The One Night That Changed My Life Forever

Surprise!

Eghhh. Mom I'm actually not feeling good at all." I said crunching over. " Can you please go pick El up at the airport for me? Pleeease?"
"Sure. But do you really think you are going to be able to entertain a guest like this?"
"Eghhhh. No but she's almost here so there's nothing I can do about it. Plus I miss her."
"Then go get some sleep, you look like you haven't slept in ages."
"But I slept over twelve hours last night." I said sighing and heading back to my room.
"Maybe you should go see a doctor?" She yelled through the walls.
"Maybe later. I don't like doctors. You know that!" I said shuddering at the thought. I heard mom leave and settled back into bed, wondering how I was going to make it through the rest of the summer.
"Is she awake?" I heard from outside my door who nows how much later. It was still light out so that was a good sign.
"She is right here. And yes El you can come in." I said to the best of my tired ability.
"Damn girl you look like shit." She said laughing as she came in to my room.
"Glad you find this funny." I said sitting up.
"Aweee. You're so cute when you're sick." She said hopping in bedside me in the bed.
"I just haven't been able to shake this one though. It really sucks!"
"You will. You better we gotta hang!"
"I know! I'm the suckiest hostess ever, but we can go out for a walk or something. My stomach has tamed a bit, plus we only have a couple weeks before you move back to Chicago."
"You have to come back!"
"We'll see. London seems pretty interested in me. I'd get to play on a guys team in junior A and live at home, it's tempting!"
"Eghhhh… I hate hockey, it's going to take away my best friend!"
"Hey I didn't say that. I said I was considering other options, I'm not making any decisions until I have to. Plus some college teams are interested too, Chicago might be one of them." I said smiling.
"Thank goodness! But I'll support you whenever you end up. Also so jealous you got to hang out with Olympians all last month!"
"Haha they were a blast. Plus it was nice to hang with the Toews' again."
"How's he been keeping busy?"
"Well he hung around a lot at camp, helping out with practices and such. Now he's up in Ottawa with Amanda." I said smirking.
"Ohhh how fun!" She said winking and laughing. "Let's get some fresh air."
"I agree. I've been sleeping for like a constant 15 or so hours!"
"Shit!"
"And I'm still tired!" I said throwing my hands in the air.
"That sucks. We can head out for a while, and then come back and sleep as I am tired as well although it's from flying and saying goodbye to Brandon." She said wiggling her eyebrows.
"Ahhaaha I see." I said laughing and chucking on some clean shorts and my Team Canada tank. I threw my hair up into a side pony and made my makeup presentable before joining El in the kitchen where her and my mom were talking.
"Show off!" El said laughing.
"You're just jealous. Let's get out of here before I crash again."
"So how's it going?" El asked as we walked around Victoria Park.
"Alright, considering all the shit that's been going on the past couple months."
"So have you decided to forgive him, or not?"
"I get hurt either way. It hurt when it happened it hurt even more not being able to be with him, and it still hurts now, what the hell am I going to do? I'm a friggin mess!" I said sighing.
"Go with your gut. If London is where you're going to stay then maybe it happened for the best. But if you play in Chicago, which you could why not just see where life takes you?"
"I see where you're coming from. Believe me Chicago still has a shot, I guess we will just have to see who makes the best offer and go from there huh?"
"Yah. You two will work it out. I know I've said it a million times but there just isn't a way you two won't end up together."
"Ugghh let's get back. We've been out here for hours." I said as I laughed and yawned at the same time.
"Alright sleepyhead lead the way." She said motioning me forward. It was a nice day, good 30 degree weather, sun shining not a cloud in the sky. The city was vibrant today, lot's of people out walking, lots of kids out playing, it was nice. We made it back in 15 minutes, seeing as we lived in a house just outside of the downtown core. We were back for diner which I barely touched for fear of it not staying down. We watched a bit of TV with the whole family before getting El settled in in the guest room and me settled back into my bed.
