The One Night That Changed My Life Forever

Buffalo

"Ugghh remind me again, why we have a kid." I grumbled getting up for the second time of the night. Atleast I got a few hours sleep, and she wasn't loud enough to wake anyone else.
"No clue." Pat chuckled lightly head in the pillow.
"You're lucky you are so cute" I cooed at Bella quietly as I rocked her back to sleep. "See even daddy's tired." I whispered laughing as I looked at a sleeping Pat. There was no way I was falling asleep again, so I figured why not chill downstairs.
"You're up early." I said laughing when I saw Donna already up and functioning in the kitchen.
"6:30 isn't too early sweetheart, but I see you're up as well. Want me to take her so you can get a bit more sleep?"
"I'd want nothing more, but honestly there's no way my body will physically fall asleep another time." I chuckled. "Though I will take you up on that offer if it stands tomorrow morning and I'm exhausted."
"Let me guess Pat is sleeping?" I nodded and laughed.
"He's a guy. I have two older brothers I'm used to it." I laughed accepting the coffee being offered to me. "So are we making some breakfast?" I asked setting the cup down.
"You want to help? Usually my kids are never up in time to help out, though they are all just here for the summer."
"Of course. Like I said two older brothers. They would always leave the cooking to me." I said laughing
"Boys." She said shaking her head. "Remind me again why we love them so much."
"I don't know but they are trouble." I said winking. "You are going to learn that soon enough baby girl." I said quietly to the sleeping baby in my arms.
"You keep her away from those hockey players ya hear? Now they are trouble."
"You don't have to tell me." I said laughing and manoeuvring around the kitchen with one hand, grabbing out the breakfast supplies. "Daddy's going to have to protect you huh? He'll make sure no one messes with you, well he'll get someone else to prove that point." I said laughing.
"You're really good with her, a natural." Donna said smiling.
"Lot's of babysitting practice." I said winking. "I've always been a sucker for a cute face, so if there was a baby in the room you'd likely find me close by."
I wonder how the world is going to take it."
"Not as good as you guys. Most girls hate me as it is, so add this in the mix and really take him off the market I'm afraid I have sunk into a whole new level of hate."
"Is it really that bad?"
"It's taken a lot of getting used to. I'm not used to people hating me. I never imagined having a virtually public relationship and now family. But now I don't let it bug me, though a little privacy here and there would be nice." I said laughing. We decided on pancakes, bacon, eggs, and hash browns for breakfast.
"Hmmmm. Great wake up call." Pat said stretching his arms and taking in the food. "Hey mom." He exclaimed taking Bella from me as she stirred looking confident with her in his arms. He made faces with her before letting her snuggle in again.
"Awwwww Patty. You're so cute in your daddy mode." Erica said laughing as she shook her head at the pair. I snapped a picture and sent it to Jonny, captioning it 'You someday ;).'
"Shut up Erica." He said making a face at her before laughing.
"How's my little niece? Had enough of your annoying dad?" She said stealing her gently.
"I'm not annoying!" Pat pouted.
"Hmmmmm." Donna said winking.
"Rach?!"
"Sorry us girls gotta stick together." I said smirking. "At least you are surrounded by girls that love you." He pouted again. "What? You kinda are sometimes." I said laughing and giving him a hug. "I still love you though." I whispered in his ear. I finally got a smile as he winked back at me on his way to the table.
"So what are the plans for today?" I asked.
"Well us girls are going to have a girls day, a much needed one." Donna said smiling.
"Sweet. What's the plan?"
"My son over here gets to babysit." She said winking. "And I am taking you and my girls to the spa."
"You sure?" I questioned, unsure of whether it was safe to leave Bella alone.
"Yes. And no you don't have a say Patrick." She semi glared at him as she turned smiling back to me.
"I really do--"
"She's not taking no for an answer." Pat said shaking his head. "Might as well just agree." He said nodding.
"I guess, seeing as I really don't have a choice. Plus it would be fun." I smiled. A day relaxing, no workouts, no hockey, no crying baby, no stress, no expectations just a full day of pure bliss, fun? Hell it's going to be amazing, but I didn't want to sound too enthusiastic.
"Perfect, let me get the girls up and we'll be on our way then."
"Sorry." I smiled softly at Pat.
"She's right, even though she didn't say it I have to learn to take care of her on my own too."
"I don't have to go."
"Yah ya do." He said dragging it out.
"Haha okay then. You take care of our baby girl." I said winking.
"A few friends might come over, if that's alright?"
"You don't have to ask me." I said laughing. "I'm not going to put you into isolation. Just remember your priority isn't them anymore. Other than that have fun. I can take her later if you wanted to do something."
"Mhmmmm I love you." He said leaning in for a kiss.
