I'm With You (Don't Tell Me)

Chapter 11

When Jane left the bathroom, hair already dried and falling around her shoulder, she bumped into Viktor, who was just passing the bathroom on his way to the bedroom.
“What’s it with you and walking into me?” he asked with a laugh, putting his hands on her upper arms to steady her. “You just can’t keep your hand and your body off me, can you?”
Abby’s words played in her mind again. Just use him for sex. Her eyes widened and she quickly shook her head. No, this was not a good idea. She was working here, and you didn’t mix business with pleasure.
“Get over yourself.” Jane gave his shoulder a little shove, and started to walk away from him, but he got hold of her wrist and pulled her close again. He put his free hand on her side. Her eyes found his, her heart suddenly beating rapidly in her chest. “What are you doing?”
He didn’t answer her. Instead he let go of her wrist and traced her lips with his thumb. Her eyes fluttered shut for a second, before she continued looking at him. He went on to push her hair behind her ear, grazed the side of her neck with his fingertips, causing her to shiver.
“Interesting,” Viktor whispered pulling her even closer, his lips inches from hers.
“What?” she couldn’t keep herself from asking.
“You. That you just told me to get over myself and yet here you are, in my arms, enjoying everything I do to you. You can’t deny that.”
As if suddenly realizing what was happening, Jane disentangled herself from him and quickly straightened her clothes. She was usually never at a loss for words, but this time she couldn’t find one thing to say to him.
“I’m going to buy some food. If you need anything, text me.” Her heart still racing, she put on her boots, grabbed her purse and coat and shut the door with a bang.
Viktor stared after her, blinking a couple of times, unable to process what had just happened. He wanted to get a reaction from her. And he did. But that reaction hadn’t been the one he’d expected. If she hadn’t pulled away, he was pretty sure he’d have kissed her. It might have been wrong of him to have done this, but feeling her body this close to his had felt far too good.

About two weeks later they were at the hospital again. They hadn’t talked about what had happened in front of the bathroom. When Jane had returned she’d acted as if nothing had happened, so Viktor had played along. Today they were taking off his cast, so he had to use both of his crutches again.
“How are you feeling?” Jane looked up at him with a grin on her lips. She remembered what she had felt like the last time this had happened to her.
“Free!” he said with a laugh. “And I don’t really need the crutches, because my foot feels fine.”
“But you’re still going to use them, right?” She raised an eyebrow in question.
“Out here definitely. Maybe not at home. It all depends.”
“Just make sure you won’t break it again.”
“That’s what I have you for.”
“Yeah, because I’ll break more of your bones if you mess up your foot, you hear that?”
Viktor laughed at that and nudged her elbow. On their way back they took a detour to Nathan’s room, but he wasn’t there. He was being examined and tested, and it would take at least another hour until he would be back. They decided to come back another day.
Back at the apartment Viktor immediately put the crutches away under the watchful gaze of Jane. She didn’t say a word, she just took off her coat and boots and walked to the kitchen. Her hair was pulled up in a ponytail, because it had annoyed her that morning.
Viktor watched her from the door while she was looking in the fridge. He hadn’t said a word about the situation a week ago when they’d nearly kissed, but that didn’t mean that he hadn’t been thinking about it. Quite the opposite.
Carefully and slowly, because he didn’t want to hurt his foot, he stepped behind her, after she’d closed the fridge. When she turned around she got startled and her back hit the fridge. Viktor used that opportunity to take another step closer, trap her between him and the fridge. This time he wouldn’t let her get away.
Her eyes widened when he put a hand to her side and leaned a little against her. When he took out the band from her hair, she tilted her head back a little to be able to still look him in the eyes. Instinctively she put both her hands on his chest, but didn’t push him away.
“What are you doing?” she breathed, her gaze dropping to his lips, making him smirk.
“What I should have done a week ago.”
Viktor ran his thumb over her cheek before he sealed her lips with his. A soft sigh escaped her when she opened her lips to him, welcoming him with her tongue. He deepened the kiss and ran his hand down her arm, grasping one of her hands just to pin it against the fridge.
When he felt Jane’s hands move down his body, he put his other hand on her hip, pushing his thumb beneath her shirt to touch the bare skin on her side. Suddenly she ripped pushed him a little away from herself, ripped her lips from his and ducked beneath his arm to get away from him.
“No no no no no no no!” She shook her head. “We can’t do this. I’m working for you, with you. This is not professional.”
“Do you really want to talk to me about what’s professional and what’s not? Viktor took a deep breath. He turned around to face her and ran a hand through his hair. This was ridiculous. “And you can’t tell me that you didn’t enjoy it.”
No, she couldn’t do that. And she knew that he’d enjoyed it as well, she’d even felt it. Her gaze dropped to his crotch and she sighed. She raised her head and looked him in the eyes. He’d seen where she’d looked but he stood as confident as before. There was nothing embarrassing about getting aroused because of a woman. It was actually a compliment for her, but she couldn’t deal with this right now.
“That’s not the point. This is my job, you are my job and I want you to recover.”
“And what?” He stared at her, waiting for an answer.
“We have to concentrate on your recovery.”
“That’s it? That’s your answer?” He crossed his arms over his chest. “In that case, don’t think that I’ll give up this easily.” No, he definitely wouldn’t. Kissing her had felt far too good to leave it at that and he knew that she’d enjoyed it as well.
