Oh Captain, My Captain (Sidney Crosby)

Oh Captain, My Captain (Sidney Crosby) 084:

Chapter Eighty Four

-Alex-

“What do you mean none of them have their phones?!” I asked angrily because my dad had just told me that Sidney, James and Max had taken Zeus to the vet because my mom had kicked him hard, “Where’s Geno?”

“I don’t know,” my dad said and I growled.

“Put Mel on the phone,” I said and I heard the phone being passed.

“Alex?”

“Mel! Where’s Geno?” I asked and she sighed.

“That boy is sleeping, I couldn’t believe that he slept through that,” she said and I started to tap my foot because I was growing impatient.

“Where’s Sid’s phone?” I asked and heard my hotel door open and Pascal walked in looking at me worried.

“Your mom kind of smashed it,” Mel answered and I bit my lip to hold myself back from yelling.

“What about Max’s?”

“Charging,” she answered, “And James’ is charging too.”

“Son of a bitch!” I growled and threw my hand in the air, “Wake Geno’s ass up and tell him to go after them! And make sure he brings his damn phone!”

“Alex.”

“Please Mel, I’ll kill her if something happens to Zeus,” I hissed and Mel sighed.

“All right,” she said and I rubbed my face, “I’ll have him call you when he gets to the vet.”

“Thank you,” I said and then hung up and viciously threw my phone onto the bed and ran my fingers through my hair.

“Everything all right?” Pascal asked and I shook my head.

“My mom apparently came over and started to throw a tantrum in front of everyone and kicked my dog,” I said and Pascal shook his head.

“I thought you got along with your mom?”

“No, we hate each other,” I said and then sat on the bed and held my face, “Why does something happen every time I’m gone,” I muttered, because the last five times I’ve gone on a trip like this, Sam broke her arm, Max started a fire in my house trying to cook, Sid broke the shower and water went everywhere, Geno hit my mailbox while backing out of my driveway, and now Zeus is in the hospital.

“Maybe you should go home, it sounds like there’s chaos there,” he said and I sighed and shook my head.

“Coach would kill me,” I said and Pascal groaned.

“How ‘bout we won’t stay for everything? We go to ceremony and that’s it?” he asked and I looked at him.

“What is this thing for anyways?” I asked and he snorted.

“You would forget,” he laughed, “It’s for the charity that the Penguins’ donated to last month.”

“Oh, another charity event, yay,” I muttered and he chuckled.

“Why not call one of the guys up and see if they’ll replace you?” he asked and I snapped my head up and looked at him.

“You’re a genius!” I said and then turned around to grab my phone, “Why didn’t I think of that?!”

He laughed and then shrugged his shoulders, “Don’t know, I’ll talk to you later, we’re taking the kids out to see New York.”

“Have fun!” I said and he waved back at me and I looked through my contacts. I got to Kris’ name and hit call, then placed the phone to my ear.

“Alex! What’s up? How’s New York?”

“Ok, what are you doing tonight?”

“I’m going on a date tonight, why?”

“I need a favor,” I said quickly and then heard him sigh.

“I’m not trading,” he laughed, “You’re gunna have to suffer through that.”

“Please, there’s a situation at home,” I said and then explained to him what happened.

“I’ll cancel,” he said quickly and I smiled.

“I owe you one, Kris,” I said and then heard him chuckle over the phone.

“What is this event anyways?” he asked and I heard him moving around, probably packing.

“Some kind of charity ceremony,” I answered and then ran over towards my laptop and started to look at tickets to head home.

“Did you find tickets?”

“Not for any tonight,” I said and sighed, “My flight is at six in the morning tomorrow, I’ll be home by nine thirty.”

“What about for me?” he asked and I finished buying my ticket and looked for a flight for him.

“I see one here for ten in the morning and that’s about it,” I said and sighed, “That’s the earliest flight.”

“So I’ll see you before I leave,” he said as I heard him stop moving.

“Yeah, thanks Kris, I really do owe you one.”

“Just try not to land yourself in jail for killing your mother,” he chuckled and I smirked.

“I won’t get caught,” I said and then heard him laugh, “I’ll see you at the airport tomorrow.

“Yeah, see you then!” he said and I hung up and had to call Coach to let him know what was going on.

-Sidney-

I paced back and forth in the waiting room, it felt like the time that Alex was in the hospital after the Bruins game, except this wasn’t Alex, this was our dog. When we had showed up to the vet I grabbed Zeus and he started throw up blood and that was not good at all. James had gotten the door while Max locked up my car. The nurse rushed over towards us and automatically took him away, heading back into an ocean of unknown rooms. We didn’t know whether to follow her or wait here, so we waited, and waited, and waited.

“Sid!” I heard and then saw Geno walking over towards us, “What’s going on? Mel woke me up and told me that I needed to come here and make sure I brought my phone.”

I patted down my pockets and realized that I didn’t have my phone, and then remembered that Alex’s mom smashed it onto the ground when Mr. Conners showed up. I looked over towards James and Max to see that they were groaning.

“It’s charging,” Max said and James nodded his head.

“Dude, you slept through that whole thing?” James asked and Geno looked confused.

“Through what?” he asked and I explained to him what happened and he looked shocked and then pissed, “That bitch hurt Zeus!”

“Shhhhh!” I yelled and then looked around to see that people were looking at us, “Alex probably had you come here for your phone since we don’t have ours.”

“Oh,” he said and then held out his phone and I called Alex up.

“Geno! Are you at the clinic?” Alex ask while I put the phone to my ear.

“It’s me.”

“Sid? Is he all right?”

“We don’t know anything yet,” I said and then walked over towards the window across the room to have some sort of privacy.

“I’m coming home tomorrow morning,” she said and I sighed.

“You can’t do that, Coach will-“

“I talked to him already, he asked if Max started another fire,” she said and I chuckled a little, “Kris is gunna take my place.”

“What time does your flight come in?”

“Nine thirty,” she said and I ran my fingers through my hair, “Can you pick me up?”

“Of course,” I said and then looked to see that Geno, Max and James were talking about something.

“I’m really sorry that you had to deal with that, Sid,” Alex said and then sighed.

I repositioned my body and then placed the phone to my other ear, “It’ll be all right, Alex.”

I could hear her start to cry and my heart broke because I wasn’t able to be there to make her feel better, “I hate that woman so much.”

“I know,” I said and then looked to see the nurse walking over towards the guys, “Babe, I have to go, the nurse is coming.”

“Let me know what’s going on!”

“I will, I promise!” I said and then hung up and ran over towards the guys and nurse to see what was up with Zeus.