"I love ya too. I'm glad you didn't run." I said pressing my lips back up against his.
"5 years ago I probably would have. Now I just couldn't. Though I am scared shitless to be completely honest. I know nothing. I was into sports as a kid, never really and time for anything else. "
"You have three younger sisters, you will figure it out. But don't hesitate to call. It's one interruption I won't mind." I said smiling, giving him another quick kiss and following the rest of the girls outside.

Patrick's POV
At least she's sleeping I thought to myself as I settled onto the couch. I could do this, right? I looked at the little girl sleeping on me and smiled. "You and I will be just fine." I whispered as she continued sleeping. My morning consisted of that. Sleeping and cuddling on the couch watching sports. I was turning into a girl minus the sports part, I thought to myself as I went to the kitchen to make some lunch for the two of us.
"What you making?" Dad asked walking through the door.
"A sandwich." I said laughing.
"Mmmmm make me one. I'm starved." He said winking.
"Just take this one. I have to feed her, she's not happy." I said nodding to the crying baby. "Does it ever stop?" I exclaimed
"Not for 18 years." He said laughing. "Here give her to me and make a sandwich. I'll feed her."
"Thanks." I said handing him the lukewarm bottle. "Yes I know baby that doesn't taste as yummy as when Momma feeds you, but I can't help it." I said chuckling as she took the bottle anyways.
"You're going to be a great dad Pat, just trust in yourself."
"Really? I'm going to be terrible. I don't know anything, and we are always going to have hockey. I don't know how this is going to work. I just don't know Dad."
"You will. You guys will work it out. What's the plan in Chicago?"
"Well, we converted one of the guest rooms into a nursery." I said shrugging.
"That's good." He said laughing. "And for you and Rach? Everything good?"
"Yah, we're good. Still figuring out this whole kid thing, but everything is great between us." I said smiling, hoping it stayed that way.
"She's good for you Pat. "
"I know." I said smiling. I've known that ever since I got to know her I thought to myself. He smiled back, and took the sandwich back to the couch to watch some TV.
"Oh and by the way, I think some of the family is coming over for supper tonight as you only have one more day here."
"Great." I sighed rubbing my face with my hand. "They meet Rachel for the first time, and then I'll be like 'Oh yah, forgot I also have a kid now. Sorry for not telling you.' "
"It's just our family and friends, you'll be fine." Dad said smiling.
"Mhmmm. I'm going to call James and get him to come out early and help us cook food. We are barbecuing right?"
"Yup our annual end of the summer Kane barbecue. It's been a while since we've had a new addition however. It would be great if the two of you could do the barbecuing."
"Alright, I'll get him to come around 4, the girls should be getting back around then."
"Perfect. Thanks for the sandwich." He said winking before he turned his focus back on the TV, and me to my room. I changed into a pair of board shorts as well as possible with a baby in my arms and went outside to enjoy the last few days of summer I had left, before everything changed back into hockey mode, and well now kid mode.
"Yo Pat. You out here?" I heard my cousin James call out from the house. Damn, I must of fallen asleep. Isabella was still thankfully sleeping soundly in my arms. She must have been as tired as me huh? I thought to myself.
"Yah man!" I called. "Can you turn on the BBQ on your way out? I wasn't supposed to fall asleep."
"Sleeping through your days off, not very exciting." He said emerging and walking straight to the BBQ. "Whoa. Wait! What is that?" He said pointing to Bella in my arms.
"A baby what does it look like?" I said slightly furrowing my eyebrows like he had just asked the stupidest of questions.
"No shit. Who's is it?"
"Uhhhhh…."
"Damn. Bet you wish you had that night back. So she splits leaving the kid, and how much did you have to shell out? Maybe I should have taught you better."
"It's not like that."
"It looks a lot like you, you and a baby, and well yah you with a kid. Where's the momma, you even sure it's yours. Those damn girls will do anything these days. Please tell me it wasn't that bitch Megan. I never liked her." He exclaimed.
"No, it wasn't Megan, yes I'm sure it's mine. I mean look, she looks like me you idiot. And no I did not 'shell out' any money."
"So you're stuck with a baby. Do you even know how to take care of one?"
"James! Would you shut up. It was not just some random hookup!" I exclaimed making my way to the BBQ.
"Uhhhhh Pat, we are back." My sisters and Rach said from the deck.
"Sorry about that." I said rubbing the back of my head. "James over here was assuming things." I said nodding over at my smei-stunned cousin. "How was the spa?"
"Great!" Erica said enthusiastically. "Now give us Bella back." She said laughing. "Hey James." She said waving as they joined us by the BBQ.
"Mmmmm, smells great babe." Rach said giving me a quick kiss before stealing Bella.
