The Diary of an Unintentional Puck Slut

September 12, 2014

September 5, 2014

Dear Diary,

Caeleigh has been so… emotional since she got here. Like, sometimes she’s raging mad at Geno, other times she seems happy, yet sometimes she randomly cries. Like the other day she was watching some baby cartoon show with the twins and there was a penguin, and I guess that a cute baby cartoon penguin reminded her of Geno.

She spends a couple of hours each day tanning, or at least trying to. I think she has finally gotten some color, though it’s hard to tell. I have to keep reminding her to wear sunscreen because she burns so easily and the last thing she needs right now is a bad sunburn.

I am determined to cheer her up no matter what it takes, and I think I have the perfect plan.

There are a couple of guys on the team that are single, I think, and I’m going to try to set her up with one of them. But I have to make it look like it happened accidentally. Like, ‘oops I forgot we invited you over, we were just heading out, but you can stay here with Caeleigh if you want.’

Brandon thinks this is a good idea too, and we’ve been plotting secretly whenever she’s not around.

“So, according to the wags, Logan Couture and Jason Demers are both single and seem nice, what do you know about them?”

“Logan, they call him Cooch, is cool, maybe a little cocky, but he’d be a good match for her.”

“Cooch?” I asked. “I think I’m just going to call him Logan…”

“And Jason,” Brandon continued, ignoring me, “is like his best friend, they have a ‘bromance’ or something going on that I don’t really understand. But Jason’s funny, maybe not Caeleigh’s type, but he’d cheer her up.”

“Yeah, but I don’t really know what Caeleigh’s type is anyway, I mean she dated Geno, so I guess hockey players are her type,” I replied, trying to think if she’d mentioned any of her ex’s to me.

“I think a good way for her to meet the team would be if she became an ice girl again,” Brandon suggested. “I know you don’t want to do that again, but do you think she’d be up to it?”

“I don’t know, but the Sharks do need some decent ice girls. I guess the fad of having ice girls perform at intermission didn’t make it to the western conference until this season. The ones they have now are like high school cheer leaders and don’t know how to skate, it kind of makes me sad,” I laughed, though it was sad. I watched one of their practices but had to leave because it was so horrible.

“How long is she even going to stay with us? I’m not complaining; I think it’s great she’s here to help you with the twins and everything, but did you see the number of suitcases she brought?”

“Yes, and that’s typical of Caeleigh. That’s probably not even all of her clothes,” I smiled, remembering the one time I had helped her go through all over her clothes to get rid of stuff she didn’t wear any more, and it took four days. Literally.

I waited until Caeleigh was in one of her ‘good’ moods before asking her about it. There were no cartoon baby penguins around to make her sad, and she’d just returned from buying yet even more clothes, so she had to be in a good mood.

“Hey Caels, I have a funny question for you,” I was trying not to sound overly nice, but I think it showed. “Have you thought of being an ice girl for the Sharks? They really need some help, and you’re just the person.”

“I see what you’re doing here,” she looked at me, a little disappointed. “You want to get me out of the house more so you and Brandon can be alone.”

“No, no that’s not it at all. We love having you around. I just that you might want to do that; you wouldn’t have to try out or anything.”

“If they need so much help, why don’t you do it?” She had a good point, and I couldn’t think of a reason and lying on the spot is not my thing, not anymore at least.

“I, uh, can’t. The twins, you know?”

“I can watch them, or you could get a nanny.”

“Why don’t we both do it?” I regretted saying it as soon as the words left my mouth, but she looked so happy and genuinely smiled for the first time since she arrived a few days ago, so I couldn’t take it back now.

“Emme that would be so much fun!!” She ran over and hugged me. “It’ll be like old times.”

“Yeah, except I won’t be sleeping with the entire team, just Brandon,” I laughed.

So, now we’re going to be ice girls. I guess that means I’m going to have to get back in shape.

Fuck.

Sincerely,

Emme

Dear Diary

So far, our plan is working. The fact that I am ridiculously out of shape has only helped more, even if it is a bit embarrassing for me.

Shark’s management was psyched to have ‘two of the best figure skaters in the league’ on their ice team (their words, not mine). They even called us the Sid and Geno of ice girls, which was not something Caeleigh needed to hear, but of course Shark’s management doesn’t know that they are our ex boyfriends. Either way, they wanted us to start immediately.

