Love Doesn't Come Easy

Can't Stop Won't Stop

{Two Months Later}

Kat sighed pulling her ponytail off her neck and twisting it to make a bun. Than sticking the pencil she just took an order with in it to hold it in place. Fisting her hands and rubbing at her eyes, she tried to keep them open. She was tired and exhausted and hot. She was about to give up on her dream and head back home. She missed Canada, like really missed it. Even though she had lived in California for the past ten years, she still hadn't gotten used to the weather.

She was tired of always being hot and sweating. She would rather be in the cold and snow. She was tired of the microwave meals and takeout, she missed home cooked meals. Also when she had first moved down here it was more about it being something new and exciting. Now the something new and exciting had worn off. Plus the people in LA were still rude and stuck up, in her opinion.

Plus if she were honest with herself she was avoiding a certain someone again. It had been two whole months since the whole finding each other, New Years, Birthday, sleeping together fiasco had happened. Kat had once again successfully avoided Jeff since that night. Not that she actually expected him to find her. LA was a huge town after all and he had no clue where she worked. Although if he really wanted to find her he could've asked Megan where she worked.

Although she had heard that Jeff and Megan had broke up shortly after New Years. She hadn't found that out from Megan herself, in fact she hadn't really talked to Megan since that night. They would talk every now and than, but that had mainly been about work related stuff. No in fact she had found out from Jennifer, her and Jennifer had been talking more. Jennifer had told her the news with a knowing look on her face and Kat had half expected her to call her out on it. Or at least tell Megan.

She had spent days avoiding Megan after the New Years. She had noticed that Megan had sent a few glares a few times. Than had waited for the moment where Megan went off on her. But that moment never came and she went on with her day to day life.

But it was days like these that Kat hated the most. The days were the stuck up College kids and people with money came into the restaurant. Where the college guys smacked her on the ass whenever she walked by or the rich snobs stuck there noses up at her, like they were so much better than her.

"God it's so busy today and I'm dead on my feet," Megan said coming up next to her.

"I know me too," Kat sighed, looking over at her after punching in her order.

"Those college guys giving you trouble again?" Megan asked, leaning back against the counter and crossing her arms. Than looked at Kat's table full of college guys.

"Of course what else? It's like they have nothing better to do on a Friday night than to come bug me. I'm sure they could find something more interesting to do," Kat chuckled, rolling her eyes.

She glanced over at the table she had every Friday night and was filled with the same college guys each time. It wasn't that she minded regulars, it was the fact she had expressed several times she wasn't interested in any of them. But they still asked her out, made the same crude comments and smacked her ass.

"Very true..... So what are you doing tonight?" Megan asked.

"Nothing that I know of. Probably just go home, eat one of my microwave meals and go to sleep. Why?" She asked.

"Well I was wondering if tonight you would...... What is he doing here?" Megan started, than trailed off changing the subject. Her nose scrunching up.

"Who?" Kat asked, turning to see Jeff, Mike and a few of their teammates walk in.

"I'll be back. I'm going to go see what he wants," Megan said, pushing off the counter and walking towards Jeff.

Kat watched as Megan walked towards the group of waiting men. She felt a pang of jealousy course through her as Megan wrapped her arms around Jeff in a tight hug. Jeff's eyes meet hers over Megan's shoulder. Shaking her head she turned from the scene in front of her. She had no reason to feel jealous, Jeff wasn't hers anymore. He hadn't been hers for a long time. She should have known better than to sleep with him that night.

Picking up her order Kat carried the tray of food over to the college boys table and started handing out the plates.

"Can I get you guys anything else?" She asked, after setting down the last plate and looked around the table.

"Just your phone number and when we can go on a date," one of the guys laughed.

"Sorry that's not going to happen," she replied.

"Why not sweetheart?" Another guy asked, sitting closer to where she was standing. She tried not to cringe when he grabbed her ass.

"Sorry fellows but this ones taken and I need to grab her for a moment," Megan answered, coming up next to her and grabbing her arm lightly and pulling her away.

"What was that? I was handling that just fine by myself," Kat asked, pulling her arm out of Megan's grasp.

"Sure you were," Megan replied, rolling her eyes. "Besides Jeff was about to blow a gasket watching that guy touching you."

"So?" Kat replied.

"Look Kat I'm not as stupid as everyone seems to think I am. I know you slept and spent the night with Jeff on his birthday," Megan replied, crossing her arms.

"I...... I...... I ummmmm...... I didn't mean for that to happen Megan.... I didn't mean for him to cheat on you with me.... It's just....." Kat replied shocked at Megan's admission. She had, had the feeling that Megan knew but just never confronted her about it. But she couldn't believe she was going to do it at work.

"Look I'll be honest I wasn't happy about it when I found out. I wanted to kick your ass....."

"I'm sorry Megan," Kat cut her off.

"Don't.... Just listen," Megan said now cutting her off, and holding up a hand to stop her from talking. Than grabbed her arm again pulling her more off to the side of the restaurant.