"Thanks. Much easier to cook with two hands." I said smiling. "Spa day was good?"
"Yup. All set to get back on the ice for practice Friday."
"Man, I can't wait to get that uniform back on. At least you had Winnepeg over the summer. I was stuck practicing alone." I said pouting.
"Awww. That just means you are too good. I needed the practice." She said laughing.
"Why thank you but I need practice just as much as anyone." I said chuckling. "Sorry, this is my cousin James." I said pointing at my cousin talking to Erica.
"Nice to meet you." He said sticking his arm out for a handshake.
"Rachel." She said returning the hand shake.
"So you're the girl Pat was whining about all summer huh?"
"I was not!" I exclaimed.
"Were too." Everyone responded. Rach squeezed my hand and smiled.
"That would be me. Sorry I was stuck in Winnipeg for hockey tryouts. Nice to meet you too."
"So you play too huh?"
"Does she play?" Erica exclaimed shaking her head chuckling.
"I'll take that as a yes." He said laughing. "I take it you aren't too bad then."
"Nahh, I'm alright." she said smiling. "I can beat Pat here at a skating race, well the whole team for that matter." she said winking at me, as I turned my head down back towards the BBQ pretending to be super embarrassed.
"Damn. Patty. You need to get working out man. You got beat by a girl!" James said laughing.
"I'd like to see you race her." I said in a challenging tone.
"Nahh, that's okay. If she can beat you I don't stand a chance." He said shaking his head. "So how long have you two been dating again?"
"9 months give or take a day or two." Rach said looking back towards James.
"Funny." He chuckled. "And you have a kid huh?"
"That actually is funny." She said smiling. "I didn't find out until about a month ago. Kind of a freak occurrence. But that story is too long, and is for another day. I'll be right back." She said smiling as her and my sisters went back into the house, presumably to take care of Bella. I found myself smiling just watching them walk away.
"Someone's happy." James said bringing me back to reality.
"Sorry." I mumbled flipping the steak and burgers.
"So you guys didn't know? Or was that just a story?"
"No, we actually didn't." I said shrugging.
"Probably a good thing, you wouldn't have dated her for the right reasons. My little Patty's in looooooove." He said laughing.
"Shush. You're just jealous." I said shaking my head.
"Damn straight! She's hot." He said laughing. I punched him lightly on the shoulder. "Well she is. Don't worry I won't try and steal her." He said laughing. "There would be no point, she's obviously in love with you."
"You better not." I said laughing as he went in and grabbed the case of beer.
"Here." He said passing me a bottle. "So when are you going to take the next step? I mean you two are obviously going to end up together for the long run. "
"I honestly have no clue. Everything is kind of crazy right now. Hockey is starting, I have a kid, my life is just all over the place right now. Not to say I haven't thought about it. I've caught myself looking in jewellery stores. I just think it's best to let the hype die down a bit before adding to the craziness."
"Man. I never would have thought this. I never pictured you settling down before me." My 27 year old cousin said shaking his head.
"There are my boys." James' dad said taking a beer and sitting with us as I put the meat on a plate and covered it. "Everyone's just getting here." He said as I put on some more burgers. "Ready for the season Patty?"
"Yah. It's going to be good this year."
"What's this I hear about some chick being drafted?" It was on the sports segment this morning. Was her name Rachel or something?" he asked. I smirked and nodded at James who's jaw dropped.
"Yup. She's a damn good player." I said laughing. "Right James?"
"Haha heard she beat you in a skating race."
"Who told you that?" I said acting shocked.
"She did obviously. You were never going to admit that." He said laughing.
"How do you know her? When's the last time you were in Chicago?"
"Actually she's Canadian. She's actually up in Buffalo visiting friends and family I think." I said shrugging.
"That must be an incredible accomplishment. Especially being a girl. Come on James get your butt in gear. If a girl can do it you can too." James' dad Pete exclaimed. "Patty think you could introduce us to the first woman in the NHL someday? Maybe at one of your games or something?"
"I'm sure it can be arranged." I said laughing. "Now you're just using me Uncle Pete." I said winking as more guests made it out to the backyard.
"Hey! It's a woman in the NHL. Who gets to say that they've met the only one?"
"I don't know. James managed just fine without me." I said and James chuckled.
"I did, though I wasn't aware of her status at the time. She's really nice, I would enjoy seeing her more often."
"Ooooo, maybe you two will end up dating and getting married." Pete said laughing as both our eyes widened. "What?"
"Dad that's not happening. She's soon to be engaged if her idiot of a boyfriend finally proposes." James said.
"Damn that guy's a lucky son of a bitch." Pete said as we both burst into laughter.