We began teaching their ice girls basic figure skating skills and I ran into the same problem I had in Raleigh. Most little girls don’t learn to figure skate in warm climate areas because they don’t have frozen lakes or ponds to skate on, like we did up north. I don’t even remember learning to skate it happened so long ago, but at least I’d had a proper skating coach in college, so I had an idea of how to teach skating.

Because I hadn’t even so much as gone jogging since the twins were born I got tired fast and had to sit down every five minutes or so to catch my breath. However, this gave Caeleigh an opportunity to talk to some of the Sharks. They were amused to have actual figure skaters as ice girls, so they’d come out to watch us for a while, sometimes sitting next to me on the bench. Whenever Caeleigh came over to talk to me, I would ‘suddenly feel better again’ and head onto the ice, leaving her alone with the team.

Brandon made sure he sat next to me, and that Logan and Jason were with him, so that Caeleigh would end up near them if she tried to talk to me. At first she would get frustrated and follow me back onto the ice, but after the third or fourth time she stopped and asked Brandon to hand her a water bottle.

“These ice girls suck,” she said to him after getting a drink.

“You’re doing pretty well,” Logan said, and introduced himself.

“Thanks; I can’t believe you guys are watching us,” she laughed, but she looked like she was enjoying having an audience.

“We don’t mind not practicing,” he replied with a smirk.

This happened a few times, but eventually most of the guys left, and it was just Brandon and a few other guys.

The one guy Caeleigh talked to the most was a bit shocking to both Brandon and I. We exchanged glances after Caeleigh started getting a little more than friendly with Tomas Hertl.

“I think she’s flirting with him,” I whispered to him and he laughed.

“He’s a few years younger than her, I wonder if she knows that,” he whispered back

“I think Caeleigh’s ‘type’ is foreign hockey players; must be something about the accent, or broken English,” I whispered back to him, stealing one more glance at the two before returning to the ice.

So, I guess things are working, though I had not expected her to be interested in Tomas. When I asked her about it, she denied flirting with him.

“I mean he’s cute and all, but I don’t think he was interested in me or anything,” she replied, trying to brush it off, but I could tell she was thinking about it a lot.

“Maybe he’s going to the thing tomorrow, some pre-season dinner or something. You’re invited if you want to go too,” her face lit up and she smiled.

“A dinner? Is it formal?”

“Not really, I think it’s going to be at the beach-”

“So I can wear a bathing suit?”

“Yes, if you want to, I think there will be swimming and other beach things.” I was a little shocked at her sudden interest in wearing a bathing suit, but I guess she wanted to show off her new ‘tan.’

-

I opted to wear a one-piece, given my out-of-shapeness, though Brandon says I look fine. I wore a light beach dress over it, trying to look modest. I am a mom after all.

Caeleigh decided to wear short jean shorts and a very see-through tee shirt that showed off her red bikini top.

If she was trying to get some of the guys’ attention, it worked. She disappeared soon after we got there, leaving the twins with Brandon and I, and joined Logan and a couple of other people in a game of beach volleyball. I lost track of her for a while as I chatted with the wags about the start of the school year, the upcoming season, and other hockeymom/wife things.

I finally found Caeleigh when I retrieved a lost frisbee from behind a bush. Next to the frisbee, on a towel, Caeleigh was making out with Tomas!!!

“Oh my God, hey Emme,” she sat up and pushed him off, wiping her lip gloss of his face. “What’s up?”

I laughed, “nothing, you can keep doing, whatever that was.”

I was still laughing to myself as I walked back to Brandon.

“You will never guess who I saw Caeleigh making out with,” I whispered to him as I returned the frisbee.

“Logan? Yeah I saw them earlier.”

“What? No, Tomas,” I looked up at him confused.

“Oh, I saw Logan kiss her earlier,” Brandon whispered back.

It was quiet for a minute as we processed what was happening.

“Maybe this is her way of getting over Geno,” I suggested, though I was worried it was something worse. Was Caeleigh becoming a slut? (No!!!)

“Yeah, that’s probably it,” he replied, though I could tell he was thinking the same thing I was.

He went back to playing frisbee and I sat with the wags, not really listening to anything they said. Maybe Caeleigh wasn’t ready and we pushed her into this too soon?

I haven’t asked her about it yet. She’s feeling much better and hasn’t spontaneously cried once this week. I guess that’s progress, right?

I hope I haven’t broken her, sweet, innocent Caeleigh. : (

Sincerely,

Emme

Notes

She might.
If she were to do that, who would you suggest? I'm not that familiar with the team.
