James’ POV:
Being with Allison was just so amazing…everything about her was perfect. The sex was phenomenal. Her cooking was amazing…she was truly perfect.
Our time in playoffs was over. We were eliminated in the Conference Finals by Boston. I had tied with Sid for the Maurice Richard and was a nominee for the Ted Lindsay, but I was beat out by Tomas Vanek.
I was just about to call Allison when my phone rang. It was Emilee, Jen’s sister. “Hello?”
“Jay,” she started. Emilee was the only one who ever called me ‘Jay’ “Can you get to the hospital?”
“Is it time?” I asked
“Yes! Hurry up.” she replied, hanging up.
I sent Allison a quick text and told her that Jen was having the baby. I grabbed my keys and headed to my car, driving to the hospital. In a few hours, I was going to be a dad.
Allison’s POV:
James had sent me a text to let me know he’d be heading to the hospital. Jen was having her baby. I sent him a quick reply and went into Mel’s room. “Mel, wanna go shopping? Call Sid and have him treat us to a spree.” I laughed
“Okay.” Mel replied, smiling. She called Sid and within minutes, he was at the door, taking us shopping.
Sid loved taking us shopping. He didn’t like going by himself because of the crowds he’d get, but when he was with us, people tended to leave him alone. We headed to the mall and straight to American Eagle. “Sid, we are going to help you pick some clothes out.” I giggled
“What? I don’t need clothes…”Sid protested
“Yes you do. At least some new shirts.”
“Okay…but I only wear grays, blues, whites and blacks.” he replied
“We know.” Mel replied holding up a blue and white striped polo “This would be sexy on you.”
Sid smiled and held onto the shirt. We spend a few hours there trying on clothes and picking things out for Sid. We bought some things and headed off to the next store. “Do you think I should get something for the baby?” I asked
“You can if you want, but I don’t think you should feel like you have to.” Mel told me.
“Us guys got a crib for his place and a shit ton of clothes.” Sid replied
“I know. The crib is way nice.” I replied
“Duper picked it out. He is an expert on baby things.” Sid laughed
That was true Pascal Dupuis had like four or five kids. “I don’t know…I just feel like I should get something.”
“Get him like toys or clothes.” Sid replied, “I mean you can just get something for the baby to have at James’.”
“Yeah…I don’t even know if they have a schedule set up or what they’re going to do.”
“He’ll probably tell you later.” Sid said with a smiled
I nodded and smiled back as we continued to shop.
James’ POV:
Jen clenched onto my hand tighter, “Just breathe.” I told her.
“Don’t tell me what to do!” she yelled
“Okay…I’m sorry.” I looked at her sister for help and she just shrugged. “Jenny, I’m going to..”
“NO! You’re not going anywhere! Stay here Jamesy…” Jen cried
“Okay okay. I’m here.”
“You’re doing good Jen. The baby is starting to crown, give me one good push.” the doctor said
Jen grabbed onto my hand and pushed, soon enough my son started crying and the nurses were cleaning him off. After getting him all clean they brought him over and laid him in Jen’s arms, “Congratulations, it’s a boy!” the nurse said
Jen smiled, “He’s so beautiful!” I looked down at him and smiled. My son looked up at me and stopped crying, “He likes you Jamesy. Say hi.”
“Hi.” I said giving him a wave.
Jen smiled at me, “Nolan.”
“Hmm?” I said , looking at her.
“His name. Nolan James Neal.”
I smiled, remembering that we had already decided on the name a few weeks ago. “Hi, Nolan. I’m your father.” He smiled back at me and I felt my heart race.
In one split second, my life was officially changed forever.
