Chapter 21-
James’ POV:
I couldn’t breathe…I dropped my phone and drove as fast as I could to the hospital, finding Sid and Melanie in the ER. “What happened?” I asked running up to them.
“James you should sit down.” Sid started
“Don’t tell me to sit down! What the fuck happened?!” I yelled
“She was heading back to the apartment from the airport and was hit. The other driver ran the red light.” Melanie informed me
My heart sank and I fought off tears, “Is she OK?”
“James…” Mel started
“Is she OK?!” I repeated louder
“Yes, but…” Melanie started
“But what, Melanie?” I could feel my hands trembling
“She’s unconscious…”
I fell down into a seat, “Is she going to be alright?”
Melanie nodded, “The doctors believe so…”
I laid my head in my hands and started sobbing, “It’s all my fault…”
“James…” Melanie looked at me
“It is! If I had just called her brothers a cab…or or drove them myself…or if I had went with her…I could have done something. I could have protected her.” I could feel the tears flowing out of my eyes.
Melanie sat beside me and hugged me, “James…this wasn’t your fault, OK?”
“Did they get him…” I asked
Melanie nodded, “The driver that hit her. Yeah the police took him into custody.”
“Will they let us see her?”
“Not yet…she’s pretty banged up. Needs a few stitches and her arm is broken…”
I winced. I didn’t want to think about her being in pain…I just wanted her safe and OK…
It felt like hours and hours before a doctor came to us with an update, “She should be waking up any minute now.” the doctor told us. “You can go in with her.”
“OK, let’s go!” I said standing up and heading to her room. Allison was laying in her hospital bed. Her face was slightly scarred and her arm was in a cast. I winced and sat down beside her. “Baby…I’m so sorry…”
“James…” Melanie said from behind me
I looked over at her and I could feel my eyes starting to water, “Yeah?”
“Are you OK?” she asked
I nodded, “Yeah…I’ll be OK.”
She smiled at me and sat down, “Sid went to go get a bottle of water.”
I nodded, “OK…”
I felt Allison’s hand clutch onto mine, “James…”
I turned and Allison’s eyes were opening, “Allison! You’re awake!”
She nodded, “What happened?”
“You were in an accident.” I replied
Allison looked at her arm, “Is it broken?”
I nodded, “Yeah.”
“Fuck…” she grumbled
I smiled and kissed the top of her head, “I’ll go let the nurse know you’re awake.” I headed out and grabbed a nurse and she followed me to the room.
“Ah! Good. You’re awake. How are you feeling?”
“Okay…my arm hurts.” Allison replied
“I’ll have the doctor up your morphine dose. Anything else Miss Dawning?”
Allison shook her head, “No…”
“Okay. The doctor will come in in a few minutes to check you out and tell you some things.” the nurse replied with a smile before leaving.
“Do you need anything, baby?” I asked
Allison shook her head, “James, go get yourself something to drink…”
“But I don’t need anything…” I started
“James…please.” she asked
I nodded, “Okay…” I replied heading to the vending machines where Sidney was still standing. “You okay?”
Sid shook his head, “Not really…no.”
“What’s wrong?” I asked
“I have to break up with Melanie…”
Allison’s POV:
“Melanie…” I started.
“Yeah?” Mel replied
“Do you believe that everything happens for a reason?”
“What do you mean?” Melanie asked
I looked down and sighed. I had to tell someone…I knew Melanie would tell me to tell James, but I had to get my secret off my chest. “This accident…do you think that it happened to me for a reason…”
“Yeah…some drunk hit you.” Melanie replied
“I know…but do you think that it happened because of something I was about to do…”
Melanie looked at me, “What do you mean?!”
I looked down and started to cry, “Melanie…I wasn’t on my way to see James…”
Melanie’s eyebrows went up, “What?!”
I sighed and looked down, “Mel…I was on my way to see Geno again…”
“You what?” James’ voice called from the door
I looked over at him standing in the doorway, “James…I…”
“You were going to see him?!” his voice cracked.
“Yes…”
James shook his head at me, “I can’t believe you…” he stammered before leaving.
“James! Wait!” I called, but he was gone…he hadn’t let me finish. Evgeni had called me to come over to have sex and I was going over there…but not to have sex. I was going over to Geno’s to tell him that he had to stop calling me…I was going over there to tell him that I was in love with James and I wasn’t going to cheat on him again…
