Can't Be Changed

Model Behavior

“You promise?” Patrick’s raspy, groggy, and half drunk voice asked through the phone. Rolling her eyes Alisa pulled another dress out of her hotel closet and lay it across her large bed.

“Yes Patrick, I promise. Three more days and I’m coming home.” She said maneuvering the phone to her other hand taking off her bra and slipping on the strapless dress that had one built in.

“Where are you goin’ now?” He sleepily slurred as she slipped on a cropped leather jacket.

“I’m meeting up with the head hanchos of the company and they are having a little photoshoot to put in Vanity Fair Italia of the new business deal.” Alisa explained pulling her sunglasses off the bathroom counter and dropping them into her large Prada bag.

“Are you going to be in the shoot?” Patrick asked, suddenly perking up.

“I don’t know, maybe they’ll ask me to be, I honestly have no idea what is going on with this shoot. They just told me to show up.” Alisa honestly answered while slipping into her heels.

“Are there going to be male models there…?” Patrick quietly asked. Alisa paused, a smile creeping onto her face.

“Patrick Kane, are you feeling a little jealous?” Alisa asked giggling to herself as she checked herself in the mirror before stepping out of her room and down to the town car sent for her.

“Just make sure you don’t kiss nobody, kay baby?” He groaned loudly into the phone in a drunken stupor. “’Cause I didn’t kiss nobody…ever. I don’t fuck around ya’ know. I am true to you Liss. My dick stays in my pants and-”

“Patty, honey, go get some sleep and have a big cup of coffee when you wake up, okay?” Alisa insisted climbing into the town car, “I’ll call you later.” She ended the call with her intoxicated boyfriend and shook her head as she glanced at his smiling face on her phone wallpaper.

“Ahhh-lee-sah!” An overenthusiastic man greeted Alisa with open arms as she entered the studio that morning.

“Hello Mr.Bazzarri, how are you?” Alisa smiled at his mispronunciation of her name and gave him a hug.

“Wonderful, wonderful, come let’s get ready for photo, no?” He pulled her to where the hair and make-up station was plopping her down into a chair.

“So, im going to be in the photo?” Alisa curiosly asked.

“Si!” Mr.Bazzarri exclaimed, “All new partners are going to be in photo, new company, new fashion spread, new everything!” He excitedly remarked before leaving the room.

Alisa shrugged and relaxed as the makeup artist began to apply a light coat of makeup to her features. Moments later, Mr. Bazzarri floated back into the room with a handsome man by his side.

“Ahleesah!“ He exclaimed for the second time that day, “This is Francesco Carrozzini, the fabulous photographer that will be doing the Bottega Veneta shoot.”

“Pleasure to meet you.” Alisa smiled accepting his handshake that seemed to linger.

“You did not tell me you’re business marketer was so beautiful.” Francesco purred looking at Alisa yet speaking to Mr. Bazzarri.
“She has an amore, Francesco. Behave.” Mr. Bazzarri laughed dragging the photographer away.

“He’s a shameless flirt.” The makeup artist spoke up suddenly, her voice heavy with an Australian accent. “You’ve got yourself a man, eh?”

“Yeah, he’s back home.” Alisa sighed glancing at her phone sadly.

“What’s his name?” The Australian asked applying a light dusting of blush to Alisa’s cheeks.

“Patrick Kane, he’s a hockey player.” She proudly stated, smiling at her own words.

“You love him, I can tell.” The woman smiled placing the makeup back on the table littered with cosmetics. Alisa paused glancing at the woman as she took in her statement. There was no way she could possibly love Patrick. They had been together only a few months, and while she knew she had strong feelings towards her boyfriend, she knew it was not yet love. “Alright love, you’re good to go.”

Alisa stood, thanking the woman and proceeding to wardrobe where she was put in a sleek black mini with sky high Yves Saint Laurent grey heels and a large silver cuff. Finally on the set, there was about six people that were going to be in the photo: New business partners, new owners of the company, and new marketing team, which Alisa was part of. After they were all in position Francesco began giving orders behind his large camera.

