Blades of Love

Chapter One.

Stacey Summers pulled her brown hair back into a ponytail and threw her hockey jersey into her gym bag. Stacey grabbed her cell phone to check the time. 3:45pm. Stacey sighed and slipped on her coat before throwing her bag over her shoulders and heading to her car. Stacey was a Senior at Boston University and was captain of the women’s hockey team there. The season was just about to qbegin and coach had them practicing nearly every day.
Stacey had moved to Boston from New York her Freshman year when she committed to Boston for her college season. Stacey had played hockey almost her whole life. She grew up watching the Rangers and fell in love with the game. She had always loved sports being the only girl in a family of six boys. Her mother left home when Stacey was still a baby. Her father and grandmother pretty much raised her and her brothers.
Stacey got good grades all-throughout high school and was even leading scorer on her local hockey team, which earned her a full-scholarship to Boston U when she committed. At first, it was hard for her to just pick up and move away from her family, team and friends, but she quickly adjusted to Boston life and was even roommates with her goalie, Sammie Kent.
“Stacey! Hold up!” Stacey stopped and spun around, met by Trischa Downing, the teams’ Alternate Captain and all-star Defenseman.
“Yeah?” Stacey asked, confused
“Do you want to go watch the Bruins practice with us today? They are having an open practice.” Trischa asked with a smile
Stacey laughed, “Trisch…I have been here for three years and you guys still cannot remember that I’m a Rangers fan.”
“Oh, come on. It’s not like we’re the Flyers or something. It’ll be fun.” Trischa smiled.
Stacey smiled, “Alright, since I know you won’t give it a rest.”
“Yes!” Trischa exclaimed, pumping her fist. “See you tonight! 6pm!” Trischa pointed to her watch and with one last smile, headed off to her car.
Stacey laughed, got in her own car and headed to the small apartment she and Sammie had shared since Sophomore year, when Sammie transferred from a college in Edmonton. “Sam?” she called placing her bag on the floor.
“Yes?” Sammie asked, coming from the bathroom, a hair-straightener still stuck to her head. Sammie, despite being what some would call a “girly-girl” was leading goal tender in NCAA women’s’ hockey with a save percentage of 98.7.
“Are you going to the practice tonight?” Stacey asked grabbing a juice box from the fridge.
“What practice?” Sammie asked spraying more hair-spray onto her hair
“The Bruins one. I guess they are having an open-practice tonight. Trisch invited me.” Stacey explained
Sammie laughed “Oh yeah that makes sense. No. I have a date tonight. With Keith…you know that cute brunette from Money Management?”
Stacey nodded “Awesome. I’m going.”
“But you don’t like the Bruins.” Sammie said applying the last bit of mascara onto her eye-lashes and slipping on a pair of red-heals.
“I know. But you know Trischa…she will not stop asking me until I go. So I figured that I may as well do it now before they convince me to go to a game.” Stacey explained with a laugh.
Sammie nodded “They ask me to go all the time, but you know…being a Habs fan and all.” Stacey laughed. The Montreal Canadiens and the Boston Bruins had one of the biggest rivalries in the NHL. Sammie, even though she was from Edmonton, had been a fan of the Canadiens since birth. At least according to Sammie she had been. Her father was born in Montreal and raised all his kids to be Habs fans. Sammie would also cheer on the Oilers, but her heart was with Montreal.
“You’d think they would stop asking after a while.” Stacey said throwing away the empty juice container.
Sammie shrugged and grabbed her car keys. “I gotta go. Meeting him at Red Lobster.” Sammie smiled before continuing, “Don’t have too much fun. Also, don’t run off with a NHLer. We need ya.”
Stacey rolled her eyes and laughed, waving to Sammie has she headed out the door. Stacey looked at her watch 5:00pm, she decided she had better get ready. She hoped in the shower, to freshen up. After showering, she put her long hair in two braids and threw on a pair of black yoga pants and an oversized Boston U hoodie. She threw on her TOMS, put on some light make-up and headed out the door and drove to the arena, parking by Trischa’s car.
Trischa was already there with three of the other teammates. Second line winger Lindzey Winters, back-up goalie Kassidy Humphries, and Trischa’s defensive pairing, Jade Miller. “We didn’t think you were actually coming.” Trischa remarked.
Stacey smiled “Yeah, sorry I’m running late. Sammie was getting ready for a date.”
“With Keith?” Jade laughed. Jade was also in the Money Management class with Stacey, Sammie and Keith. “I saw him ask her after class.”
Stacey nodded “Yes. With Keith.”
“That’s so sweet. He’s gorgeous.” Jade said with a smile before giving Trischa a nudge “So, let’s head in.”
“Yeah, we have Benny holding us some seats.” Kassidy explained. Benny was the equipment manager of the team as well as Kassidy’s twin brother. The twins were born and raised in Boston and their father was a big contributor to the school.