"What? He is." I shook my head spotting Rach by the deck handing Bella off to my mom and talking to some of the women who came. I waved at her to come over.
"Uncle Pete there's someone I'd like you to meet." I said laughing. "May I present Rachel Carson, my girlfriend." I said as she sat down on my lap.
"You must be Pete. Nice to finally meet you, heard lots about you." She said laughing and offering her hand. Pete looked between the three of us with a bewildered expression on his face, before returning the handshake. "So what did I interrupt?" she asked.
"Oh nothing Uncle Pete was just a little bit starstruck." I said as James laughed.
"Oooo of who?"
"You."
"Me?" She questioned.
"Yah, they aired the broadcast about you signing with us this morning. Uncle Pete reeeeeaaaalllyy wanted to meet you. Wanted me to use my status to get you in the same room as him."
"I hope he'll settle for the backyard instead of that room." She said laughing. "So would you like my first autograph or a picture?"
"Well, now I feel bad. Congrats by the way."
"Oh, don't. I really don't mind. You can be my first fan." She said winking.
"Why don't we all take a picture and then we can sign it after. That picture will be worth a million bucks someday." I said.
"That works." Pete said laughing.
"Erica bring the camera over. Please." I yelled to my sister as I put the rest of the burgers on the plate that my mom had moved onto the food table. We took a goofy picture with Uncle Pete and James, before getting up for some food. Rachel excused herself back to the ladies fawning over Bella, and we returned to our food. We talked a little bit more, before I excused myself and joined Rach. I hugged her from behind, and smiled as she melted into my embrace. "Hello ladies." I said with a big smile. "Did you enjoy your food?"
"Yup, it was good. Still good on the BBQ huh?" My mom's friend questioned.
"Haha not bad." I said laughing. "So I see you've met Rachel." I said smiling, and kissing the back of her head.
"Yes we have, and we definitely approve of the two of you being together." The ladies agreed nodding to each other.
"Hmmmm I's that so." I said laughing. "That's good, cause I love her." I smiled.
"We couldn't tell." They said laughing. "So you finally settling down and starting a family then?" One of the ladies asked.
"Well, that's definitely the plan. Though I think we've already passed that stage." I said as Bella played with my finger I had wrapped around Rachel.
"We're proud of you Patty. " They smiled.
"Thank you." I laughed and continued playing with Bella. The rest of the evening was much of the same. Rach was introduced to the family, who were very happy to meet her. They were surprised that we had a kid, but they seemed okay with it and happy for us. We gave Uncle Pete 2 scares in one night, as we introduced him to Bella. He realized what James had mean't when he said he really didn't have a chance. A few hours later everyone started to clear out leaving just my family and us. 'That went well' I thought to myself. Rach and I helped clean up a little before calling it a night and heading up to our room.
"Your family and friends are nice." Rach said as she put Bella in bed.
"Your's are too." I chuckled. "Minus the fact Scotty wanted to kill me."
"Don't worry I knocked some sense into the idiot." She said laughing and grabbing some clothes to change into. I couldn't help but look. My eyes were drawn to her, as they raked over every inch of her body. I think she could sense me staring, because she turned and smiled.
"Did I pass your inspection?" She asked, still not completely dressed.
"Rach I want you so bad, it hurts." I exclaimed as I pulled her in closer until she was right up against me. God I wasn't going to last at this rate, I thought to myself as she pressed her lips to mine, straddling my waist.
"Not here." She whispered into my ear.
"Rach!" I growled slightly as she pushed up against me. Damn this girl was going to be the death of me. It was going to be hard for either of us to stop as we were both consumed in the kiss.
"No. Your family is just downstairs."
"So?"
"No Pat. Just no." She said laughing and pulling away slightly.
"Hmmph." I muttered pouting slightly before lying back on the bed.
"Chicago." she whispered in my ear, smiling before giving me a quick kiss and settling into bed, turning out the light on her way. I fell asleep with a smile on my face and a beautiful girl beside me in bed.
***********
Rachel's POV
The past couple days were definitely interesting. From meeting Pat's family, and friends to hanging out with his mom and sisters. He had guilted, and convinced me to visit his house. The girls loved the excuse to take care of the baby. The house had been just as stunning in the inside as it had been from the outside. That day had gone pretty quickly, ending with family photos, and photos of Bella, Pat and I decked out in our Hawks jerseys, and jumper. Bringing us to now as we hugged and said our goodbyes, making our way to the airport and pulling into what seemed like a back entrance. "So where's our plane, you never gave me my ticket."
"That's cause you don't need a ticket." He said as we walked towards a plane.
"You shouldn't have." I whispered.
"Rach. You forget I'm literally a millionaire, this is how I normally fly it's not a problem. Plus there would have been media all over us."
