Love Doesn't Come Easy

Daddy's Little Girl

{Flashback}

"Where are you going young lady?" Her father asked her, as she came skipping down the stairs.

"Out daddy," she replied, with a smile, walking over to the coat rack and grabbing her coat.

"Where?" Her father asked again, she could hear the rustle of his newspaper as he sat it down. She could hear him getting out of his chair and walk to the doorway.

"With some friend's. Don't worry so much daddy," she replied, going over and kissing him on the cheek.

"Is he going to be there?" He asked seriously.

"Who?" She asked innocently, even throwing in batting her eyelashes for good measure.

"Oh don't act like you don't know who I'm talking about. Is he going to be there?" Her father asked again.

"Daddy you know we're dating. So yes, most likely he will be there with me," she answered, shaking her head.

"I don't like it baby. I don't like it one bit. He's two years older than you. Even though I know we agreed we wouldn't talk about players on my team you may or may not date. And I like to think of you as my little girl, my innocent little girl. Although I know your sexually active," her father says, clearly becoming uncomfortable talking about her sex life. His finger slides into the neck of his sweater and tugged on it, like it was choking him.

"So what about it?" She asks confusedly, burrowing her eyebrows together.

"Baby I'm just afraid you've become locker room talk," her father sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"Jeff wouldn't do that to me. He loves me," she denies, shaking her head.

"I know you think that baby," her father replies, sadness washing over his face.

"Jeff wouldn't do that dad," she huffed, barely containing the anger she felt building. Putting her hands on her hips.

"Katharine I know you want to think the best of him honey. But the truth of the matter is. Is that in fact you have become locker room talk, in my locker room. And I don't like hearing my daughter talked about like that," her father states firmly.

"I don't believe you," she replies in disbelief, shaking her head.

"Baby there's a video going around with you on it. I've seen it myself and Jeff's been talking about it," her father states.

"No," she whispers.

"Katharine," her father says gently, stepping towards her.

"NO," she says louder, shaking her head.

She backs towards the door with tears in her eyes. Just as the front door opens and her mother steps in shaking the snow off that had fallen on her. Kathrine pulls her coat tighter against her body, as she turns towards her mother.

"Are you going out Kat?" Her mother asks, taking her coat off.

"Yeah," Kat whispers.

"Alright well be careful," her mother replies.

Kat nods knowing that she's not going to get much more out of her mother. Her mother for as long as Kat could remember had always worked long second shifts at the emergency room as a nurse. All her mom wanted to do when she got home was sleep. Kat dashes out of her house after that. She had to find out if what her father had said was true. She couldn't believe or wouldn't believe that Jeff would do that to her. It didn't matter that two years separated them, they loved each other. No matter what they loved each other.

{Present Day}

Kat sighed as she walked over to one of the stations and placed the order she had taken from one of her tables. After placing the order she discreetly reached down and tried to pull down her for a better term "booty shorts" shorts. It wasn't that she was ashamed of her body. She knew she had plenty of curves, long legs, a good sized chest. Her boobs were neither too big or too small, at least she had never heard any complaints in that area from the guys she had slept with. She also knew she a had a nice backside.

In fact she had worn far less for a job, than what she was wearing right now. But for a waitressing job, she felt exposed. Especially when her ass cheeks were hanging half-way out. And although she felt as if her breast's were perfect. They weren't quiet big enough to fit the small top her job required her to wear, like the rest of the girls did. Of course the rest of the girls were all fake, unlike her which was all natural.

"Kit Kat," another waitress named Megan, said skipping up next to Kat.

"Hey Meg," Kat replied, turning her head towards her,

"So your like from Canada, right?" Megan asked, popping a bubble on a piece of gum she was chewing.

"Uh yes," She replied, slightly confused.

She was pretty sure she had mentioned before that she was Canadian.

"So you like know all about hockey and hockey players, right?" Megan asked, popping her gum again and twirling a piece of her hair.

"Uh yes," Kat replied again, fighting the urge to roll her eyes at the stereotype and raising her eyebrow.

