Can't Be Changed

Red

“I’ll pick you up at two, so please be ready.” Patrick sighed into his phone, wiping his forehead with the back of his hand. A few beads of water from his shower precariously cascaded down his temples, staining his white v-neck. He hurried out of the gym to his car, digging for his keys in his baggy short pockets.

“I’ll be ready, don’t get your panties in a twist.” Alisa chuckled. “You whine too much.”

“Sometimes you’re such a pain in the ass.” Patrick remarked starting the car engine, zooming off to his apartment.

“You shouldn’t be talking, incase you forgot you recently threw up on my carpet in your drunken stupor and I had to nurse your hangover. I’m fucking fabulous, you ass.” Alisa grumbled and Patrick could hear her typing away on her laptop.

“Incase you forgot, you abandoned me for work. Again.” Patrick retorted and both of them suddenly fell silent. They were dangerously close to dancing on a line that was not to be crossed. Alisa was not to scold Patrick’s partying and he was not to get upset with her work regime. It was all part of the deal, and nothing was to be changed.

“What color are you wearing tomorrow?” Patrick asked deciding to quickly change the subject. He tapped his fingers on the steering wheel waiting for the light to change from red to green.

“Red.” Alisa replied distractedly, her fax machine beeping in the distance.

“Should we be cheesy and match?”

“Absolutely not, it‘s a wedding, not prom!” Alisa laughed, stopping her ministrations. “Wear a white shirt, with that silver tie I got you last month.”

“Will do. Remember two o’clock, I’ll be there tomorrow.” Patrick reminded pulling into his parking space.

“I know Patty, I’ll be ready. Goodnight.”

“I told her twice. Twice. She’s such a pain in the ass.” Patrick mumbled to himself sitting on Alisa’s couch, waiting for her to finish her hair.

“Call me a pain in the ass one more time and I’ll have to kick yours.” Alisa remarked standing in the doorway.

When Patrick looked up, something changed. An internal emotion in him snapped and the floodgates of the suppressed broke loose within the confines of his heart.

“…my god.” Patrick breathed out. He knew she was beautiful, but her appearance went beyond words. The form fitting dress hugged every curve of her svelte figure. And it was red.

“You got a little drool there baby.” Alisa giggled locating her clutch on her couch, and slipping her phone inside. “Come on, I’m ready.”

“Uhm…” Patrick blinked a few times to break the trance he was in, trying hard to think of anything other than the seductive woman that had taken the place of his girlfriend. “Keys, where are my keys…”

“Hurry up Patty, my jet leaves in twenty minuets!” Alisa exclaimed taking Patrick by the hand and dragging him out of the apartment.

“Oh, man. Oh man, oh man.” Alisa sighed nervously wringing her hands. “I really wish Angel was here.”

“You’ll be fine, Lis. It’s just a wedding.” Patrick smiled taking her hands in his as they stepped into the large church.

“Yeah and I know like three and a half people here.” She whispered as they maneuvered their way to their seats. “Wow, I don’t even remember the last time I was in a church.”

“You’re telling me.” Patrick added making the both of them laugh.

After the ceremony was over, the wedding moved on to party the night away in a beautifully decorated reception hall.

“Sharpy!” Patrick exclaimed seeing his fellow teammate and his wife sitting at their table. “You look like shit.”

“You’re a tool.” Sharp remarked hugging his friend.

“Oh my god is that Jeff Skinner? He’s fricken cute!” Alisa squealed.

“Skinner? He’s like 11.” Patrick snorted placing a possessive arm around Alisa’s waist.

“I’m going to go say ‘hi’.” Alisa smiled putting her clutch on the table.

“Like hell you are.” Patrick said pulling her back to him by the arm.

“Why not?” Alisa giggled placing her hands on Patrick’s puffed out chest.

“Uh…dance with me?”

“You dance?” Alisa asked in shock, a sly smile sliding its way onto her face.

“Yeah sure, just stay away from dimples over there.” Patrick nodded over to where Jeff Skinner was entertaining a group of girls. Alisa threw her head back and let out an airy laugh.

“You’re jealous.” She whispered as he pulled her close onto the dance floor, their bodies curving into each other. Her chin rested on his shoulder, and she closed her eyes and his cologne permeated her senses. Patrick had to steady his thoughts as his hand found the small of Alisa’s back, her dress practically paper thin.

“You’re beautiful,” Patrick mumbled into her hair, closing his eyes for a moment.

“You’re beautiful too.” Alisa chuckled kissing his neck.

The music suddenly shifted from the mellow tune, to an upbeat tempo, and a crowd of people filled the dance floor. Alisa smiled pulling slightly away from Patrick and turning in his arms. Her hips found his pelvis and began to move to the rhythm of the song.

“…Jesus Christ…” Patrick whispered to himself trying to steady his girlfriend’s hips with his hands with no avail. Her arms came up above her head to wrap around his neck and Patrick was sure he was going to lose it.

The rest of the night was torturous. Patrick was a savage man, and Alisa was tempting. With the slightest touch, she would send his pulse racing.

“Hey man, you’re kind of on edge tonight.” Patrick Sharp remarked taking a seat next to Pat at the bar where he was taking a breather.

“Just stuff of my mind.” Patrick laughed, looking over to his table where Alisa was chatting up Sharpie’s wife while enjoying her meal.

“Yeah I’d have stuff on my mind too if my woman was wearing that dress.” Sharp laughed, nudging Patrick in the arm.

“Shut the hell up.” Patrick rolled his eyes before grabbing his beer and going back to his girlfriend. “You ready to head home?”

Alisa nodded with a yawn, before saying her goodbyes to the few people she knew as well as the bride and groom. With aching feet, Alisa’s climbed into the town car she and Patrick had ordered to take back to her LA apartment. Cuddling into Patrick’s shoulder for the short ride, she couldn’t help but feel him tense up.
As they stood silently in the elevator waiting for it to ascend to Alisa’s floor, Patrick could feel that something was different. Something was going to happen. Alisa laced her fingers with Patrick’s pulling him from the elevator and into her apartment. She didn’t drop his hand as they walked in, instead she continued to guide him through the home, to her bedroom. As they reached the door she turned lacing her arms around his neck, pulling his lips to hers. His hands found her zipper, and he slowly tugged it down. Their bare bodies fell onto the bed, and the red dress fell to the floor.