"I know, it's just weird, but thank you. I see where you are coming from." I said as we got on the plane. The flight wasn't long, and Bella wasn't super fussy. We touched down on a runway I guessed was more commonly used for private planes or cargo planes as there wasn't much activity.
"You would get Jonny to pick us up." I said shaking my head as I recognized the figure leaning up against the vehicle.
"Hey! He offered. Something about seeing his god daughter again or something like that." He said laughing.
"Doesn't surprise me one bit. If only the world saw that side of him. They wouldn't call him Captain Serious anymore."
"Let's not let that out. He has an image to maintain." Pat said smirking.
"Hey you did too, and look at ya now. What are all your girly fans going to think?"
"Very funny. They will hate you, but that doesn't matter cause I don't care what they think" he said winking and giving me a quick kiss as we got off the plane.
"Jonny!" I exclaimed. "Apparently you've been missing a certain someone." I said breaking into a smile as he made his way over to us.
"Damn. The pictures didn't do her justice. What have you guys been feeding her? She's grown so much over the past couple weeks." He said as she snuggled into his arms.
"Just a strict diet of milk Jonny." I said laughing as Pat and I chucked our bags in the car.
"Looks like she's going to be a blondie huh?" He said playing with her barely existent hair.
"No clue. Would make sense though." I said nodding between Pat and I. "Apparently the hair colour can change so we will see." I said taking Bella back and settling in the backseat behind the two boys who instantly switched onto the topic of the hockey season that was rapidly approaching. Jon parked in the underground garage so as we could have a bit of privacy. The boys went up first with the bags, and I came up just after heavily disguised in a hoodie and glasses, as well as a hat. So much for a normal life I thought to myself. Nobody paid too much attention to me, however a cute older couple commented on how cute Bella was. I thanked them and smiled. Apparently they lived on the same floor as Pat and we chatted on our way to our rooms. They had been married for the longest time, and you could tell that they still loved each other even at their age. I hoped for that as well. Pat must of heard us talking as he opened the door and laughed.
"Wondered what was taking you guys so long. Hey!" he exclaimed waving at the older couple.
"You know I like to talk." I said winking, before saying goodbye to the couple and making my way into the apartment.
"I know, and everyone loves talking to you." He said laughing. "Anyone bother you?"
"Nope. I kinda stuck with the older couple and no one paid much attention what so ever. They found my disguise funny, and our baby girl adorable." I said laughing.
"Well that's good. Is it alright if Jonny sticks around for supper?"
"He knows he's always welcome, at least coming from me he is. I don't know about you…" I winked laughing. "I have nothing planned for food though, you guys might want to order in."
"Alright. Go get settled back in and do what you have to do. I'll order food, and take Bella." He said reaching out his arms.
"Thanks babe." I said giving him a quick kiss, smiling at Jon, and making my way towards a nice, warm, relaxing shower. I was cleaned up and dressed in around thirty minutes. I was feeling refreshed, but hungry. The food was just arriving as Jonny had Bella and Pat was paying the delivery man in the hallway. "Mmmmmmm smells better than anything I could cook." I said as Pat came in with an abundance of food.
"Just sushi." Pat said laughing.
"Still smells delicious. I'm not looking forward to these stupid hockey diets." I said pouting. "You want me to take her Jonny?" I asked pointing at Bella.
"I'm good for now, but when she starts crying thats where I draw the line."
"I think she got that out with Grandma when she was baby siting in Buffalo, isn't that right baby girl. She should sleep a bit more, which is going to suck for my sleep tonight but oh well."
"So what are you guys doing tomorrow?" Jonny asked as he grabbed a fork to facilitate eating his sushi with his opposite hand.
"I don't know. Anything planned tomorrow Pat?"
"Sleep." He said laughing. "Uhhh I wanted to get some of the pictures from the past couple weeks developed. I thought we could have supper maybe with El, Jonny, and maybe invite Beccs over as well." He said shrugging.
"Perfect I'm going to have to ask if she will be willing to watch Bella, when there's no way we can. Q said we can have her tag along on the long road trips and they would have someone watch her during the games, but even that will be tough sometimes. Thank God she's somewhat of a regular sleeper."
"I'm sure she won't mind. She needs someone to preoccupy her time."
"I hope!" I exclaimed, as I texted El to invite her and Beccs over the next day. "They are in." I said as El responded to my text.
"Perfect." The boys said laughing.
"Hey! Doesn't Amanda fly down here soon?" I exclaimed.
"Yup. She'll be here in a week or so. She's coming down for our first game. I know she likes kids so she won't mind looking after Bella if she's around. I think she's planning on coming on some of the road games too."