“Okay everybody, look serious! This is serious business. Now, give me a smile! Smile Eric!” He shouted as the group tried to move to his orders. “Alisa, step forward, right in front.” Alisa sheepishly stepped in front receiving curious glances from everyone concerning the sudden favoritism shown. After a few more snaps of the camera, Francesco revealed, “We’ve got it.” The group scattered and went to go change while the actual models came on set to take some more shots for the Bottega Veneta spread. Mr.Bazzarri posed with a tall, thin pale faced model as she wrapped around him like a vine, a large happy smile on his face. Alisa stood off to the distance watching the scene before her, mesmerized with the awkward yet astounding poses of the model. Francesco caught her looking and sent her a flirtatious wink. Alisa’s insides suddenly fluttered in surprise at the attention from the handsome man. She looked away and waited off to the side for Mr.Bazzarri to finish with the few shots left.

“My dear!” Mr. Bazzarri happily shouted as he approached Alisa. “Wasn’t that fun? I know that the spread in the magazine will be wonderful! It’s great publicity for Bottega Veneta you know.”
Alisa nodded as Francesco appeared at her side.

“You were fabulous today.” He smiled, his blue eyes sparkling. “So beautiful.” He added his eyes greedily roaming her body.

“It was lovely to be here, but I must get going. I have a lot of work to do.” Alisa explained, “Here is the final contract copy you asked me to give you. Have your people call my office back in Chicago when it’s all set.” Alisa smiled and bid the two men goodbye. As she left Alisa couldn’t help but feel that she had just experienced one of the strangest mornings of her life.

“You didn’t kiss him right?” Patrick asked later that evening as Alisa typed away on her laptop.

“Why would I kiss anyone Patrick? Have you kissed anyone I should know about?” Alisa asked in frustration.

“No, I’m just paranoid because you’re just so far away, and I miss you.” Patrick admitted with a heavy sigh. “I’m afraid you’re going to meet some Italian or whatever and not come back to me.”

“So you don’t trust me?” Alisa asked sitting back in her chair holding her iPhone close to her ear.

“I don’t trust the Italians babe.” Patrick reasoned trying not to start a fight.

“So you’re now prejudice about Italians?” Alisa asked making Patrick roll his eyes.

“I don’t trust guys around you. You’re beautiful and I know that other guys know that and they are going to try to charm you. And what if, one of them succeeds? I don’t want to lose you.”

“Patrick, there is a reason I’m still with you. I’m not too sure what that reason is, but I’m with you. If I didn’t want to be with you I would have left a long time ago. So pull up your big boy pants and stop bitching because its seriously starting to piss me off.” Alisa fumed realizing this was the first major argument they were having as a couple.

“Baby, I just don’t want to lose you.” Patrick sighed and Alisa could sense a slight bit of alcohol in his speech.

“You’re not going to lose me.” Alisa snapped, “So put the damn bottle down and call me when you’re fucking sober.” Alisa ended the call and threw her phone at her bed. She growled in frustration and stomped back to the bed to get her phone and call Harvey. She decided that if her boyfriend was being an idiot for the night, she would spend the evening working.

“Hello?” Harvey answered a bit groggy because of the time difference.

“Harvey, could you please send me the files for the banquet? I want to go over the guest list and call Cynthia about the seating arrangements. And I need a copy of all the company sponsors by tonight.” Harvey quickly got to work sending Alisa all the files she needed before bidding her goodnight.

Alisa spent the rest of the evening modifying things for her banquet when a perfect idea struck her. She would put Patrick in his place, and get an apology from him. All she needed was a little time.

She read the message from Patrick before sighing sadly.

Get sober, talk to you tomorrow

She typed back before shutting her phone off and getting to work. Patrick Kane would definitely be sorry.
