The Diary of an Unintentional Puck Slut

March 27, 2015

March 9, 2015

Dear Diary,

I got my brace off!!! I’ve been going to swimming therapy and that’s really helping, but I still have to wear a walking brace thingy. But at least I don’t have to use crutches anymore!!!

At first it was frustrating, having to sit out the games and watch the ice girls skate, but I’ve really enjoyed watching the games with the wags. I’m completely caught up on all the gossip, and I swear, they are like the CIA or something…the secrets they know about people, it’s crazy. How do they even know all of that? I’ve never been interested in gossip, but they make it so interesting!

After a few weeks I was one of the ‘regular wags’ who came to all the games, and I started sitting up at the front of the box with the captain’s wife. She and I and Christina and Amber even get coffee sometimes. It’s weird. It’s like I’ve been accepted into a higher level of their society. Tabea and I have actually gotten really close; oddly, we bonded over being the captain’s wife/girlfriend. It all started when she brought up having to go to some event with Joe and I laughed and said I remembered doing stuff like that with Sid.

“I bet you don’t miss that,” she said with a laugh.

“Hell no! I hated just being ‘his date’ or whatever, and having to do stupid stuff like that. You’re good at it, though,” I smiled back at her, feeling a little embarrassed about talking about my ex boyfriend (aka, hockey superstar Sidney Crosby. Ugh.)

“I’ve had a few years to practice, and who knows, maybe you’ll be a captain’s wife one day,” she said, sounding a little mysterious, but before I could ask her what the hell she meant, a fight broke out in the game far below us. It was between Tommy Wingels and Erik Gudbranson, and the odds were not in Tommy’s favor. A girl from the back of the room rushed forward and pressed her face against the glass.

“Tommy!” She yelled and curled her fingers into a fist. I looked at her closely and realized she was the girl I’d seen at the Sharks’ family skate at New Years. I’d probably seen her a few times since then, but she didn’t stand out, and looked pretty much like any of the other wags. At least now I knew who she was with.

Tommy and Erik both got 2 minutes in the box for roughing, and they both appeared to be fine. The girl relaxed a little and went back to her seat, but she looked uneasy, and a little embarrassed for suddenly calling out.

“It’s okay, hun, we all feel like that when one of our guys gets in a fight, or takes a hard hit,” Melissa leaned over and rested her hand on the girl’s arm.

When the game resumed I pulled Tabea out into the hall with me to ‘get some food.’

“Who is she?” I whispered.

“Tommy’s girl,” she replied, not sounding too happy.

“And?”

“She’s the one who broke up with him at the beginning of the season. Right before Christmas she decided she wanted to get back together with him, and he for some reason said yes,” Tabea explained. “There were rumors that she needed money or something, but of course Tommy is too sweet to say no.”

“Wait, the blonde girl he and I saw in the grocery store? The one he wanted to make jealous so he kissed me?!” As I thought about it some more, I could kind of see the resemblance between those two girls, but she looked different.

“Yeah, she died her hair, or went back to her natural color or something, but she’s ‘starting over’ or whatever,” Tabea rolled her eyes. She’d seen this kind of thing before, but there’s nothing you can do. If Tommy wants to date her, that’s fine. And I really can’t judge her, considering what I’ve done.

And Caeleigh, yes, Caeleigh. Wow, she really freaked us all out. Or me and Dougie at least, I don’t think she told Freddie.

She somehow ‘forgot what day her period was supposed to start’ and ended up not being even slightly pregnant. Although I did discover that she is not on the pill. What!??! You don’t sleep with your boyfriend’s brother and not take the pill!!!
So I advised her to:
A)GET ON THE F-ING PILL
B)STOP SLEEPING WITH DOUGIE (‘but Emme, he’s cute!!’)

I don’t care if he’s cute. Freddie’s cute, why don’t you just sleep with him?
Or, why don’t you break up with Freddie and date Dougie? Eh?

That one caught her. She didn’t have a comeback besides “But Emme!”

I think she hadn’t even considered that, and unfortunately, I might have just put that thought in her head.

But she’s gone now, and Freddy’s here. TK’s knee was a little worse than the doctor’s thought at first, so Freddy might be here for a little longer.

Ugh. Okay, enough venting for now. I have gown-up things to do, like making dinner, and feeding my children.

Sincerely,

Emme

Dear Diary,

I have resurrected Operation Find Tomas a Girlfriend. He’s just too cute to be single.

Since I failed miserably last time, I decided to bring the wags into it this time around. And now I feel bad for Tomas; I might have gotten him into something he doesn’t want (oops).

According to the wags, the story is that he has a girl that he likes, but he’s too afraid to take it any further.

“Why? Is she too young or something?” I asked and leaned forward in my seat in anticipation.

Christina (who was recapping the story for me) glanced at Tabea before continuing. Tabea raised her eyebrows like (whatever, tell her) and she sighed.

“No, she’s 18, or 19?” Christina looked back at Tabea.

“She just turned 19,” Tabea said curtly and returned to looking at the floor, lips firmly pressed together.