"I can't wait to see that girl again. Texting just doesn't cut it!" I said laughing. I can't believe it's only a couple weeks until October."
"It's been an interesting year." Jonny said laughing.
"I wouldn't trade it for the world." I said smiling.
"Neither would I" Pat said, and Jon nodded in agreeance.
"That's good." I said laughing, and taking Bella as she started to squirm in Jon's arms. I fed her and let her rest in my arms as we cleaned up the remains of our delicious supper. Then we all sat around talking on the couch. The boys broke out the beer, and we talked and laughed as if we had known each other forever.
"Apparently Sharpie wants me to go over for supper tomorrow night." Jon said looking at his phone.
"He texted me earlier. I said I was busy." Pat said laughing. "I say no so he turns to you. Funny."
"Yo Sharpie what's up?" Jon said into the phone.
"Right now. I'm hanging out at Kaner's, just heading home though."
"Tomorrow's not the best day."
"I kind of already have dinner plans."
"No I'm not blowing you off. I actually have plans. You know I wouldn't say no to Abby's cooking." Jon said laughing.
"Neither would I" Pat whispered laughing.
"Alright see you at practice Friday. Invite Sadder. Rach is going to have Ellie preoccupied tomorrow so I know he won't turn you down." Jon chuckled.
"Yup, see you Friday." He said hanging up the phone.
"Well I'm going to head out. Let me know if you guys need me to bring anything tomorrow night." Jon said making his way to the door.
"Thanks for everything Jonny!" I exclaimed, waving as he walked out the door. I put Bella in her cradle in our makeshift nursery which I decided I should paint. I set up the baby monitor and hoped for some peace and quiet. I turned of the light, and shut the door quietly before making my way back to Pat's bedroom and set the monitor down on the bedside table hopping on the bed.
"Remember what you promised me back in Buffalo?" Pat came in smirk on his face.
"Ummm nope, you're going to have to remind me." I smirked right back.
"I have no problem doing that." He said laughing joining me on the bed and capturing me in a heart stopping kiss.
"Doesn't it feel weird doing anything with a kid in the room across from us?"
"Once she get's older yes, now not too bad." Pat said chuckling. "She better not start crying."
"Haha we should have another hour or so, judging from her sleeping patterns."
"Would I be a bad parent if I just let her cry?"
"Yup!" I said laughing. "Take it easy on me." I whispered.
"I will." He chuckled before resuming the kiss.
"Oh my god, you don't know how long I've been waiting to do that." Pat said lying back.
"Two and a half months?" I joked.
"The longest and hardest two and a half months of my life."
"Sorry Babe. I hope it was worth the wait." I said laughing as I cuddled in closer.
"You were amazing as always." He said winking.
"Really even after having a kid?"
"Mmhmmm. Perfect," He said smiling and kissing my forehead. "I wouldn't care anyways. It was our kid." He said chuckling.
"Not happening again anytime soon!" I exclaimed remembering back to my painful labour. Pat laughed.
"Sounds good with me. Though I don't know how she came to be, but I need to learn how to take care of one before thinking about having another." He said laughing.
"I'm not sure either. We always were safe in that sense, but surprises happen I guess. Now I need to try and get some sleep before said baby wakes up and demands my attention. I said. Pat turned out the lights and we settled into a deep sleep even if only for a short period of time.
Morning rolled around, and surprisingly I had gotten a pretty good sleep. Bella was getting better at sleeping for longer periods of time, and she wasn't as fussy when I did have to wake up to stop her from crying. We were down to roughly two cries per night. I had to feed her once, and change her but other than that I just had to rock her until she fell back asleep. My body was used to it by now. Sure it was exhausting but I made sure to grab extra naps here and there while she was sleeping. Pat went out, into the city. He apparently wanted to develop some pictures to put up on the walls. I had no idea which ones, but probably some with Izzy, Bella, and I. I was therefore left playing with the baby, and getting ready for tonight. The girls would be over soon, so I decided to wait and just relax in front of the TV waiting for their arrival.
"Tired much?" I heard, as I opened my eyes to Ellie looming over top of me.
"Shut up." I chuckled, passing her Bella and getting up to make myself the least bit presentable. "Come on in, make yourself at home." I said laughing. "I'll be right back, just going to change quick." With that I headed to the bedroom where I had moved a bunch of my clothes in. I found a clean pair of jeans, and a simple flowy top. I ran a brush through my hair and chucked on a bit of mascara before returning to the girls who were chatting on the couch.
"So this is little Isabella huh? She's beautiful." Beccs gushed.
"Thanks. Sorry about kicking you out of the apartment. I know my old room is quite a downgrade from what you had here," I chuckled.
"Not a problem. It was generous of both of you in the first place. Plus your room is like the size of half of what I could afford at the moment so I can't complain."
