Her Eyes

Only Pittsburgh locals knew about the old drive in theatre off a very well used dirt road. Jordan had been there many times as a child and had always planned on bringing someone special there, but he had never gotten around to it. They pulled into a spot in front of a blank screen and quietly got out of the car. Jordan and Mason separated, him to get a speaker, her to get snacks. After piling up on popcorn and sour straws, Mason made her way back to the car, where Jordan was waiting with blankets and a speaker. Without speaking, they got into the back seat of the dark blue jeep, wrapped blankets around themselves and just as Jordan pulled the small girl into his arms, the movie started.

When the opening credits of Rocky Horror Picture Show started to play, Mason grinned into Jordan’s chest. It was one of her favorites – a cult classic.

Her and Jordan cuddled closer in the cramped seat. Her eyes on the movie, his on her face. It fascinated him the amount of emotion that could be portrayed through those beautiful peridot orbs. The way the edged of her eyes crinkled when she smiled or the way they subtly widened when she was surprised. It also fascinated him how just a short two months ago, her eyes had been dull, shineless, expressionless.

It also saddened him. The only girl he had ever developed profound feelings for wasn’t going to be around much longer.

So in the dark backseat of his car, with his arms around the girl he was falling in love with, he made a decision. A decision to speed up his list. To try and fit the rest of his numbers into a single week. A single day if he could.
