James’ POV:
I put a movie in and laid back onto the couch when my phone rang. “Hello?”
“James…” Jen sniffled from the other end
I sighed. “What do you want?”
“James…your girlfriend attacked me…we’re at the police station…”
“WHAT?!” I yelled.
“I had just went over to talk to her and she attacked me!” Jen explained
“Why didn’t Allison call me?”
“I don’t know…we’re only allowed one call and she probably called her friend…can you please come down?”
I sighed, “Yeah I’ll be down in a few minutes…” Why had Allison attacked Jen? Also…why would Allison call Melanie and not me? I hung up the phone and headed down to the police station. I got inside and an officer escorted me to a lobby area, where Jen was standing. She headed over to me and tried hugging me. I stopped her, “Where is Allison?”
“I think they are still questioning her…” Jen started
“What exactly happened, Jennifer?”
“I already told you, James! I just went over there to talk and she started yelling at me and she tackled me and hit me…and scratched me.” Jen replied, showing me the scratch marks on her arms and face. “One of her neighbors called the cops.”
“Did you provoke her?” I asked
“No! All I did was tell her that she’d regret it if she ever hurt you again…”
“Why would you do that?”
“Because I care about you!” Jen argued
I sighed and rubbed my head “Jenny…”
“I’m sorry…” she started
Just then an officer came over, “You are free to go, Ms Fredreichs.”
“Excuse me sir, what is going on with Allison Dawning?” I asked
“We are still questioning her. We have two witnesses who are confirming Ms Fredreichs story that Ms Dawning attacked her.” the cop started “You may go to the waiting area in the next room to wait.”
I nodded and started heading to the room when Jen grabbed my arm, “James…”
“Just go home, Jen. I’ll call you later.” I replied
Jen nodded and headed out the door. I sighed and walked into the room finding Sid and Melanie already waiting. I sat down and before I could even speak, Melanie started yelling. “Your bitch of an ex came over to the apartment and threatened Allison! I don’t know why they are letting her go! Allison told her to leave and she refused!”
“Jen said that she was just talking to Allison about me and that Allison attacked her…”
“Yeah! After that bitch got in her face and was talking shit!”
“Two people confirmed what Jen said, Melanie…” I replied
“Well, Allison told me what happened. Jen came over and told Allison that you should be with her and not Allison. She kept going on and on about how she was meant for you!”
I blinked, “But Jen said…”
“BUT JEN? But Jen?! She came over to our house and attacked Allison and all you care about is her?!”
“That’s not fair, Melanie!” I argued
“No. What’s not fair is you taking that bitch’s side over your own girlfriend. Maybe Jen was right. Maybe you should be with her!”
I bit my lip to stop me from replying. “Whatever. Tell Allison I’ll call later.” I got up and headed home. I needed to clear my head…
Allison’s POV:
I had never been questioned by the cops as a ‘suspect’ before…the last time they questioned me was after the rape…but that was different. I had hit Jen first and I knew that I shouldn’t have…
Apparently from what I overheard, two people confirmed what Jen told them. I sighed…I felt so stupid for hitting her, but she just made me so mad! She didn’t even know me and was making remarks about my character…and what did she even mean by James is the only guy she’s ever been with…did she mean that he was the only guy she had sex with?
I didn’t understand any of it…I took a deep breathe as an officer came into the room, “Well Ms Dawning, lucky for you that Ms Fredreichs doesn’t want to press criminal charges against you since she has a child with your boyfriend and she doesn’t want this to affect him in any way from seeing his son…so you’re free to go, but with a warning. If an incident like this happens again, you will be prosecuted.
I nodded, “Thank-you.” I was relieved and surprised that Jen didn’t file charges…or at least ask for a restraining order. I grabbed my purse and the officer led me to a room.
“Allison!” Melanie exclaimed
Finally a familiar face, “I’m free to go. Jen didn’t want to press charges.”
“Wow…I can’t believe that.”
I nodded in agreement, “Me either…where’s James?”
Mel sighed, “He left. Said he’ll call later.”
I felt hurt…why would he leave? “Let’s go home…”
Mel nodded and we left.