The other girls agreed and they headed inside, finding Benny in an are by the glass. “Damn, Stace…what took you so long to decide to come to a practice?” he asked
Stacey smiled “Trischa threatened to break my wrists.” she joked
Benny laughed “Very funny. You know you wanted to come to see me.” he smirked and Kassidy smacked his arm. “Ow!” he exclaimed rubbing his arm.
Stacey rolled her eyes and turned her attention to the ice. Since she didn’t really follow the Bruins much, she only knew a few players’ names. Zdeno Chara, of course. The captain of the Bruins and tallest NHL player. Tukka Rask, the goalie, Patrice Bergeron and Tyler Seguin. They were doing a power play drill. Tyler skated by where they were and flashed the girls a quick smile before retrieving the puck and heading back down the ice.
“Seguin is such a douche.” Benny remarked, sipping his Mt. Dew.
Kassidy rolled her eyes “You think everyone is a douche.” she said, folding her arms.
“That’s because everyone is and I know people who have met him and they say he is douchey.” Benny argued
“You know who?” Kassidy asked
Jade shook her head “You two argue more than Coach Boedka and Coach Lynne on who to send out for shootouts.”
Benny turned back to Kassidy and sat his drink in his lap. “Know whom.” he corrected and before Kassidy could respond, he continued “Justin.”
Kassidy narrowed her eyes “Justin. Justin Reed. That dumb ass from Pysche?”
Benny nodded “Yes. Justin’s sister Molly went out with him last Summer and when she wouldn’t fuck him, he dumped her.”
“Molly is a slut. I highly doubt she didn’t fuck him.” Jade remarked finishing off her nachos.
“That’s what Justin told me.” Benny defended
“What probably happened is she tried to fuck him on the first date and he dumped her because he’s respectful and nice.” Kassidy suggested
Jade, Benny and Lindzey busted up laughing “Seriously, Kas?” Lindzey, who had been on her phone until Tyler’s name was brought up, asked.
“Well…he could be. I don’t know. Stace…” she said looking to Stacey for back-up.
Stacey looked at the others “Yeah guys. We don’t know him personally, so we shouldn’t judge. Also, Benny, I do know that Molly is in fact somewhat of a slut. Last week I saw her all over Jake Cox and yesterday she was practically fucking Nick Jacobs in the library. Also, there are things written about her in the guys locker room…and girls locker room.”
“So…what happened to not judging.” Benny snapped
“Do you like Molly or something, Benny?” Kassidy asked
The others turned to Benny as he blinked “I um…no.” he stammered
“Oh my fucking god. You do. Benjamin, use protection if you do anything with her…no scratch that…don’t do anything with her.” Kassidy said, again folding her arms.
“Hey, she is nice and I highly doubt she has fucked a whole bunch of guys. She is just…touchy-feely and isn’t ready to settle.” Benny defended
“Then why even try to pursue her if she isn’t ready to settle…you’ll just get hurt.” Lindzey replied.
“Maybe she’d settle with me.” Benny argued.
Lindzey shook her head “Benny…”
“Yeah, Benny, that doesn’t sound like a good plan.” Trischa agreed
“I’m gonna head to the bathroom.” Stacey said standing up.
“I’ll show you to it.” Jade offered
“No , no. I’m sure I can find a bathroom on my own.” Stacey smiled and headed to where she thought the bathrooms were located. The Bruins arena was pretty big. Stacey had only been in the Rangers arena once, but it was when she was really young and she didn’t really remember it. She wandered down the halls looking at the posters of Bruins players past and present. Bobby Orr, Mark Recchi, Marc Savard and many more.
“Can I help you?” a voice asked from behind her.
Startled, Stacey turned around and was met nose to nose with Tyler Seguin. “I…um…I…I’m looking for the bathroom.”
Tyler smiled “Oh. It’s this way. I’ll show you.” he said walking off
Stacey caught up with him “Is practice already over?” she asked
Tyler smiled “No, no. I am leaving early. I have a dentist appointment.”
Stacey smiled back “Oh. I’m sorry if I wasn’t supposed to be over there…I have never been in this arena.”
He looked at her perplexed “Did you just move here? Or are you not much of a hockey fan?”
Stacey laughed “I’m much more than a fan. I play.” she gave him a smile before continuing “I’m from New York though…I’m a Rangers fan, but I have lived here for a few years.”
Tyler nodded “Well here we are.” he said pointing to the bathrooms “Nice meeting you…I’m sorry I didn’t catch your name.”
“Stacey. Thank-you. Good luck at the dentist.” she said with a smile, shaking his hand.
He nodded “Oh and the stands are back that way.” with one last smile, Tyler headed out the door.

I just have to point out that I started reading this story and read the character Stacey's name a million times in the first few paragraphs. I don't know if you noticed it but it was a little annoying. But good story.
More is on the way:) I am writing multiple chapters at a time and uploading them when I get a chance. I do not have easy internet access, sadly, so I try to upload a few chapters at a time. I am working on chapter twelve right now:)
