The Intern

Chapter Two

It’s a Thursday, which means it’s time for my favorite classes, Photography and Digital Journalism. At the end of class, Mr. Marks, the photography teacher pulls me aside.
“Cassie, I thought I should let you know. I saw the pictures you took at the game last night. They’re great. One of my friends works in the Bruins organization and told me they just had a spot open up in their internship program for a photography student. He asked if I knew anyone and I immeadiately recommended you. You have a great eye and a terrific work ethic. You should expect a call sometime today,” he says.
“Are you serious,” I say in disbelief.
“Totally. You’d be a great addition. I really think you’ll make it. Good luck.”
I walk out of class and head to the library, having to study for a test in my next class. About fifteen minutes later, my phone buzzes. I answer it and walks out of the library, so as not to disturb the other students.
“Hello?”
“Yes. Is this Cassandra Matthews?”
“Yes. This is she.”
“My name’s Ron. I’m the head of the internship program for the Boston Bruins. We had a spot open up and my friend Dan tells me you’re one of his best students and recommended you. Would you be interested in coming down for an interview?”
“Absolutely. When would it be?”
“How’s Saturday at 10? We have a night game and if you’re what we’re looking for, I would like you to start right away.”
“Great. I’ll be there.”
“Okay. See you on Saturday. Have a nice day.”
“You too,” I say, hanging up the call. Too excited to study anymore, I head to the common area to relax a bit before class starts.
Back at the apartment
Entering the apartment, I still have a smile on my face. I've been smiling ever since the call.
“Why are you so smiley?” Kyra asks, sitting at the kitchen table, pouring over her management book. She has a test tomorrow that she really needs to study for.
“You’ll never guess.”
“The hottest guy in school just asked you out?” she guesses, glancing up from her book.
“Nice try, but no. Guess again.”
“You just won the lottery?”
“Nope. One more.”
“I have no idea. Just tell me already!”
“The internship program for the Bruins scheduled me for an interview! They want me to be an intern in the photography department!”
“NO WAY!! That’s like your dream job. When’s the interview?”
“On Saturday. And if they like me, I’d start that day.”
“Do you have any good interview clothes?”
“I don’t think so.”
“Girl, we need to go shopping ASAP,” Kyra says, abandoning her text book and grabbing her purse. “C’mon chickie, I’m taking you to find a kick ass outfit.” Grabbing my arm, we both head out to the mall.
Three hours later and we have finally found the best outfit. It’s a light blue top with a black lace back, black knee-length skirt, and black heels. I also got a few new pairs of jeans, some tops, and a blue and black swirl dress. Kyra found more stuff than me, so it was more of a shopping trip for her than for me.
