Trish exclaims excitedly, pointing to the little bean-shaped thing inside the bubble. That is my baby. That really is my baby. My precious little baby. "You look about three and a half months along. And you're hardly showing, lucky lady you are!"
"Thanks, yeah that sounds about right, now that I think about it. I wasn't positive on how far along I was." I admit, a silly smile plastered on my lips. Tears were threatening to spill over, this was probably one of the best moments of my life. "The baby looks healthy right?"
"Yeah, nothing seems to be wrong with it. You haven't been drinking or smoking lately, have you?" She asks, giving me a stern look.
"Well, I did once. It was just a little wine, before I found out I was pregnant of course. I haven't drank anything since." I say truthfully.
"Good, everything looks okay. Do you want pictures printed out?" Trish asks, pressing a few buttons.
"Yeah, I'd like that." I murmur, looking at the screen once again.
"Okay, I'll be back in a few minutes. You can wipe off all the excess gel with the towels. Just put them on the counter when you're done with them." Trish says, exiting the room.
"See, I told you the baby was fine. Everything is fine, nothing to worry about." Brandon says to me, an 'I told you so' look evident in his expression.
"Oh shut up. You know how I worry about everything. You've known me long enough." I mutter, wiping the gel off of my stomach. Pulling and buttoning my jeans back up, as well as pulling my shirt back down, I swing my legs over the side of the table so I could face Brandon.
"That I have, and I've also known you long enough to know exactly how I feel about you right now." Brandon states, hinting towards something. That something I was unsure of.
"What do you mean, how you feel about me now?" I ask, clearly confused.
"I've known you long enough, and though we weren't dating for the most part of our knowing each other, I know right in this moment that I'm falling in love with you." Brandon says, taking both of my hands in his own. Those words are just enough to cause the tears that were already threatening to spill over, to actually run down my cheeks.
"Oh Brandon, I feel the same way." I say breathlessly, pulling him close to me and embracing him tightly, never wanting to let go.
"Good, I'm glad." He whispers into my ear.
We break apart, only because Trish had returned, a few photos of the ultrasound in her hand.
"Here ya go. Hot off the press, just for you!" Trish says, handing the photos over to me.
"Thank you Trish." I say, taking them into my own hands and placing them into my purse.
"If you ever want me, specifically, just ask one of the front office ladies. I'd love to help you through this journey." Trish states, blushing slightly.
"Thanks Trish, I'll be sure to remember that." I say kindly, a warm smile forming on my glossy pink lips. Using my free hand, I wiped away any of the lingering tears.
"It was nice meeting you both!" Trish says as we leave the room.
"It was nice meeting you too, Trish." Brandon replies with a smile.

Since Brandon knew Andrew would be out today, we went back to his place for some peace and quiet for a while. We talked for a bit before turning on the tv to watch something. Since it was a bit chilly in Brandon's apartment, he got me a blanket that we shared. Eventually I dozed off, and I think Brandon did too. It seemed like fate was trying to bring us together, we both told each other today that we were falling for each other. Soon enough, I knew I'd be truly in love with him. I couldn't wait to finally feel that way about someone. Two someones actually, the little baby inside me was going to be the other true love in my life. Hopefully the rest of this pregnancy, and relationship go smoothly.
