Jared was the first to stand up. He extended his hand out waiting for Cayla to take a hold of it. They got up and moved far enough from the guys that the moment would be theirs but close enough so everyone could witness the dare being completed. The kissing started off with a few pecks. It was sweet, and then the kisses became more heated. Jared slid one hand down to Cayla’s hip and the other tangled itself into her long, fresh off the beach waves, caramel colored hair. Cayla closed the remaining space between them, making sure her hips were grinding against Jared’s. And before she knew it they were in the middle of a tonsil hockey game.

Since Jared had almost a foot on Cayla she tippy-toed and wrapped her arms around Jared’s neck pulling him down to a comfortable level. In return Jared dropped both hands bringing them down to Cayla’s bottom, taking a quick feel and picking her up causing her to wrap her legs around his waist. She didn’t understand what was running through her mind while the kiss continued. He couldn’t believe this was actually happening, and he would never admit it to his brothers but he didn’t want this to stop. As the kiss went on Cayla slowly retuned back to the ground sliding off of Jared’s hips, Jared kept teasing Cayla’s lower lip with his tongue. She teased back by pulling away. But he couldn’t handle the mid stop just yet. He pulled her back by surprise and she had no time to react.

They began to hear whistles and chants and cheers from everyone, which ruined the moment causing both Jared and Cayla to pull apart and blush. They walked back hand in hand, but ended up sitting away from each other. Cayla knew she had accomplished her goal making it a kiss for Jared to never forget. But Cayla couldn’t help but let the realization of Jared leaving kick in right at that moment, and as the night continued on Cayla couldn’t help but start to hang her head low. And to make matters even worse every time she looked at Jared sitting across from her she felt like every butterfly in Canada was in her stomach. Megan’s big sister instinct caught this and took note of it and made a promise to herself that she would talk to Cayla as soon as they were alone.

Cayla and Jared were only 3 months apart and were pretty close. Just not as close as her and Jordan were. Throughout high school both Cayla and Jared had their share of boyfriends and girlfriends. Cayla never thought twice when it came to Jared. That was until senior year and Jared brought home one of the cheerleaders. She was blonde, a fake blonde at that, about 5’10, legs for days and beautiful. But her personality wasn’t right for Jared. Cayla knew this from the start but would never say anything to him because she didn’t want him to be upset with her or to think that she was jealous, even if the truth was that the longer their relationship lasted the more jealous Cayla became.

During their 6 months of dating Jared fell hard for this girl,harder than Cayla had ever seen a Staal fall for a girl. He was even teased by his brothers being called whipped and all the other clever names they came up with for him. But the cheerleader named Sarah broke Jared’s heart after cheating on him. Jared had closed himself off from everyone, everyone except for Cayla. Once he let her in to how hurt he was by Sarah, once even crying to Cayla about her, Cayla realized that she never wanted to see Jared hurt again. She wanted to make him happy. She wanted to be the reason he smiled, besides hockey. She wanted to be with him and kiss him and wipe away any traces of sadness from him.