“Anyway, Natalie is 19, and she’s a college student in LA, and Tomas is interested in her, and I think she likes him too, but….she’s Joe’s niece,” Christina practically whispered the last half of that, while avoiding eye contact with Tabea.

“Oh.” I said, instantly understanding why that was a problem.

“They met at the family skate on New Years; she was up visiting Uncle Joe and ended up getting a lot more attention than he thought she would,” Tabea finally spoke up. “Although Tomas is harmless, and probably one of the nicest guys I know, Joe doesn’t want her dating a hockey player.”

“So he’s stopping Tomas from seeing her? Or he told Natalie she couldn’t date any of his players?” I asked, suddenly trying to find a loophole in this situation.

“Joe told Tomas (and Logan, and Jason, and any other single guy) to ‘keep their hands off of her’ after he saw how Logan interacted with her at the family skate. Of course, Joe blames himself for even bringing her, because in his mind she’s still the adorable little six year old girl he used to babysit,” Tabea sighed and absently inspected her manicure. I could tell this was something she and Joe had probably fought over, and I didn’t want to make it worse, so I changed the subject.

But I couldn’t stop thinking about it. From what I remembered, she was very pretty and looked like a nice girl, although every time I saw her she’d had Logan’s arm around her. So maybe Joe just doesn’t want Logan to date her? I could see why he wouldn’t want that….but Tomas? He’s the cutest most adorable teddy bear-like hockey player I’ve ever met!

So I found some excuse to talk to him alone and I asked him about Natalie. He blushed (I knew he would, and it was so cute) but he denied it at first.

“It’s okay, I talked to Tabea and she told me everything,” I said. “Have you and Natalie talked at all since then?”

“We texted for a while, but Joe said he didn’t want any of use to talk to her, so I stopped texting her,” he sounded like a child explaining why he’d gotten in trouble, and it was so cute.

“I think he just meant Logan, because who wouldn’t want to keep Logan away from their niece?” I joked, and he smiled a little.

“I don’t know, but I don’t want to cause any problems,” he said shyly and looked a tiny bit sad, (just enough to make my heart melt.)

“Well do you like her? Is she worth any ‘problems’ it might cause?” I wasn’t giving up on this.

“I don’t know, maybe, I guess,” he looked around to see if Joe was within listening distance, and I knew he was trying to say that he really liked her.

“Just text her, or call her. Invite her up here for spring break!!! It should be in a week or so,” I was so excited at the prospect of him inviting her up here for her spring break that hugged him.

“I guess I could, I haven’t talked to her in a few weeks though,” he peeled himself out of my hug and looked down at me.

“Just talk to her, and then invite her up. She doesn’t even have to stay with you, she could stay with her uncle, or whatever,” I looked at him sternly, so he knew he had to do it, before turning around and hobbling away (stupid knee brace).

So, one week later, Natalie Thornton showed up at a game, without telling Joe or anyone else. Tomas knew, of course, since he’d invited her, but Tabea freaked out when she saw her down in the stands. She turned to look at me, instantly knowing I had something to do with this, and I knew I’d been kicked out of the wag’s inner circle. But it was totally worth it.

I met up with Brandon after the game and as we were driving home I asked if Joe looked upset.

“We lost, so yeah, he was upset. Why?” He answered without taking his eyes off the road. He got like this when they lost a game, and I didn’t take it personally.

“Was Tomas a little nervous, or excited, or something?” I watched his face as I asked, and he looked more and more confused, and less angry.

“I...um I don’t know, he might have been, why?” This time he glanced at me. I told him everything about Natalie and Tomas and Joe, and by the time we got home I’d explained everything, and he looked a little overwhelmed.

“So you’re trying to set Tomas up with Natalie, even though Joe doesn’t want it?” He asked as we walked into the house.

“He doesn’t know what’s best for his niece,” I replied.

“And you do?” Brandon replied, sounding a bit snippety again.

“I just want him to be happy,” I said.

“Maybe you should leave that up to Tomas. I’m pretty sure he can find his own girlfriend,” Brandon said before stalking off to the kitchen to find something to eat. As I walked up to the nursery, I tried to think over everything. Maybe I should have stayed out of it?

But of course, the next day at breakfast Brandon apologized for being a jerk and said it was nice that I was taking an interest in his teammates.

“As long as you’re not too interested in them,” he joked, and I rolled my eyes. “But really, I like that you’re trying to fit in and make friends, because we’re going to be here for a while.”

“Really?!?” I jumped up and ran around the table to give him a hug. “So does this mean your contract is over its trial period?”

“Yup, I’ll be here for at least five more years, and,” he pulled out his phone to show me a picture. “I get to wear the ‘A’ on my jersey starting next game.”

“Seriously? Brandon I’m so happy,” I wrapped my arms around his neck and hugged him tightly. Seeing the picture of his jersey with an ‘A’ on it again made me so proud…and for some reason, horny. “That’s kind of hot.”

He looked me in the eye for a few seconds. “I was hoping you would say that, because this definitely calls for celebration.”

And then he carried me upstairs. And we celebrated.

Sincerely,

Emme

P.S.: This means I need to get a new jersey to wear to the games!!

She might.
If she were to do that, who would you suggest? I'm not that familiar with the team.
