Blast From The Past

I love you but I got to let you go

When the graduation caps went flying over my head I smiled and look over at Andrew smiling. We had both finally finished high school and man did it feel great. I got up and made my way towards Andrew and he made his way toward me with his goofy grin on his face. He picked me up and spun me then kissed me.

“Well it’s final we don’t have to go back there anymore.” he said smiling.

“But at least I still get to see your face.So when do you know?”

I said with my head down looking at the cracks in the sidewalk as we walked out of the building. I felt Andrew stop and I turned to face him. His face was serious, which made me nervous since he never was serious unless he knew it was a big deal.

“The draft is in Minnesota on June 24-25. I’ll know then, but I want you to go with me.”

“Of course I’ll go with you! I love you Andrew and nothing is going to get in the way of that alright?”

“I love you too babe.”

He took my face and kissed me passionately. Little did either of us know that when he got drafted things would go down hill for our relationship. I was going to college to be in sports med and he was going to play for the Chicago Blackhawks. Little did I know that the happiest day for Andrew would become the saddest as he was drafted I had to face reality and break up with him, things wouldn’t work out with the distance or the time differences.
As I walked away from Andrew and his new Chicago jersey tears streamed down my face since I did the most painful thing I ever had to do. I wasn’t just breaking up with my long term boyfriend, I was leaving my childhood best friend by himself with cameras flashing and taking pictures of him.

In the hotel room I left him a note saying:

Andrew. If you’re reading this I just broke up with you, but I want you to know that I do love you I’m doing this for us. I don’t want the troubles with long distance in the beggining of college. Andrew I’m so sorry but I hope that everything goes well for you in the Windy City. I know this is bad timing but I DO LOVE YOU.
~Love,
Chelsea “Dagger” Dalton