"Alright, so I was hoping to ask you two for a favour."
"Yes." El said.
"Well as you guys know mine and Pat's schedule is practically the same, so we might need someone to look after Bella sometimes during practices, games, or short away game trips. Since I love both of you I was hoping maybe you guys could help sometimes, if it isn't too much to ask." I said smiling and crossing my fingers like and idiot. "We could pay you too." I added.
"It's the least I can do." Beccs said. "I could look after her during the away games, I could use a distraction." She said laughing.
"I come to the home games and practices anyways so it would be fine. Plus the other WAG's like Abby, Kellie-Rae, Dayna, or the other mothers wouldn't mind either." El said.
"They all have their own kids though, and I don't really trust the random girls the other guys bring around, but yes I'm sure they wouldn't mind." I said laughing. "Thank you both so much, you don't know how much this means to us!" I exclaimed.
"Pat is paying my rent until I can get back on track after paying those hospital bills, it's honestly the least I can do. Plus the kid is cute." Beccs said laughing. It was good to see her laughing again almost three months after the passing of her daughter.
"I'm Baaack!" Pat said coming into the apartment carrying a couple larger bags.
"Hey babe." I said laughing from the couch.
"Hey ladies." Pat smirked before heading to the bedroom. He was back five minutes later. "So who wants to see the pictures? No crying!" He said pointing at all three of us.
"No promises. Don't show us any sad ones then."
"Fine." he said chuckling. The first picture was of us and his family with the cup.
"Jonny took that picture." I said laughing.
The next was of us at the Olympics with the other Hawks and their medals.
"I'm sensing a pattern." El said laughing.
"Yes. You should." Pat said winking. The next picture was us in France at the wedding, with my host family.
"You totally took some of my pictures." I said laughing.
"Well, I don't take pictures." He said laughing back. The next picture was LA, during the playoffs. The next two were baby ones. One was of me and Bella in our knights gear, and the other was the one from Buffalo of us in our Hawks jerseys. The second last picture was of the team at the bar with us all looking like idiots. He didn't show the last one and I figured he was probably right in doing so, as it was probably too soon to bring Izzy up with Beccs.
"Soooo you like?" Pat asked.
"Yes, they were beautiful." The girls said smiling.
"Good. My walls are looking a little bare." He said laughing. "So what's for supper tonight ladies?"
"Chicken, pasta and the girls brought salad. What do you want for desert? If anything seeing as we have practice tomorrow."
"Don't make anything if you don't feel like it. Make cookies or something small if you do decide to do dessert. "
"Alright. What are you going to do while we cook?"
"Put up some of the pictures, and hang with Jonny boy. He should be here soon."
"Sounds good. Ready girls?" I said heading to the kitchen. I had quickly become accustomed to cooking one handed. When we were done we had chicken, pasta, and a mushroom sauce for the two. We had a caesar salad that the girls had brought, and we had decided to make a quick batch of cookies to snack on for dessert. Jon had brought a couple bottles of wine for us girls, and the boys had already gotten into the beer. We put all the food on the table, and put out the plates. It didn't look or smell half bad, though it wouldn't because it was a delicious french recipe passed down from my host mother. We had enough food to feed an army, probably being a good thing as these boys could eat.
"Mmmmmm. Smells great girls." Jon said as him and Pat came back from their picture hanging adventures. "Why is Sharpie still bugging me?" Jon exclaimed, answering his phone.
"Yes."
"My dinner plans are great. It's not as though I've never declined dinner at your house before."
"Yes, I'm at Kaner's why?"
"Yes, dinner over here is actually great." He said shaking his head.
"Sorry for declining your offer you idiot." Jon said laughing. "We are having chicken, pasta and salad."
"Yes, now leave me alone so we can eat. We can't keep the ladies waiting. See you tomorrow." Jon said laughing.
"He wanted to make sure we didn't get food poisoning from eating the food. Also just rubbing it in our faces that dinner at his house is better." Jon said clearly amused.
"Whatever." I said laughing and shaking my head. "Let's eat. That is unless you are afraid of getting food poisoning." I chuckled as we all grabbed seats.
"Who the hell is that?" I said getting up and heading towards the apartment door. "Are you kidding me?" I exclaimed. "That idiot." I said shaking my head, as Pat looked through the peephole.
"You might as well let them in, they brought food." Pat said laughing.
"Ummm hello." I said sticking my head out into the hallway looking at a smiling Sharpie in the hallway. "Come on in Abbs. As for you, I don't remember inviting you." I said laughing at Sharpie.
"I brought food!"
"Well actually, Abby probably cooked the food, and well she already brought it in so try again." I said smirking.