Our days were spent shopping, swimming, tanning and sleeping exactly what I would be doing if I was alone. A week more of summer gone, a few more left. Currently we were lounging by my backyard pool, listening to music.
"Want something to drink El?"
"Sure I'll have a soda--sorry pop." She said popping the p and winking.
"Alright. I'll be back." I sat up and made my way into the house and into the basement where we kept the refreshments.
"Uhh El."
"Yah?"
"I think something's wrong. I hurt so bad!" She turned around to see my pathetic self trying to stand up straight.
"Shit! Why now? I have no clue where the friggin doctors are!"
"I'll tell you… google map them or something." I said lying on the couch and closing my eyes. When I woke up I was not on my couch. I blinked my eyes a few times, rubbing them until the blurriness disappeared.
"El What the fuck happened!" I asked the girl sitting beside my bed.
"Shit. You're up. Did you want me to call your parents? I figured I'd let you wake up before calling them."
"Not yet. What the hell is wrong with me?" I growled.
"Don't know. The doctor said it wasn't serious so I held off on the whole parent calling thing. But they wouldn't tell me. Something about confidentiality or something."
"How'd we get here? The last thing I remember is the couch."
"I called the ambulance! I was freaking out you weren't waking up and I didn't know what hospital to go to so…"
"I must have been out. How long have I been sleeping?"
"Couple hours. I texted your mom that we were out and we'd text on our way back. I had a bit of time on my hands." She said laughing.
"Hey guess what. I don't hurt." I said smiling.
"For now. I'm going to get the doctor, let him do his thing and grab myself a coffee while I wait."
"Alright thanks El. Sorry about the whole sucky vacation thing."I said smiling softly sitting up a bit.
"It's been entertaining, at least it hasn't been boring right? Plus we have over a week left…so get your ass better!" She said laughing and heading out the door. Ugghh what the hell is wrong with me? I thought awaiting the doctor's arrival.
"Great your up. I'm doctor Robertson. You can call me Dan if you like."
"What's the verdict? Please tell me I have some condition that's going to force me to quit hockey or die or something!" I exclaimed.
"Haha no. It's nothing medically serious. Though I have never seen it happen quite like this before."
"What?"
"Have you been feeling anything out of the ordinary the past 8 months?"
"Not really. I've been pretty tired, my stomach has acted up a bit. I just figured I was working myself too hard."
"Now this is a little personal, but have you been drinking recently or since January?"
"Um no, why?"
"No reason. So do you have any idea what's wrong?"
"Absolutely no clue, but I know you do Doc so lay it on me."
"Well there's no easy way to explain this, because I can't quite understand it quite yet but…."
"Ohhh God something is definitely wrong with me!" I exclaimed.
"Actually you are perfectly healthy." He said smiling.
"The hell?"
"Yup. You are fine. You just happen to be pregnant."
"What?" I exclaimed eyes bugging out of my head.
"I guess that kind of kills the whole playing hockey thing in the fall huh?" I said still shocked.
"You see that's the thing, you will be able to play in the fall. This is what I don't understand." He said in all doctor seriousness.
"There's no way I can go on the ice looking like a friggin whale." I said shaking my head.
"You wouldn't and you won't be."
"Ok so explain to me how this works Doc. I'm pretty sure the whole 9 months thing kind of applies to all women."
"So the past couple weeks you have been feeling sharp pains in the abdomen area correct?"
"I guess, yah. Where ya going with this Doc?"
"Think back. When was your last um well period?"
"Holy shit--sorry!" He laughed at my desperate attempt to stay calm. Fuck me and my irregular sports period.
"So you see where the dilemma lies?"
"I'm still fucking skinny! That's the friggin dilemma! How the hell does this happen?"
"I honestly can't concretely say. I think it has something to do with the whole sport complex you have going on, plus this is known to happen in some women I just haven't seen it to this extent. I advise lying off the workouts for a little while, and maybe some weight will show."