"So my boyfriend is a hockey player. And I don't know if you know this but the NHL is in a lockout," Megan said still twirling her hair, with a far off look in her eyes.

"Your boyfriend?" Kat asked carefully, as she looked over Megan's shoulder at her girlfriend who was scowling at the pair of them.

Although Kat had escaped here to LA eight years ago to follow her dreams and get away from the one guy who had destroyed her. She hadn't made it yet. Kat had always thought she had been diligent with her acting and singing practices. But evidently all the hard work hadn't paid off yet. Now eight years later she still found herself stuck in Los Angeles working three dead end jobs and barely making enough to survive. But she was still too proud to ask her parents for any help. Although she had been here for awhile she hadn't really made any friends. Now she wouldn't really call Megan a good friend, but Megan was someone who had helped her find one of her jobs and who she talked to on a regular basis at work.

Kat had heard rumors though from other people that Megan was a lesbian. Not that Kat had problems with gays or lesbians, just as long as they didn't try and hit on her or flaunt it in her face. She had also heard that Megan was bi-sexual, which made a whole lot more sense to Katharine.

"Hello earth to Kat," Megan said, waving her hand in front of her face.

"Uh what?" Kat asked shaking her head, snapping out of it.

"Canada..... Hockey players..... Hockey," Megan replied, in a duh tone.

'Oh yes'Kat thought. She knew all about the league being locked out. Everybody and anybody who followed hockey knew about the damn lockout. Katharine lived and breathed hockey since the day she was born. But she really didn't tell people that, in fact she didn't tell people much about herself.

"Right yes, I know about hockey and the lockout," Kat replied.

"So do you know any professional players?" Megan asked.

"Yeah I know a few," Kat answered, not giving any more than that.

"Oh ok....." Megan said, trailing off realizing that Kat wasn't going to give her any more information.

"Well anyways so my boyfriend plays for the LA Kings and his birthday is tomorrow. And well he's been really down about about not playing recently. So I was thinking about throwing him a surprise party tonight. I mean I know it's New Years and all and you probably have plans an all. But one of the girls who was going to help tonight bailed and I was wondering if you would be able to work tonight. I mean it's ok if you can't. I know this is last minute and everything," Megan rambled quickly, and Kat wondered if she would pass out from not taking a breath.

"Ok..... Ok.... Ok, relax and take a deep breath girl. You may pass out from not taking a breath. And we don't want that, do we? Anyways no I don't have any plans for tonight. I was just going to get a bottle of wine and chill at home tonight," Kat replied, putting her hands on Megan's shoulders.

"So you'll do it?" Megan asked.

"Katharine and Megan orders are up," one of the cooks called from the pick up window.

"Yeah sure just remind me before I leave today," Kat answered, looking over her shoulder at the order.

"Oh thank you... Thank you.... Thank you, you are a life saver Katharine," Megan replied, practically bouncing up and down in her spot.

"Yeah ok," Kat replied, rolling her eyes playfully.

After that Kat and Megan both got their orders and went on with their days as usual. Before she left the restaurant she promised Megan again that she would be there. Getting directions to where she needed to be at and what time.

While she was walking home Kat couldn't help but wonder what would happen tonight. Yes she knew who the LA Kings were and yes she knew who was on the team. She had avoided him for eight years. Even when he was playing for Philadelphia and they played the Kings. She had been lucky enough to avoid him. Although she had been a mess when she found out he was getting traded to LA. She still had been great full that she was in a big enough town that it was unlikely to run into him. Even at the end of the year last year, she had taken the chance and went to the very last Stanley Cup game. The one where they won the cup. Sure she had seen him celebrate with his teammates and family. At one point she even thought he had seen her. But luckily she had gotten out of there without having to talk to him.

But she wondered if her luck would run out tonight. Surely he would be there tonight to celebrate his teammates birthday. Especially since tonight was also his birthday. But maybe just maybe he would be out of town.

A girl can hope, right?
