Oh Captain, My Captain (Sidney Crosby)

Oh Captain, My Captain (Sidney Crosby) 090:

Chapter Ninety

At least I got one good Christmas, but at this point, I didn’t even want to think about it. I didn’t want to think about Sidney at all, it was bad enough that I had to work with him, but I didn’t want him anywhere near me after that. Marc had told me that he was hurting, but you know what, so was I. Vero told me that he had found a house and bought it, I didn’t care, she told me that he talked about you to Marc all the time, too bad, he had his chance. If he didn’t at like a douche, then our anniversary for being together for a year would have been in four days.

I listened to Sidney on the ice, as my Captain, not as my friend, I couldn’t do it, it just hurt too much. Everyone on the team knew that we weren’t together anymore, and I’ve had a few of the wives tell me that they were impressed at how well I was controlling myself around him. Don’t get me wrong, the urge to scratch his eyes out was still there, but I told Sidney the truth when I said that I was trying to control my anger.

It was Christmas break and just about everyone had gone home, James had taken Sam home for Christmas, and Mel was going to take Geno to her family back in Wilkes-Barre, and Max had gone to where ever he went. But I had to say I was a little sad, Max had told me before he left that he found a place in the city and was gunna move in when he came back. I had lost two boys now.

I had definitely felt pathetic right now, sitting on the couch, in my lonely home, with Sarabi on one side and Zeus on the other, not to mention the gallon of ice cream in my lap didn’t help at all. Each bite of ice cream that I took I kept reminding myself that this was the reason why I didn’t date or have anything to do with teammates.

I heard my cell phone going off and I reached to the coffee table to grab it and saw that it was Trevor Lewis calling me. I couldn’t help but smile at the name as it popped onto my screen, “Hey stranger!”

“Angel! So nice to hear your voice during this horrible season!” he said and I laughed remembering that Trevor hated this holiday just as much as I did.

“What’s up, sweetie?!” I asked as I put the gallon of ice cream onto the table and tucked my feet under me and leaned against Sarabi.

“I’m bored and everyone’s gone home,” he whined and I laughed.

“That’s Christmas!”

“I know! I was getting use to us spending Christmas together, and then you had to go and move to Pittsburgh!”

“Yeah, like I did it on purpose!” I teased and he laughed.

“Yeah whatever,” he said and I scratched Sarabi’s head, “How is the place?”

“Cold.”

“That’s it?”

“Depressing,” I said and then sighed.

“Not Pittsburgh! The place where the Golden boy shines so brightly-“

“Yeah, shut up!” I smirked and shook my head.

“Who stuck a hockey stick up your ass?” he asked and I gaped.

“What?”

“You’re moody, what did Crosby go home-“

“We broke up,” I breathed and there was a silence on the phone.

“Wait? What?” he asked and I sighed.

“Sidney and I aren’t together anymore.”

“Since when?!” he asked and I heard a bang on the end of his line.

“Did you fall out of your chair?”

“No,” he said and then sighed, “Yes.”

“Thought so,” I laughed.

“What happened?”

“You saw the Flyers game, right?”

“Where he diva’d out, yeah, the whole NHL community saw it,” he said and I sighed.

“It started before that,” I explained what happened with my mom and the blackout and just everything.

“What a douche,” he said and I sighed, “Where’s your dad?”

“Went to Texas for Christmas, he had planned this a while ago and I didn’t want him to cancel it,” I said and then heard Trevor sigh.

“Come to LA,” he said and I looked at my phone.

“What?”

“Come to LA for Christmas, Alex,” he said and I shook my head.

“I can’t, the dogs,” I said as I put the phone back to my ear.

“Then I’ll come to Pittsburgh!” he said and I sat up in my seat.

“You’ll come to Pittsburgh to see me?” I asked and heard him laugh.

“Yeah, I miss my Angel!” he said and I leaned back into my couch and smiled.

“All right,” I said and then scratched Sarabi’s stomach with a smile on my face, ‘…At least I’m feeling wanted again…’

-Sidney-

“What do you mean you’re broken up?!” my mother asked as I stood in the family kitchen in Halifax.

“We’re done, she broke up with me,” I said as I slouched down onto my chair.

“How long have you been broken up? Was it two weeks ago?” my dad asked and I looked at him and nodded my head.

“How’d you know?”

“Because that’s when you started to suck and she got better,” he said and I was taken back.

‘…Wait ta kick me when I’m down, dad…’ I thought as I rolled my eyes and my mom hit my dad’s shoulder.

“Don’t listen to him, Sidney,” my mom said and I looked at her.

“He’s right, though,” Taylor said from the counter and I glared at her, “Don’t look at me like that, from what it sounds like is that you’re the one who screwed the relationship up.”

“I didn’t-“

“So how is her game better?” Dad asked and I growled.

“I don’t know,” I sighed and threw my hands in the air.

“She’s probably taking all of her frustration out on the ice,” Taylor said and I shook my head and stood up, “Maybe when she was punching Ovechkin, she was picturing Sidney’s face.

“Enough!” Mom yelled and I looked back towards her to see that she was looking at me painfully, “You did do some bad things Sidney, but so did she-“

“What did Alex do?” Taylor and Dad asked.

“She didn’t listen to my baby boy when he wanted to talk to her!” mom said and I sighed.

“Dear, I think you forgot the part where our son didn’t listen to her first,” dad said and I watched as mom turned around fast and glared at him.

“I like Alex, Sidney, she was good for you,” mom said and I nodded my head, “Fix this!”

-Alex-

“I’m so happy that you’re here!” I squealed as I hugged my friend Trevor as he walked out of the security point.

“Wow, you weren’t kidding, it is cold here!” he said and I laughed and bounced up and down in front of him, “Holy cow, Alex, calm down,” he laughed and I smiled brightly, “Let’s go get my luggage.”

“All right,” I said and then wrapped an arm around his back and felt his arm around my shoulder and we walked down to the baggage claim to get Trevor’s bag.

“This it?” I asked as I took his rolling suitcase and he nodded his head, “All right, let’s go.”

We walked out of the airport and headed over towards my new red Chevy Tahoe and Trevor stopped in front of it.

“Did you get a new car?” he asked and I laughed and nodded my head.

“The Traverse died on me,” I said and he nodded his head.

“Why?”

“I don’t know, I forgot to ask it,” I laughed as Trevor threw his bags into the truck and I turned around to face him, to see that he was smiling, “I’ve missed you!” I said as I wrapped my arms around his waist and laid my head against his shoulder and then felt his arms around my neck.

“I missed you too, Angel.”