"Kaner! You going to let her do this?"
"It's quite funny actually." Pat said chuckling beside me. "Plus you are uninvited."
"Holy Shit!" I heard Abby call from the dining room. She stared in between the two of us, and we shrugged and returned our focus back on Sharpie.
"What did you do to my wife?"
"Nothing." We said laughing. "Pat entertain Sharpie a bit more before letting him in, he's gotta suffer without food for a while." I said winking and sticking my tongue out, before heading back to the dining room.
"Hey Abbs, how's it going?" I asked laughing as she was calming down from a nice little shock.
"What the fuck? How? That kid looks just like Kaner."
"Uhhh. It was weird believe me. Apparently my body has a different idea of carrying a kid. Anyways yah…." I said shrugging.
"Patrick is going to flip his shit when he sees her." She said laughing.
"Let's see how long we can keep that from happening. Beccs will take her."
"I want details! I can't believe you guys didn't tell me." She said pouting.
"To be fair we haven't really told anyone, it's kind of new, like a couple of weeks new. We were telling the guys tomorrow, but you guys just showed up so…" I said laughing. "Go ahead and eat guys, we will be back. Save me some food." I said laughing as Abbs and I made our way towards the bedroom. "You can let him in Pat, I think he's suffered enough." I said laughing. "Like I said to everyone else, save us some food." I said looking at both Patricks.
Abby and I settled down in the bedroom. She sat on the bed as I grabbed my laptop. I slid in beside her propping myself up on the pillows. "Ok where do you want me to start?"
"I honestly don't know what to say, you're sure she came out of you?"
"Um, yes the pain I felt is unforgettable." I said laughing. "Ive got videos too."
"So when did you find out?"
"After Winnipeg. I came home and was experiencing some form of contractions. I kind of passed out on Ellie, so she got me to the hospital where I found out."
"When was she born?"
"August 29th, at 10:43 in the morning." I showed her the video of Bella getting passed around. Then of the one of Pat and her meeting. Then I showed her pictures from the last couple of weeks. The ones from London, Buffalo, and the ones from here.
"Wow! That boy is in love with you. You two will be such a beautiful family." Abby said giving me a hug.
"Thanks. I hope so. I love him too. Though your husband must be too interested in his food as I have not heard any sort of commotion out there." I said laughing. "I would have told you sooner, but we were going to do it in person, and tomorrow was the first chance to do it."
"That's my man for you." She said laughing. "Don't worry about it, all is forgiven.."
"Why don't we go grab some food before it's all gone." I said heading towards the door.
"Sounds good. I wasn't in the mood for cooking anything extravagant like Patrick made it sound."
"That's all good, we will definitely stop by sometime. I've heard an Abby Sharp meal is to die for." I said laughing and heading out to the hallway.
"Damn the two of you are just so cute." Abby said looking at the photos the guys had put up earlier today.
"Eh, we try." I said laughing.
"You two will be just fine, though the whole baby thing is unexpected."
"You aren't the only one who was surprised believe me. I think we will be fine, everything has been a bit crazy lately but I'm not to worried."
"This place feels better with you here. I'm guessing you are moving in?"
"At some point probably. I just have my clothes here now. I don't need much else for now."
"Her name is Isabella right? Let me guess, because of Izzy right?"
"Yah that's definitely part of it. I just always loved the name." I said shrugging.
"Man we should have done this with our kids." Abby exclaimed looking at the jersey photos.
"You still can. They aren't too old." I said laughing.
"I guess. I'll run it past Patrick later. Now for that food."
"Hey guys." We said as I pulled up a few more chairs for Abby and I. "Thanks for saving some." I said putting some food on the plate. "Hows the food Sharpie? Up to par?"
"Delicious." He said finishing his plate. I looked between Pat and Jonny and nodded at Sharpie and they just shook their heads with amused looks on their faces. We made it through dinner and Sharpie was still oblivious.
"He must be off or something. He isn't one to miss something like this." Abby said on their way out.
"Haha I know right. Thats alright. He'llfind out tomorrow like everyone else." I said laughing and giving Abby a hug before she left. The two girls left not too long afterwards. Jonny stuck around for another beer, before heading off to get sleep before tomorrow's practice.
"Maybe Sharpie's going to get all the flack tomorrow. Completely oblivious." I said shaking my head as we finished cleaning up, and headed to the bedroom to get some sleep. Once Bella was fed, changed and tucked away I fell into bed. We both fell asleep as soon as we hit the pillows. Practice with the big boys tomorrow, I thought to myself smiling as my eyes refused to stay open any longer.

Great job

Amazing job. Wasn't expecting him to have another kid from a different relationship in this story. Kudos for them for not resenting each other or the kid though. Great job