"Look honestly I was hurt by what happened. But I always knew what Jeff and I had wasn't going to last. What Jeff and I had was fun while it lasted. But I knew he never loved me and probably never would. I knew there was someone else who held his heart. I knew that since Jeff and I started dating. He never really talked about the person who held his heart, but I could always tell there were times his mind would wonder off. I figured he was thinking about that other person. So one day I started going through some of Jeff's things and I found an old picture of Jeff and this girl. I could see how much he loved her in that picture. Do you know who was in that picture Kat?" Megan asked her, looking at her intensively.

"N... No," Kat stuttered.

"Oh come on Kat, don't act stupid." Megan replied, a semi scowl coming on her face.

"Look Megan," Kat said.

"No let me finish. And since your going to act like you know who it was. I'll tell you who it was. It was you," Megan said pointedly.

Kat wasn't sure what to say at that point.

"Oh come on Kat you haven't changed that much. You pretty much look the same as you did back than. You've just matured more," Megan laughed, dropping the scowl.

"Wait so your not mad?" Kat asked shocked.

"No I was. But I wasn't mad for the reason you think. Like I said I knew Jeff wasn't my forever and that we didn't love each other. The fact of the matter is I love Jennifer and well Jeff's still madly in love with you. So go get your man back," Megan said.

"I.... I can't. It's not that simple," Kat answered, shaking her head.

"Look Kat I don't know what happened between you two. But I do know that whatever it was that Jeff has regretted it ever since than. But I can tell you this true love never runs smooth. But from what I could see in that picture you guys really did love each other," Megan told her.

"I don't know," Kat said, shaking her head.

"Yes you do. What does your heart tell you?" Megan asked.

"That I still love him. But I don't know if I can go through that again," she answered honestly. She couldn't believe she was having this discussion at work and with Megan of all people.

"Look Kit Kat, love doesn't come easy. But don't let your fear of what you don't know hold you back. I did that for far too long with Jennifer. Now go get your man," Megan told her.

"I can't," she replied.

"Yes you can," Megan told her sternly. "Now go before someone steals your man again. You never know I may try again," Megan told her.

"I...."

"Go before I change my mind," Megan said sternly, pushing her lightly.

Kat took a deep breath and turned and started walking towards the table Jeff and Mike and the guys were sitting at. Arriving at the table all the guys turned there attention towards her.

"Jeff can I talk to you, alone?" Kat asked shyly.

"Sure," Jeff replied, nodding his head and standing up.

Kat followed behind him as he walked towards the door. Kat looked back before walking outside and saw Megan and Jennifer standing besides the guys table. Megan and Jennifer had smiles on their faces and Mike was giving her a thumbs up, with a huge smile on his face.

They walked down the sidewalk side by side a few feet from the restaurant in silence. Both of their minds running wild with what to say to each other. Kat wasn't sure exactly what to say or how to start their conversation.

"So, what'd ya what to talk about?" Jeff asked, breaking the silence.

"Ummmm, look I'm sorry I just ran out the morning after your birthday," she replied.

"Are you?" He asked, tilting his head and looking at her.

"Yes," she replied.

"Than why did you Kitty Kat?" He asked, still watching her.

She shifted uncomfortably under his intense gaze.

"I don't know. I think I was just scared," she replied.

"Why?" He asked, taking a step closer.

"What do mean?" She asked, confusedly.

"Why were you scared Kitty Kat?" He asked again, taking another step closer.

"Oh I don't know Jeff. Maybe besides the fact you had a girlfriend. I thought maybe you would regret what happened between us," she answered sarcastically.

"I would never regret sleeping with you Kat," he told her softly, closing the gap between them.

Jeff placed his hands on her cheeks and lifted her face to look into his eyes.

"I've missed you Kat," he told her, brushing his thumbs over her cheeks.

"So what does this mean? What happens now?" She asked, looking into his eyes.

"What do you want to happen?" He asked.

"I don't know Jeff. There's a lot that has happened to us in the past. We can't just go back to how we used to be. There's too many things we have to discuss and work out," she answered honestly.

"I know we do. And your right we can't just can back to how we used to be. But we're both adults now and I think we can discuss it like adults. But I'm telling you right now Kat, I don't want to loose you again," he told her.

"Jeff," she sighed.

"No Kat. I want you to know I never stopped loving you," he told her, pressing his forehead against hers.

"I know," she whispered.

"I don't think I can ever stop loving you and I won't ever stop loving you," he told her, kissing her forehead.

"I better let you get back inside." He said, pulling away and grabbing her hand. They both walked back towards the restaurant.

"Wait, so what does this mean?" Kat asked, pulling them to a stop right outside the restaurant.

"This means we're going to start all over. That we're going to start getting to know each other again. That when I get back from this road trip I'm taking you on a date. And that I'm never letting you go ever again," Jeff replied, with a smile.

Kat couldn't help the smile that broke out on her face and knew that everything may not go smoothly with them. But relationships took work. But she knew this time it would be alright. That sometimes you had to go through hard stuff, had to over come bumps in the road. But she knew she would never let Jeff go again.