"Is it healthy?"
"Yes, for the most part everything looks normal minus the whole belly thing."
"Well that's good atleast. I honestly wasn't expecting this." I said resting my head in my hands for a moment before returning my focus on the doctor.
"Actually it surprised me too when I ran my tests. I have to say I was shocked when I ran the ultrasound trying to find the cause of the pain."
"I bet you won't be getting shocked anytime soon. I officially am the most screwed up person ever. What am I going to do? I play professional hockey!" I said sighing.
"Well you will be back awfully soon to have the kid, and then it's up to you." He said shrugging.
"Ugghhh don't remind me."
"So what team do you play for? You're familiar looking but I can't quite figure out why."
"Canada!" I said smiling.
"You aren't the girl that scored those two goals at the Olympics are you?"
"Hahaha nope. However I am her line mate as of this season if I can figure everything out. "
"And you live here?"
"Well I used to. I'm just back for the summer. I was up in Ottawa for school, France for a couple exchanges, and Chicago the past year to finish up my schooling. "
"Wow I'm jealous. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I'll figure out who you are someday." He said winking.
"It won't take you very long. Especially with the drama that's going to come out of this." I said waving my hands around.
"Alright I've got you some natural pain killers, and your discharge papers right here. Make sure you come back if something feels wrong even if you are unsure it's always safe to check. Oh and do you want the pictures we took from earlier today?"
"Thanks I'm going to need them. I will, and yes please."
"Alright Rachel, you are free to go. I'll see you in a month or so."
"Thank you." I said taking the pill bottle and the folder with my name on it. Shit what have I gotten myself into?
"Rach! You're ok!"
"Yup. Clean bill of health. Discharged and everything."
"What ya got? Ewww these look gross." She said opening the pill bottle.
"I know right!" I exclaimed scrunching my face at the bottle's contents. "You might want to sit down before looking in the folder."
"Why?" She asked sitting down anyways. "Holy shit! No FREAKIN way!" She said a little bit louder than I hoped she would.
"Shush!" I said punching her lightly on the shoulder as eyes turned our way. "Now we have to get out of here!" I said pulling her up and out of the hospital lobby. "Atleast they picked the closest hospital." I said smiling. "You got my phone?"
"What? Oh yah here." She said handing me my phone. I texted my mother that we were on our way back home. "So what are you going to do about hockey?"
"Play?" I said shrugging this time I had the upper hand and not the friggin doctor.
"There's no way!" She exclaimed.
"Look at the due date." I said handing her back the folder.
"The fuck? Actually?"
"Don't even ask. I have absolutely no idea the answer to that question."
"Weird. What are you going to tell Pat?"
"Shit! I kinda wanted to forget about that. I have no clue. I can't fly or travel, plus I still need a bit of time, but I'll tell him before the camp starts so he has some time to figure shit out before the season starts." I said.
"Your parents?"
"The truth. The fact I have no idea what's going to happen and what I'm going to do."
"This sucks!" She exclaimed.
"Again this is me, stuck in this situation not you." I said laughing. "At least it wasn't like a fling or something. Then my parents would kill me." I said laughing.
"Yes they would. But your brother's will probably kill Pat when they find out."
"Yes they would! Oh and Jonny's stopping by in a couple days before they head back down to Chicago."
"Sweet. Anyways lets head to bed. It's been a long day!" She exclaimed as we walked though the front door.
"Yes, I'd rather not think about it." I said laughing.
"Night Mom, Dad! See ya tomorrow!" I said to my parents on the couch before we climbed the stairs to our rooms. I fell asleep instantly, but not before realizing I was in deep, and I had no idea what the hell I was going to do.

Great job

Amazing job. Wasn't expecting him to have another kid from a different relationship in this story. Kudos for them for not resenting each other or the kid though. Great job
